Executive  Summary    Introduction

The  LEAD  program,  as  part  of  the  Leadership  for  Education  and  Development  Program

and  Middle  East  Partnership  Initiative  Tomorrow's  Leaders  at  the  American  University  in

Cairo   (AUC),   conducted   a   survey   with   LEAD   students   to   obtain   feedback   about   LEAD

coordinators  as  well  as  the  program’s  mission  and  objectives.  This  survey  was  conducted

in  cooperation  with  the  Office  of  Data  Analytics  and  Institutional  Research  (DAIR)  as  an

online   survey.   The   LEAD   office   intends   to   use   the   survey   findings   to   improve   their

program.

On  December  19,  2013  the  Office  of  Data  Analytics  and  Institutional  Research  (DAIR),

emailed  survey  invitations  to  182  LEAD  students.  Two  survey  email  reminders  were  sent

on  January  2  and  12,  2014  and  the  survey  remained  accessible  until  end  of  January  20,

2014.  When  the  survey  was  closed,  40  students  were  completed  the  survey  (22%).

Methodology  and  Organization  of  the  Report

It  should  be  noted,  as  a  technical  comment,  that  we  removed  missing  responses  from

the  analysis  section  and  analyzed  the  entire  survey  without  missing  data.

This  report  is  divided  into  five  sections.  In  Section  I,  demographics’  information  is

presented  as  frequencies  and  as  charts.  Section  II,  includes  the  students’  evaluations  for

the  coordinators  as  frequencies  and  as  charts.  Furthermore,  the  student’s  life  values  are

presented  in  Section  III,  as  frequencies  and  as  charts.  In  Section  IV,  the  cross  tabulations

questions  are  presented  in  frequency  tables.  In  Section  V,  the  respondents’  comments

and  suggestions  for  more  improvement  are  presented.

Section  V:  General  comments    Suggestions  for  improvement:

§ The  number  of  students  who  travel  abroad  should  be  bigger  § i  need  a  coordinator  that  is  not  very  busy  § I  think  the  scholarship  should  try  to  allow  a  semester  abroad  to  the  students,  as

it  will  help  them  a  lot  when  they  are  exposed  to  a  completely  different  culture.  § More  individual  and  general  meetings.  § "I  know  that  this  might  be  impossible,  but  let  Iman  run  her  show  both  on  stage

and  backstage  levels.  The  tools  given  to  her  by  the  office  are  completely  blocking  her  way  of  doing  things.  I  don't  think  there  is  anything  unfair  about  a  coordinator  tailoring  her  tools  to  the  cohort.  I  actually  think  it’s  unfair  to  generalist  tools.  Every  group  of  people  have  its  needs  that  needs  to  be  addressed  the  way  she  sees  best.    The  generalization  of  assessment  tools  came  because  of  trust  issues  at  the  time.  She  is  way  beyond  such  a  thing  and  the  learning  process  now  is  way  beyond  fairness  of  grading.  Other  than  that  I  repeat,  she  is  awesome!"

§ She  may  try  to  meet  us  more,  talk  to  us,  encourage  us  because  throughout  the  semester,  one  gets  really  pressured  and  needs  someone  to  support.  Also,  it  is  important  to  meet  not  to  forget  about  the  activity  thing  and  the  extracurricular  work.

§ Common  activities  and  outings.    Other  comments:

§ My  coordinator  is  very  supportive  and  helpful.  The  more  time  I  spend  at  AUC  and  with  LEAD  office,  I  understand  what  it  means  to  be  a  'student  life  coordinator'  I  am  very  satisfied  in  the  program  and  glad  to  be  part  of  it.

§ We  will  miss  her  :D  § In  general,  every  thing  is  good,  although  we  need  to  move  freely  using  AUC

buses.  We  don't  have  bus  pass.  § "Encourage  Iman's  spirit  to  spread  over  in  the  office.  Bring  more  people  like  her

to  the  team.  She  is  very  dynamic  and  has  a  very  high  potential  in  improving  the  stagnancy  in  the  staff.  I  never  thought  I'd  want  someone  to  replace  XXX,  but  now  I  wish  we  had  Iman  earlier  on.    We  are  a  lucky  cohort.  Make  sure  other  cohorts  have  similar  experience."

§ Hoda  is  best  coordinator,  I  will  miss  her.  I  wish  that  stay  for  us  forever  :D
