Odysseus Elytis

Odysseus Alepoudellis was his real name!!!

Literary member of the 30s generation!

A major exponent of romantic modernism in Greece and the whole world!

In 1979 he won the Nobel Prize for Literature!

One of his most important creations was the poetry collection “Axion Esti” (1959), which was set to music by Mikis Theodorakis.

Eagle-shaped its high mountainsLines of vines on the volcanoes’ flanksAnd the houses more whiteIn the neighboring of the azure.

What if it meets Asia on one sideAnd touches Europe a little bit,In the air it stands

And in the sea by itself!

Holding thunder into my embittered handsI return them way back in time’s sandsI’m calling my old friendsWith blood and threats.
