LCMS DISASTER RESPONSE OHIO DISTRICT WEST VIRGINIA FLOODING 2016 Project # 340441 October 2016 On June 30, 2016 an unprecedented storm dumped 10 inches of rain on West Virginia, causing 3 rivers to flood and flash flooding in the mountains. Over 7,500 homes are destroyed and thousands of others with major and minor damage, 23 people confirmed dead, including a 4-year old boy and his 8-year old brother who was swept away in flash flooding. 44 counties are declared by the state government and FEMA, with 12 counties FEMA declared. Ohio District Disaster Response Appalachia responded! From July 3 to September 18, the Ohio District Disaster Response delivered 8 truckloads of flood buckets, health kits, bottled water and other supplies to impacted areas and Christ Our Savior of the Valley Lutheran Church Alderson WV staged our teams and material donations. Additionally, 2 semi truckloads of new LazyBoy furniture was delivered to Alderson and 2 HARP box trucks of building supplies were delivered to Alderson; flooring, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, and many other items. Two (2) truckloads of bottled water, flood buckets, health kits, and other supplies were delivered to Redeemer Charleston who reached out to the community of Clendenin. Our Redeemer Huntington collected material goods which were delivered to Redeemer and Christ Our Savior of the Valley. St. Paul Parkersburg sent volunteers to assist the local congregations in the distribution of the bottled water. Trinity Zanesville also sent volunteers and flood buckets; they filled a semi! LCMS Disaster Response provided a grant of $4,000 to meet the early response needs of our congregational families impacted. Six (6) deliveries in the first 7 days cost $2,790 and the first semi load of furniture for those living in temporary housing cost $1,800 for a total of $4,590 expended. Over 3,000 families benefitted from our outreach and support to the communities of Alderson, Clendenin, and Clay County. A big Thank you to Rev. LCMS DISASTER RESPONSE OHIO DISTRICT WEST VIRGINIA FLOODING 2016

On June 30, 2016 an unprecedented storm dumped 10 inches of rain on West Virginia, causing 3 rivers to flood and flash flooding in the mountains.
