SER
• used to tell who you are OR what you are like

Soy rubia, simpática y baja pero muy interesante.

Adjectives
…are used to describe nouns.…must match the nouns they describe.
1) Many adjectives end in –orojo feo alto artístico mucho
These adjectives will have 4 forms-o -a -os -as rojo, roja, rojos, rojas
2) Some adjectives end in –egrande inteligente interesante
These types of adjectives will have only 2 forms;
Singular and Plural
examples:
grande/ grandes inteligente/ inteligentes joven/ jóvenes
(To make plural, add –S TO VOWELS -ES TO CONSONANTS)
3) Some adjectives end in -ador
hablador trabajador matador pescador
They can have a feminine form -adora
habladora , trabajadora, matadora, pescadora
Emotions and Feelings
• Use forms of ESTAR:Estoy EstamosEstásEstá Están
Examples
Mi mamá está cansada ahora porque no durmió bien anoche.
Carlos y yo estamos enfermos hoy y no vamos a la escuela.
Estoy triste y enojada porque saqué “F” en la prueba.
Tener Expressions

Sentirse = to feel

Gustar
• used to tell what people like.
How it works:
• Use GUSTA if people like ONE THING• Use GUSTAN if people like MORE THAN ONE THING
Then, to tell WHO IS DOING THE LIKING USE me nos te le les
Examples
• Me gusta la música.• Me gustan los deportes.• Nos gusta el concierto.• Nos gustan los partidos.
With specific names
• With specific names or specific people…Use “A and then the name”
A Marco le gusta tocar el piano.
A mis amigos les gusta la pizza.
A Pablo y a mí nos gustan los deportes.
A los estudiantes no les gusta tomar los exámenes.
IR (to go)
• To say where people are going use a form of IR + a
VOY VAMOSVASVA VAN

Verbs
• Verbs? They show WHO is doing something and WHEN.
• The main form (infinitive) ends in either -ar -er -ir and each one of the above have their own set of endings!

WE NEVER CHANGE!

Ser vs. Estar (to be)

• Somos altos, rubios, y fuertes.

• Hoy es martes.
Estar
• Used with feelings, emotions• and locations of people OR things
Notice! The forms of ESTAR will reflect things ofa more CHANGEABLE nature.
Examples:
• Yo estoy muy triste y deprimida hoy.
• Nuestra mamá está cansada porque no durmió bien.
• Mis padres están furiosos ahora.
• Mi libro está en mi lóquer.
• Tu abuela está en el hospital. ¡Qué triste!
