Objectives:

16. To acquire an extremely precise command of the English language through the

study of this classical language, gone are the days of dangling prepositions,

awkward relative clauses, weak passive expressions, mixed modifiers and

incorrect pronoun usage

Expectations:

Written homework is given on a nightly basis with exception of Wednesday nights.

Quizzes are given weekly or bi weekly, and tests are occasionally administered.

Corrected quizzes enable the Latin scholar to improve their grade. There will be a

cumulative exam at the end of the year.

Nos linguam Latinam studemus. In Latin 2, students expand their understanding of

Roman culture, history, and literature including food, poetry, and historical figures.

Students’ English vocabulary increases through the examination of Latin derivatives.

There is an emphasis on translation with students asked to translate from English to Latin

and from Latin to English. The major concept of the year is learning the passive forms of

Latin verbs in all six tenses. Study will include the fourth and fifth declension of Latin

nouns along with comparative and superlative forms of Latin adjectives and adverbs.

Students will become familiar with grammatical forms and uses, including relative and

interrogative pronouns, indefinite adjectives, participles and the various uses of the

dative, accusative and ablative cases. The “Ecce Romani” text continues with level I-B

and IIA.
