The Municipal Housing Bureau (MHB) of Rawdon invites the munici-pality’s socio-economic groups to make recommendations of people interested in joining its board of directors.
From the recommendations received, a list of candidates will be esta-blished and submitted to the Quebec Housing Corporation who, in turn, will forward these recommendations to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Regions for appointment.
Please provide the curriculum vitae of the candidate(s) to the Municipal Housing Bureau of Rawdon before March 31st 2014.
The new municipal council’s budget was adop-ted on January 28th 2014 in the amount of $14,325,808, an increase of 2.7% over last year. However, if we exclude the impact of the use of part of the surplus for two years, the 2014 budget totals $14,981,625.00 represen-ting a real decline of 4.6% compared to 2013. This budget is very responsible and over the next few months, the council will study the details of the numerous files.
Nonetheless, the Municipality of Rawdon is obliged to announce a municipal tax increase of $0.06 for every $100 of municipal evaluation. The use of surplus is necessary because, without it, the tax increase would be even more severe.
We had to resign ourselves to draw over $650,000 from the surplus in order to ease the situation on Rawdon’s taxpayers. Without this injection of funds, the applied raise would be $0.13 for every $100 of municipal evaluation in order to balance the budget.
For example, the tax account for a property assessed at $158,620 will be raised by $72.22. However, it is important to note that the garbage collection and recycling service fee has been reduced by $22 thanks to citizen participation in the reduction of waste material.
In closing, I suggest that you consult the following table to better understand your tax account.

The Municipality of Rawdon wishes to hear your views regarding boating safety on Pontbriand Lake. In your opinion, are all of the water sports (recreational boating, fishing, Sea-Doos, wake boarding, surfing, water skiing, kayaking, swimming, diving, etc.) practised respectfully and safely on the lake? What safety issues do you deal with when you navigate on the lake? What are the causes? What solutions would improve the situation?
Therefore, we invite you to attend discus-sion workshops related to boating safety on Pontbriand Lake.
Several workshops will take place: March 6th and 18th 2014 as well as April 3rd and 15th 2014. So that everyone can give their opinion, each workshop will gather together groups of 8 people who may have different views and interests with regards to this issue, such as residents who use the lake, lakes-hore property owners, environmental or rec-reational associations etc.
To register, please contact Marie-Pierre Thibeault, Environmental Officer at 450 834-2596, ext. 7136
Apart from the discussion workshops, you can express your opinion in the following ways:
* by phone at 450 834-2596, ext. 7136 or by e-mail at [email protected]
* by letter that you can drop off at the Town Hall reception desk
These consultations are the first step of a process that could lead to the adoption of a navigation restriction by-law (ex: speed limit regulation or usage restriction). The Municipality thanks you for your participation in these consultations which will guide future decisions regarding navigation on Pontbriand Lake.

The Kildare Facility Makeover
The Municipality of Rawdon is proud to announce the com-missioning of the new Kildare Drinking Water Treatment Facility as of January 28th.
The facility has been brought up to standard with the construction of a new building, the addition of a green sand filtration system, the replacement of the distribution pumps and the addition of a well and of a generator. This filtration technology is necessary to treat iron and manganese. At present, this station services 118 households.
This project was made possible by a grant of $600,000 from the excise tax program (TCEQ).

During the winter season, driving involves many risks of collisions and breakdowns; make sure you drive a vehicle that is in roadworthy condition. Snow must be removed from ALL window surfaces; the roof, the hood and the vehicle’s headlights. Even if you’re dri-ving a short distance, a partially cleaned windshield is not enough. You will improve visibility for yourself and for those following you.
Once on the road, you must be aware of the uncer-tain and misleading road conditions. There is no bra-king or skid resistance on snowy or icy pavement.
To minimize the risks of collision, it is necessary to keep a safe and reasonable distance from the vehicle in front of you.
Drive carefully and have a great winter!
In collaboration of the Ministère de la Sécurité publique, your Department of Fire Safety invites you to take advantage of the time change on Sunday March 9th to check your smoke detector and if needed, replace the battery. Keep in mind that a working smoke detector can save lives.
To check your smoke detector, press the test button for a few seconds until a signal is emitted. A detector that is in good working order emits a signal immediately after you press the test button.
Also, make sure to test its ability to detect smoke. For example, put out a candle next to the detector. If your device is connected to a central, make sure to check with the company if they received a signal.
Important points:* If your detector emits intermittent signals, the battery is low and needs to be changed. Never use a rechargeable battery.
* Install one smoke detector per floor, including the basement and ideally in every bedroom. Make sure nothing obstructs the smoke circulation.
* Replace your smoke detector every 10 years or earlier if it’s damaged or defective. Rely on the date indicated on the box. If there’s no date, don’t take any risks and replace it.
* If you’re a tenant, your landlord has an obligation to provide you with a smoke detector. We recommend that you check that it is operational and change the battery when needed.
For more information on smoke detectors and fire prevention, contact your municipal Department of Fire Safety or visit the web site www.securitepublique.gouv.qc.ca.
