“There is somethingrelaxing and romantic aboutbeing close to water,” saysLinda Travella from theItalian property specialist.

Linda, who has been sellingproperty in Italy for 24 years,adds: “On Maggiore you canfind wonderful period villason the shores of the lake.Stresa/Baveno and Belgirateare the most sought-afterareas and have delightfulviews of the Borromeo Island.

“The views are spectacularbut one of the main draws ofMaggiore is its closeness toMilan and the various airportoptions it offers, which arebetween 45 and 75 minutesaway.”

Lake Maggiore is alsoideally placed for golf, skiingand water sports, as well asbeing close to San Siro forfootball and Monza for motorracing.

Properties in LakeMaggiore start from as littleas 170,000 euros for a twobedroom apartment, but CasaTravella concentrates on

properties at the higher-end ofthe scale.

Linda adds: “A luxury, threebedroom penthouse with lakeview and shared pool, forexample, will cost from 700,000

euros. While a lake-sideapartment with fourbedrooms, boat mooring,winter boat storage and acovered lake-side terrace withseating for about 16 people

will cost around 775,000 euros.And, if you want a palatialvilla, then prices are from onemillion upwards.”

In glamorous Lake Como,where George Clooney is said

to have a lakeside villa, pricesstart from as low as 120,000euros on the North Westernshore, while those looking forlakeside luxury can expect topay upwards of 700,000 euros

for a property.Linda adds: “Trying to find

a property right on the lakeattracts a premium price.Building new properties onthe lake isn’t allowed and anychanges to current designshave very strict criteria.”
