The documentation can take the form of interviews with people, photo and video clipping of the state of the lake now coupled with any footage of the past state of the lake. The film should investigate the story of how the lake originally was, and the circumstances that resulted in the lake vanishing and the current state of the lake. LAYOUT TALK

When there is fire, cut down the electricity, cut off the oxygen, call the fire brigade, shout 'Emergency Please.' for others in the building to know. The watchwords are do not panic, please assemble in the ground, do not rush, do not run, walk briskly, use the staircase. Be confident, but not overconfident and do not try to do things that are not in your hands. You have just three minutes to evacuate the building.

Besides helping yourselves you have ample time to help other men, women, pregnant women, o ld peop le and handicapped, provided you have undergone good training. Presently, fire safety and emergency programs are only voluntary and so not all companies or buildings show interest in training their employees.

As far as fire safety knowledge is concerned, untrained people are hazardous to others. On the other side, though people are highly educated they are not serious about fire safety. Mishaps do not happen everywhere and so the importance given to learning about safety norms are lacking. Educating oneself about how to react when there is fire in the building is essential. One should know what should be done? What not to be done? All that is necessary is interest and initiative.

Carlton towers is not the only building that is poorly maintained. Thousands of buildings in Bangalore have unsafe electrical equipments and poor insulations. One does not know when and what will happen in such buildings. Many building owners are not at all bothered about fire safety norms. And they do not spend money on educating people.

In future, the government should implement rules that every student should have a certification on fire safety and emergency so as to take up jobs after school or college. Also the Government should be serious in assessing buildings and ensure punitive measures are taken if safety norms are violated.

understand science. If you want someone to learn to repair an automobile, you need an automobile to repair. If you want to teach someone to cook, you put them in a kitchen. Did anyone hear of teaching someone to swim in a traditional classroom? Likewise, in order to truly learn science, we must "do" science.

In this program, each participant would receive a tool-kit, activity book and activity material to complete the working model. Concepts discussion and assistance by instructors, combined with hands-on experience would help the participant understand and retain the concept better (inquiry based learning), get a sense of accomplishment and relate to similar situations better. The participant gets to take away the working models, that he/she has made.

The summer camp activity begins from April 6. Contact Taylor Bird for information on Duration and Schedule, Camp Fees, and List of activities for sub-juniors and juniors.

New ideas that could change the world

Repository of Knowledge and Wisdom BEML Layout: Holidays are in the offing and parents are busy trying to keep their children occupied in many ways. Games, exercise, exhibitions, movies, other extracurricular activities etc are very much in the list. Is there anything else you could think of for your children?

L e t y o u r c h i l d r e n l e a r n Vi s h n u Sahasranamam. Here is an opportunity for your child to learn Vishnu Sahasranamam at BEML Layout Venkatramani Swamy Temple. Thanks to Mr Jayakumar for having created a pious atmosphere in the temple premises where young children can learn Vishnu Sahasranamam in the evenings. Many children who recited Vishnu Sahasranamam with Mr Jayakumar know it by heart. Just an hour of class every day for three months made them achieve this feat. What does Vishnu Sahasranamam have in it?

It contains 1008 Names of Sri Mahavishnu. This entire compiling was done after the Mahabharata war and Saint Vyasa Mahamuni wrote the entire verses with answers for the queries raised during that time. Every name of Sri Vishnu has a meaning to it; also - the phonetic vibrations by chanting each Name known as "Nama" and the chain of names known as "Namavali" produces wonderful results that are essential for human knowledge and wisdom. Besides strengthening the brain’s neurons, it also emits the vibrations that can reverberate the energies into one's own body. Besides, the thought and thinking of a person is also regulated to the divine path.

BEML Layout: BEML layout is fast developing with more people settling down. It has got wonderful parks and temples. Adding to the growth and beauty, one more temple - Sri Plague Amma Mariamma Temple – is being inaugurated. The Kumbabishekam of Sri Plague Amma

thMariamma Temple will take place on 5 March 2010. The devotees are requested to contact the temple office for more details.

MIND WORKS-24Our Words Create our WorldBy UK Athikkal-----------

Two young friends Ram and Shyam were playing in their village courtyard in evening hours. That day they were practicing climbing of different branches of a large sized tree. It was monsoon season. Strong and gusty winds appeared all of a sudden. The branches supporting them started swinging heavily creating panic to both Ram and Shyam.

Mothers of these boys came out of their homes. Both were panic stricken when they saw the plight of their children. One of them shouted out in panic, “ Ram, don't fall down. Don't panic.” The other mother was a little more composed and called out to her son, “ Shyam, hold the branch tightly and come down safely.”

Do you know what happened? On hearing his mother's words, Ram got in to further panic' resulting in his losing his grip from the branches and falling down to the ground and sustaining injuries. Then what about Shyam? On hearing his mother's words, he followed the instructions unconsciously. He could hold on to the branches till the gusty wind stopped and managed to get down safely.

What is the reason for these two different outcomes of their mothers' interventions? The words uttered by their respective mothers made the difference, making one child to fall down and helping the other to tide over the situation safely. One needs to be aware that the images and internal dialogues/feelings created by the words, “don't fall down” and “don't get in to panic” are sufficient to create just opposite response from the child to what was intended. This is how our sub-conscious processes work over which we have no direct control.

It is therefore necessary to monitor the words we use repeatedly in our daily life in all our conversations, comments and commands. When parents tell their children not to watch T V, they are in fact reinforcing the desire of the child to do the opposite. It would be far more beneficial if parents attempt to suggest the child what the child is supposed to do at that time rather than telling her what

she is not expected to do’Now let us consider the situation in an

average workplace in Indian context. Most words used by the workmen, their peers and bosses are fault finding and blaming words. They often imply negative comments, telling the listener what they are not expected to do. It is said that we tend to use a person less, for whatever reason, and subsequently label him as useless. Repeated exposure to such comments and words do result in adversely affecting positive behaviours and work place harmony.

Take the case of our normal thoughts and internal talks. We need to be aware of those words and monitor them. If anyone repeatedly uses a word “I can't” the subconscious process is likely to start believing his inability to perform that task, inviting failure and disappointments. Positive thoughts and feelings tend to produce positive images and related behavioral patterns. The world we live is a collective creation of our thoughts and the words we make use of in our conversations. This column is written by U K Athikkal, a Life Skill Coach and a Certified Trainer and Practitioner of N L P. He c a n b e c o n t a c t e d a t [email protected]

Vishveshwaraiya Museum in Bangalore has a very big building. The museum contains different floors dedicated to different technologies like Electronics, Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Solar system, etc. At the basement, several working models of generators which produce electricity, engines 4 stroke and 2 stroke which are used in almost all modern vehicles, levers and gears are well displayed. We ourselves can operate and see how they work. Also various molecular and atomic structures are built and well displayed. At the aerodynamic section, the different principles which make a plane fly are modeled. Each planet is discussed with full details about its atmosphere, number of satellites, its gravity and temperature. At the electronic section, how electronics are made is explained in full detail. Also various chemicals used in making a CD is explained in a model. I also attended a show which narrates a complete story of our galaxy, solar system, the sun, the moon and various constellations. Through very interesting conversations, the narrator introduced me to a different constellations and how to identify them. And I also saw a 3D show in which we wear special 3D glasses. When we watch this show it feels as though we are in the movie.

MOVIE

Nativity ! - Holiday Watch

Nativity is a piece of festive fun that keeps the whole family entertained. Martin Freeman stars as Mr Maddens, a primary teacher who is tasked with directing his school's annual Nativity play, assisted by his childishly hyperactive classroom assistant Mr Poppy.

Finding himself backed into a corner by rival school Nativity director Mr Shakespeare, Maddens makes up a story that his ex-girlfriend (Ashley Jensen), now working in America and no longer in touch, is going to bring 'Hollywood' to Coventry to see his school's show. Unfortunately the lie finds its way to Maddens's understandably elated head teacher (Pam Ferris), and Maddens is forced to pull together a spectacular show while simultaneously

trying to figure out how to break the news that no movie execs are going to be descending on the town any time soon.

The supporting cast overflows with comedy talent, and each one is given their moment to shine. Mark Wootton's guileless Mr Poppy is a hilarious and all-too-real creation, while Jason Watkins steals every scene he appears in as private school pr ima donna Gordon Shakespeare (his school's 'daring' take on the Nativity is one of the film's funniest moments). Alan Carr as a sandwich-guzzling newspaper critic is less inspired, but still good for a few chuckles.

With summer fast approaching, watermelon season is now getting started. Watermelon helps you lose weight and also boost your nutritional intake. One of the best things about watermelon is that it contains so much water. Especially during the summer months, hydration becomes so important as you are likely sweating more than usual, further increasing your need. Eating more fruits and vegetables is a great way to increase your hydration level while providing your body with plenty of vitamins and nutrients.

One notable health benefit of watermelon is that it can help reduce the inflammation that those who have asthma,

atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon cancer and arthritis see. It's always best to try and find natural remedies for your health concerns so this would be a great option for those suffering.

Additionally, watermelon is also very high in many antioxidants, reducing your risk for damages seen by disease causing free radicals. First off, it is an excellent source of vitamin C, with one cup containing about 25% of your recommended daily intake. The consumption of watermelon will also help you to heal faster as one of the amino acids found in it speeds up wound healing and aids in the process of cell division. Take note however that most of this nutrient is found in the white part of the fruit which unfortunately most people end up throwing away.
