Energy is central to nearly every major challenge and opportunity the world faces today Few forces will have a profound impact on businesses and economies as the global dynamics of energy, natural resources, de-velopment, and environment. The great energy challenge of our time is to meet the demands of a growing world economy. As the world’s population surge to 9 billion by 2030, the struggle to produce 50% more food and energy and 30% more fresh water, whilst reducing greenhouse gas emissions, becomes more intense. No less urgent is the need to bring modern energy services to the 1.3 billion people who still lack access to electricity today. In response to these challenges, world leaders are taking action. Governments around the world are pledging their commit-ments to improve energy efficiency, deliver energy access and drive clean energy deployment. Transforming our energy system demands a new level of collaboration and a synchronized set of actions in the technical, economic, social, and political realms. At the centre of this transformation is the World Future Energy Summit, an annual meeting place of more than 30,000 policy-makers and business leaders from 170 countries - in the pursuit of a secure, safe and reliable source of energy to power world economic growth. Hosted by Masdar and the centrepiece of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, World Future Energy Summit cultivates a much-needed dialogue between critical stakeholders, from Heads of States, Governments, Academia and the Business and Financial communi-ties.

World Future Energy Summit International Water Summit

Water is crucial for all life on earth. The natural resource plays an essential role in our economy and industrial growth, health, food production and environment. Global consumption of water doubles every 20 years, more than twice the rate of population growth. Water is a finite resource and in order for arid regions to keep pace with industrial growth and ensure water security and future water sustainability, the challenges must be addressed. On January 18, 2012, His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, launched the International Water Summit as part of a far reaching sustainability vision aimed at ensuring the prosperity and welfare of mankind – not only in the United Arab Emirates, but across the world. His statement, “water is more important than oil for the UAE” was a bold and clear signal that an economy based on oil is placing water at the top of its agenda. The International Water Summit and Exhibition is a major global platform for promoting water sustainability in arid regions. As a natural extension of the UAE’s commitment to sustainability, International Water Summit is be co-located with the World Future Energy Summit “WFES”, bringing the nexus to life between mankind’s two most vital resources: water and energy.
