Hy-Vee & Hormel Foods Spread Smiles with 11,000-Pound Donation of Skippy® Peanut Butter to Food Banks Across the Midwest Hy-Vee, Inc., in conjunction with Hormel Foods, is donating more than 11,000 pounds of Skippy® creamy peanut butter to food banks across the grocer’s eight-state region. The donation is part of a hunger program created by the makers of Skippy peanut butter in 2018. Earlier this year, Hy-Vee participated in a sales promotion with Skippy, and as a result was provided more than 11,000 pounds of peanut butter to be distributed to food banks in 11 different communities. The hefty peanut butter donation equates to more than 184,467 peanut butter sandwiches. “Through our partnership with Hormel Foods and its popular Skippy brand, we can further address the issue of hunger here in the Midwest,” said Craig Clasen, Hy-Vee’s senior vice president of retail business development. “Hy-Vee and Hormel Foods care about our customers, and this is a great way to

give back to our communities.” Food banks in each of the following locations will receive 1,000 pounds of peanut butter, which supplies enough peanut butter to make approximately 16,300 sandwiches. • Austin, Minnesota • Fremont, Nebraska • Jefferson City, Missouri • Kirksville, Missouri • Le Mars, Iowa • Muscatine, Iowa • Norfolk, Nebraska • Ottumwa, Iowa • Quincy, Illinois • St. Joseph, Missouri • Yankton, South Dakota “Protein is a much-needed item for households, and peanut butter is a terrific protein option,” said Doug Johnston, senior customer executive at Hormel Foods. “We want to thank Hy-Vee for joining this effort and thank the local food banks for serving their communities. Hormel Foods and the Skippy brand are proud to give back to the communities Hy-Vee serves.”

Laurens Women's Club to MeetThe Laurens Women’s Club will meet on Friday, November 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the West Iowa Bank. Sandy Aronson will present the program “Uganda”. Jackie Stelter will give the book report. Members of the Serving Committee are Jackie Stelter and Carol Hoffman.

J.D. Scholten To Host Town Hall in RolfeJ.D. Scholten, congressional candidate for Iowa’s 4th district, will host a town hall in Rolfe on Thursday, November 7th as part of his “Don't Forget About Us” tour. During the tour, Scholten will hold a town hall in a town with a population of less than 1,000 in each of the 4th district’s 39 counties. Too often, Iowa’s rural communities have been forgotten and left behind by politicians. As a result of the years of federal neglect and the lack of investment, hospitals consolidate, grocery stores and schools close, and more and more of Iowa’s children leave the district due to the lack of opportunity. J.D. is committed to making these towns a priority and revitalizing our rural communities. J.D. wants to fix our healthcare system, fight for an economy that works for all of us, and secure our democracy by getting special interests and big money out of politics. His campaign writes no one off and leaves no one behind, which is why he’s getting out directly to the people, and working to earn the trust and vote of every Republican, Democrat, and Independent in this district. The town hall will be held a the Community Center, 319 Garfield St. in Rolfe on Thursday, November 7 at 7:00 p.m. This community event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome.

At the Library with Glenda MulderNovember 6, 2019 The next program on our calendar is tonight, November 6th! Story Teller Darrin Crow will bring us Coal Car Riggs and Little Eva – The Great Depression in Iowa. His website describes it this way, “This first person story weaves together the lives of Coal Car Riggs, a hobo and the young farm girl Eva Killen as each struggles to survive. Along the way they will cross paths with Grant Wood, Jeff Davis the Hobo King, and the Million Dollar Mulligan.” Iowa librarians are giving this story teller rave reviews. This program is possible because of your generous support of the Laurens Public Library Foundation. New books this week include quite a few nonfiction, so I’ll tell you about those first. We received: Janis: Her life and music by Holly George-Warren, Home Work: a memoir of my Hollywood years by Julie Andrews, Me: Elton John by, of course, Elton John, Jet Girl: My life in war, peace, and the cockpit of the world's most lethal aircraft, the F/A-18 Super Hornet by Caroline Johnson and The Way I Heard It by Mike Rowe. In fiction we received: Christmas Gathering by Anne Perry, Noel Street by Richard Paul Evans, Final Option by Clive Cussler, Kiss the Girls and Make Them Cry by Mary Higgins Clark, Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky, Someone to Remember by Mary Balogh and All About Evie by one of my favorite authors, Cathy Lamb. We are all excited to be a part of the Pocahontas County STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Festival that L-M is hosting for all TK- 6th grade students in our County this Friday, November 8. We will be reading (naturally!) the book How to Code a Sand Castle and doing a fun coding activity that goes along with it.
