SurfacePortrait grade 18”x 20”or 20” x 24” canvas or 24”x 36”

Transfer InformationTransfer the design to the surface with gray graphite. Check that the panel lines are parallel to the side of the canvas. You mayunderpaint the gray panel section and brown floor section with acrylic or oil of your choice.

Mixing FormulasFormulae for mixing is given throughout this lesson. You willfind that the mixes for the hue are given first. This is followedby a colour that will raise or lower the value. Once the value andcolour are mixed, the next addition usually is meant to eitherbrighten or dull the colour. Finally, a colour may need to bemixed into the pile that will adjust the temperature.

Base the gray area of the background with TW + UB + Blk.Panels added when dry.

Flesh SectionsStrengthen dark sections with BU + R. Add a dry brush of WW in light areas. Add a glaze of R as a blush tone betweenmedium and dark values.

Chair DetailWith thinned RS + Y, place in all yellow sections.Outline with thinned BU. With drapery medium blue,add all blue. Outline with thinned Blk. Blot entiredesign to mute. Add pink roses with dark value fromdress. Add light with WW. Add green leaves with leafbasecoat value/color.

Fringe on draperyBase the fringe with blue drape medium value. AddBlack where the fringe meets the yellow section. AddWW to create the individual strands.

Panels and Shadow WorkReferencing cover photo, add thinned Blk to create wall panels. Adda dry brush of WW or Light Gray to create raised sections.

Create a shadow from the drapery and chair onto thewall. Use thinned Blk to create overall shadow.Reinforce with Blk. If necessary, Reinfroce any darkareas with glaze of Blk.

Varnish with Gloss Varnish, frame, display - enjoy!
