Rita’s Italian Ice LN Student-Athletes of the Week Rita’s is located at 8910 East 96th Street, just north of the intersection of 96th

This week we would like to recognize senior sport photographer Jared Rigdon

and junior swimmer Kristen Mouser. Rigdon has been serving LN athletics most of his high school career, capturing many memorable sporting moments

for LN athletics. This year, he has even had some of his shot featured in the Indy Star and is working as an intern for the Lawrence Township Schools. Mouser led the Wildcat swimmers at the IHSAA sectional meet last week,

placing in the finals of both the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke while posting lifetime best times. Great job, Kristen and Jared! Photos by Alanna

Girls Basketball: The #5 Wildcats (20-5, 5-2 MIC) took a hard loss to Warren Central in the first round of the sectional, 37-36. Warren Central stormed to a double digit lead early in the game. They didn’t miss a shot in the first quarter, while the Wildcats started out cold. The team stormed back and eventually tied the game at 36, but the Warriors hit 1 of 2 free throws with less than a minute to play and the Cats couldn’t get a last possession shot to go down. Despite the loss, the team had an amazing season, winning 20 games for the 5th time in 6 years. Congrats to Trinity Brady and Katie Davidson, who were named to the All-Marion County team! Boys Basketball: The #14 Wildcats (12-6, 1-4 MIC) lost a heartbreaker against Carmel on a last second shot in double overtime, 52-51. The Cats did a great job fighting their way back into the game, being down double digits in the first half. The team had a couple of opportunities to win in in regulation and again in OT, but the shots didn’t fall. Lawrence North will host the defending state champion Ben Davis Giants on Friday night at home in the Jack Keefer Gymnasium. Come support the sectional champion softball team before the game! The LN softball players will be pitching you some gourmet hot dogs, chips, yummy desserts, and drinks before the game for just $5. With the purchase of a dinner, you’ll get $1 off your game ticket. Boys/Girls Swimming: The girls team hosted the IHSAA sectional meet, finishing in 4th place out of 12 teams. Several swimmers placed in the finals, including Brooke Atkins, Kristen Mouser, Edin Hall, Rebecca Fernandez, Kelly Matsuoka, Sophie Bradburn, and Sally Stephenson. Great job, Wildcats! The boys team will be training this week in preparation for the sectional meet at North Central on February 15th and 17th. The senior swimmers were recognized prior to the LN vs NC boys dual meet; Johnny Salvas, Edin Hall, Deli Mueller, Sally Stephenson, Jose Cervantes, John Strain, Rebecca Fernandez, Joslyn Jenkins, Nolan Kreigh, and Michael Schaeckenbach. Wrestling: The LN wrestlers had a great showing at the IHSAA Regional, finishing 2nd overall. Six wrestlers advanced to the New Castle Semi-State this Saturday: Karsten Harshbarger, 2nd at 113; Dheontae Unseld at 152, James Despain at 160, Harold Jones at 170, Deon Pettiford at 195, and Tyler Majors at 285.
