Hardrocker Flying ClubHFC is an organization made up of Tech students, alumni, faculty & staff, and community members. The HFC welcomes zero time pilots as well as experienced pilots.

Student Membership: Students of SDSMT

Student Membership Flying Status: Students of SDSMT who use the Hardrocker Airplane

Regular Membership: Alumni, Faculty & Staff of SDSMT and their immediate families

Associate Membership: Persons not fitting into the other classes of membership

Aircraft Rates:   $60/hr dry [***special ***now $35/hr dry until $7000 is expended]

Key Deposit:     $55 (refundable when keys are returned)

Requirements – on the ground Third Class Medical Certificate

Required for your first solo Valid for 3 years

70% or better on written exam All questions are published, answers are provided Multiple choice format.

Requirements – in the air At least 40 hours of flight time (40-70 average)

instructor required until solo flight (~10-20 hours)

3 hours cross country One flight over 100nm start to finish

3 hours night 3 hours instrument

10 hours solo minimum 5 hours cross country

One flight over 150nm with three landings
