Prepositional Phrases

A prepositional phrase is a group of words that begin with a preposition.

Where are prepositional phrases found?

Prepositional phrases can be found at the beginning, the middle, or at the end of a sentence.

After the party finished we went home.Mike went to the mountains yesterday afternoon.The children swam in the water.

What do prepositional phrases do?

They expand sentences by adding details and examples. They answer questions such as where, what kind, which one, when, and how.

The Iroquois raised crops. What kind of crops were they?The Iroquois raised crops of corn and other vegetables.
