Recently, in English, you have looked at atmospheric writing and the importance of setting and character in stories. You looked at how what a character says and does adds to the atmosphere of a story.
This week we are going to look at a short story and story plot.

Your work this week will include the following activities: (You do not need to print any resources. All you will need is an exercise book, lined or plain paper to complete tasks.)
• Briefly think back to short stories that we read in September.• Make a prediction from a front cover.• Read a new short story called ‘Umbrella Man’ by Roald Dahl.• Complete activities based on this short story.• Consider how the story has been put together using a Plot Mountain Graph

• Roald Dahl is known for clever, unsettling and highly entertaining short stories. Many have a surprise ending and his stories are engaging from beginning to end.
• In September we read ‘The Landlady’ and ‘Lamb to the Slaughter’. Both were brilliant short stories with an unexpected twist at the end! I hope that you can remember the plots! This week, we are going to read ‘Umbrella Man’.
