I love to learn about many things, but I especially like Math and Social Studies. Spencerport is great, because my teachers are super fun and energetic. They take time to make sure we understand why an answer makes sense, so it makes the classwork easier.

Artist
Art is my favorite. I painted a canvas using pastels, and made a tree, roses, rainbow and sky. It was in the talent show. My teachers sometimes make our work tricky, but I like it. It’s like a puzzle, but I’m usually able to figure it out.
FilmI love to learn about different forms of art, and expressing messages through art. I love anything to do with art, whether it’s drawing, painting, graphic design or cementing.
Spencerport teachers go out of their way to support us and really connect us to school through our interests. I enjoy English especially, because we really go deeper into the messages and their meanings. Our teachers really encourage and motivate us, and that gives us more confidence as students.
Fairy tales are my favorite books to read, but I like a lot of books. Reading is the best part of school. My teacher works hard and always helps me. She’s smart too.
Someday I want to be a teacher, like my mom. I might be a mom, but I really want to be a teacher.

• Specificlanguagedefiningtreatment,searchor confiscation of student cell phones (page 37);

Spencerport does not carry this type of insurance, or insurance covering the theft of student belongings. The replacement of lost or stolen items is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
Attendance PolicyStudents must bring a note from a parent or person in parental relationship for all tardiness, absences or early dismissals.
Students in K-8 are not permitted to leave the school building during the day until a parent signs their child out of school with the attendance clerk. Students in grades 9-12 must sign out with the attendance clerk prior to leaving the school. Students who need to be excused during the day must bring a note from their parent or person in parental relationship and present the excuse to the attendance clerk or homeroom teacher. Seniors may earn the parental exit privilege (PEP).

The New York State’s Dignity for All Students Act (DASA) seeks to provide the state’s public elementary and secondary school students with a safe and supportive environment free from discrimination, intimidation, taunting, harassment, and bullying on school property, a school bus and/or at a school function.
The goals of DASA include:
• promotelearningandpositivestudent conduct, and
• preventandeliminateallformsofbullyingandother harmful and disruptive behavior that can impede the learning process.
DASA requires annual staff training; provides steps for incident reports; and includes classroom instruction on awareness to harassment/bullying/cyberbullying.
Bullying is defined as purposeful, aggressive, negative, repeated, and unwelcomed harassment and/or attacks on others where there is an imbalance of power and can include behaviors such as physical violence, verbal taunts, name-calling and put-downs, or threats and intimidation. This also includes cyber-bullying (bullying using electronic means).
Please note the form is to report alleged bullying, not conflict.

New York State Education law requires completed physical examinations upon entering kindergarten, grades 2,4,7 and 10, as well as for new entrants to school.
The recommendation is that your physician conducts these examinations, or, with a signed “Health Appraisal Informed Consent” form (available from School Nurse), the district can conduct the exam. This is also a good time to have a full dental examination completed and submitted to the school nurse with your health appraisal.
Your physician must complete, date and sign the “Health Appraisal” form. This form can be downloaded from the district website at http://www.spencerportschools.org (click district, click forms/publications). It is also available in each school’s health office.
Medicine may be dispensed in school under strict guidelines established by New York State:
1. A physician must prescribe ALL medication taken in school, including over-the-counter drugs (pain medication, cough syrups, lozenges, creams, etc., and antacids such as Tums).
2. The school nurse MUST have on file a written order from the student’s physician and a written request from the parent to administer the medication.
3. All medication must be provided in its original container, including over-the-counter drugs.
4. NO medication of any kind is to be brought to school by a child. It must be delivered directly to the school nurse by a parent – not transported on the bus by the student.
For more information about Monroe County’s immunization clinics, please call the Monroe County Health Department at 753-5150.
For information about health appraisals and recertifications for athletic participation, please call the nurses at the high school
(349-5252) or the middle school(349-5351).
Immunization requirements:
1. DTaP/DTP/Tdap: (Diphtheria and Tetanus toxoid- containing vaccine and Pertussis vaccine): 4 to 5 doses.
2. Tdap: (Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoid containing vaccine and Pertussis vaccine booster): *Required only for students enrolling in grades 6th-12th who have not previously received a Tdap at 7 years of age or older.
3. IPV/OPV (Polio vaccine): 3 to 5 doses4. MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine): 1 dose for Pre-kindergarten/
kindergarten and 2 doses by age 7.5. HIB (Haemophilus influenza type B vaccine): 1 to 4 doses for pre-kindergarten6. Hep B (Hepatitis B vaccine): 3 doses7. Varicella (Chicken Pox vaccine): 1 to 2 doses depending on child’s age
*These are revised NYS recommendations which vary by the age of the child.
Please consult with your child’s physician for immunization schedule for school entrance. For further information please see: www.health.ny.gov/immunization In the case of a communicable disease the district recommends:
1. If there is a suspicion of a communicable disease such as chicken pox, impetigo, conjunctivitis (pink eye), streptococcal infections such as strep throat, or pediculosis (head lice), consult your physician for diagnosis and treatment.
2. Call the nurse’s office in the school to report the disease and ask about the readmission policy
3. In some instances, for readmission to school, the parent must accompany the child for examination and approval by the health services personnel.

Pesticide notification program and Asbestos ActThe Spencerport School District follows an Integrated Pesticide Management approach for our buildings and grounds. As part of this approach, pesticide applications for rodents, insects, and weeds are only applied if all other environmentally friendly methods have failed, and pest population pose a serious threat to the health and safety of our facilities. Licensed professionals are engaged to make all pesticide applications. No pesticides are routinely applied without an assessment of potential harm.
The following pesticide applications are not subject to prior notification requirements:

Effective July 1, 2001, New York State Education Law Section 409-H required all public elementary and secondary schools to provide written notification regarding the periodic application of pesticides, as well
as before an emergency application, throughout the school year, to all persons in parental relation, as well as faculty and staff. This notification is done through a “notification list”.
The district updates this list annually. Should an emergency application become necessary the district makes every effort to communicate this 48-hours prior to application. If you would like to be on the notification list, please download the Pesticide Notification Request Form from the district website, complete the form and return it to: Facilities Department, Pesticide Representative, Spencerport Central School District, 1 Bernabi Road, Spencerport, NY 14559. Alternately you may call the Facilities Office, (585)349-5195 to have a form sent to you. Your name will remain on the notification list for one year. For further information on these requirements, please contact Director of Facilities, Pesticide Representative, Spencerport Central School District, 1 Bernabi Road, Spencerport, NY 14559; telephone/; 349-5194; e-mail: [email protected]; or FAX 349-5019.
Facilities Asbestos Report (AHERA)
The Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) is a federal law enacted in 1987 requiring all school districts to re-inspect all facilities for asbestos-containing building materials.
A detailed districtwide Management Plan was developed and approved by our Board of Education after a thorough inspection of our entire facilities by Peach Laboratories, Pa. in 1988.
The AHERA Plan, which is available for public inspection at the District office, outlines appropriate response actions to ensure a continuously safe environment.
