Registered undergraduates and teaching faculty can get a laptop
The current contract period is one year
Graduate students are not included, but may get a laptop at the rate of $95 per credit hour if we have laptops available after Fall distribution.

If you have a problem with your laptop, bring it to the Help Desk, Room C203, Taubman Student Services Center.
Most fixes and repairs can be done on the spot.
If the repair takes longer, you can borrow a laptop while yours is being fixed.

DO:• Always shut down your laptop
properly using the “Start” button / Shutdown procedure
• Always keep your laptop in your possession.
• Let the laptop power off completely before putting it in a case to prevent overheating.
• Keep it clean.
DON’T: Close the laptop lid with objects
inside. Place heavy objects, like books, on
top of the laptop. Leave your laptop where
temperatures are extremely hot or cold, such as in your car. Extreme temperatures can damage the screen and other components.
Leave your laptop in the classroom or in your car. Don’t tempt anyone to steal your laptop.
Spill liquid on the keyboard. Liquids will damage the keyboard.
Use glue or stickers on your laptop.

Laptop, LTU Network, and Laptop, LTU Network, and EMAIL EMAIL Login IDs and PasswordsLogin IDs and PasswordsThis ID and password lets you login to your laptop, the LTU network
andyour LTU email.
The ID is your first and last name initials and your student ID number:

First time password is date of birth. MMDDYYExample: date of birth is Nov. 24, 1987 112487
When you login for the first time, you must change your password.
You must be on campus to change your password.
This password expires every 180 days. You should change it three times a year.

LTU Internet & Wireless LTU Internet & Wireless ConnectionsConnections
Provides wireless Internet access from anywhere on campus, but not off campus.
You access the LTU network to connect to the Internet, send email, use some of LTU’s licensed software, and print to public campus printers.
Make sure your wireless connection is enabled. Check the wireless LED indicator on your laptop.
The LTU wireless network covers the campus area but does not extend beyond campus.
If you want Internet access from your home or workplace, you must set up access from an Internet Service Provider or ISP, for example Earthlink, Comcast, or AOL. LTU does not provide Internet access to off campus users.

What is Blackboard?What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is a web-based teaching tool that Lawrence Tech implemented to support instruction.
LTU’s Blackboard web page is my.ltu.edu
Most students will use Blackboard to view course materials, communicate with their instructor and classmates, submit class assignments, and check their grades.

Blackboard IDs and Blackboard IDs and PasswordsPasswords All students have Blackboard IDs created for them.
Your Blackboard ID is your first and last name initials and your nine digit student ID number.
For example:
If your name is Larry Tech, and your student ID number is 000123456, your Blackboard User ID is: lt000123456.
Your Blackboard password is just your nine digit student ID number. Larry Tech would login to Blackboard as:
USERNAME: lt000123456PASSWORD: 000123456

Using EmailUsing Email
All students have an LTU email account. This LTU email account is the official means of communication for the university.
Your email account uses the same USER ID and PASSWORD as your laptop.
Your email address is your [email protected]. For example, Larry Tech with an ID number of 000123456 has an email address of: [email protected]
If you change your laptop login password, your email password is also changed.

Email Software SettingsEmail Software Settings
Use these settings to set up Outlook, Outlook Express, or another email software package:
• Incoming Server Type: IMAP (or IMAP4 if your software asks for this)
• Incoming Mail Server: postoffice.ltu.edu
• Outgoing Mail Server: mail.ltu.edu

Printers and PrintingPrinters and Printing
The three main public printers are C203, E152, and M113a. Printers are also available in North and South Housing.
The printer names are the same as their location. Printer C203 is located in room C203.
You must be on campus to print to these printers.

Adding a PrinterAdding a Printer Click the ‘Start’ button on the lower left
corner of the screen.
Click on ‘Run…’
In the command box type: \\apollo\c203 and hit ‘Enter.’
If asked to enter a login ID and password enter:
User ID: CAMPUS\[your login ID] Password: [your password]
The printer will connect and a window for the printer will open.
(You can only add a printer that you have permission to use)

Setting a Default PrinterSetting a Default Printer
Click on the ‘Start’ button, lower left corner of the screen.
Click on ‘Printers and Faxes.’
When the window opens, it lists all printers you have installed.
With your mouse, right click on the printer you wish to set as a default. Click on ‘Select as Default Printer.’
