    Objective(s): By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:i. say the phoneme /e/ correctly with action;ii. identify words with the phoneme /e/ in a

    story by doing actions; andiii. match words to words said aloud.

    Time: 30/60 minutes

    Teaching Aid(s): Power point presentation, book, word cards

    Cross Curricular Element(s): Constructivism

    Introduction:

    a. Greet pupilsb. Pupils reply.

    Set Induction:

    a. Show the picture of a book cover. (Appendix 1)b. Read aloud the title of the story (Elly the

    Elephant) a few times.c. Stress on the /e/ sound.d. Introduce the action for the phoneme /e/.e. Walk like an elephant and say eh.f. Get pupils to do the action say /e/ and write e

    in the air.g. Point to the letter e in Elly and elephant and

    stress on the /e/ sound.h. Get pupils to trace the letter e in the air.i. Demonstrate how to sound it out: Your mouth is open a little and your teeth are apart. It looks like you are smiling.

    j. Get pupils to say /e/ is for e.

    Step 1:

    a. Tell pupils the story of Elly the Elephant.(Appendix 2)

    b. Point to pictures while telling the story.c. Get pupils to say the words.

    Ask pupils to observeyou. Do it a few times

    to different groups.

    a. Ask pupils to recall words with the phoneme /e/.b. Prompt with pictures if necessary.c. Write the words on the board.d. Read the words and get pupils to repeat. Stress on the phoneme /e/.

    Objective(s): By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:i. articulate the phoneme /e/;ii. blend phonemes into words; and

    iii. segment words to spell.

    Introduction:

    a. Greet pupils.b. Pupils reply.

    Set Induction:

    a. Write the letter e on the board.b. Get pupils to do the action for the phoneme /e/.c. Ask them to say /e/.

    Step 1:

    a. Get pupils to recall the story, Elly the Elephant.b. Tell the story and show the pictures. (Appendix 2)c. Say the words. Pupils listen. (Appendix 3)d. Pupils say the words.e. Get pupils to do the action for the phoneme

    Step 2:

    a. Put up a chart. (Appendix 4)

    b. Paste the letters d, e and n as in picture.

    c. Slide your hand under each letter while pronouncing each sound.d. Repeat step c a few times.e. Say the phonemes faster until they blend into a word.f. Get the pupils to say the whole word.g. Write the word at the bottom of the slide.h. Repeat steps c-f with other words.

    Step 3:

    a. Put up a word card.b. Say the word. Example: tenc. Then sound out the phonemes /t/, /e/, /n/.d. Tell pupils there are three sounds: /t/, /e/, /n/.

    e. Get pupils to say the word.f. Give each pupil a set of letter cards. (Appendix 5)g. Put up the next word card.h. Repeat steps a e with other words.
