Chucks Self centering chuck –

A self-centering chuck, also known as a scroll chuck uses dogs (usually called jaws), interconnected via a scroll gear (scroll plate), to hold on to a tool or work piece. 

Collet chuck

Special adapter fitted into taper of headstock spindle, and hollow draw bar having internal thread inserted in opposite end of headstock spindle. It draws collet into tapered adapter causing collet to tighten on work piece.

Face plateA lathe faceplate is the basic work holding accessory for a wood or metal turning lathe. It is a circular metal (usually cast iron) plate which fixes to the end of the lathe spindle.
