1 THECHARITYGUILD.ORG VOL. 7 NO. 3 VOL. 7 NO. 3 LATE AUTUMN 2016 LATE AUTUMN 2016 Laurene's Night Photograph by Diane Prince This year’s gala, on Oct. 14 at the Shaw’s Center, had a special honoree, something we do not do every year. It was our dear friend Laurene Frederick, who said she suspected nothing until Chairwoman Nancy Gustafson called her name. To maintain the surprise, board member Barbara Janelli doctored Laurene’s copy of the program book, snipping out all the congratulatory ads. Mayor Bill Carpenter and Representative Claire Cronin added their own citations to ours, and State Senator Michael Brady and Representative Gerry Cassidy joined in the congratulations. Nearly 250 people attended the gala, titled “Dance the Night Away.” Laurene was born in Brockton, graduated from Brockton High and Catholic University and was charge nurse of the cardiac telemetry floor at Cardinal Cushing Hospital. Involved with The Guild since the mid-1980’s, Laurene has held just about every office: chairperson, treasurer, assistant treasurer, secretary, administrative secretary, board member, chairwoman of countless committees and all-around volunteer. With the loyal support of her husband, Steve Frederick, she has given unselfishly of her time, talents and resources. Laurene, as seen in a slide show The Guild put together, and at the gala. Photograph by Diane Prince “Hooray for Holly Days” The Holiday Concert returns this year with three terrific acts performing on Friday, Dec. 2, at Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton. The show – “Hooray for Holly Days” – will feature jazz singer Lori Colombo, a daughter of the late trumpeter Lou Colombo and a devotee of “The Great American Songbook.” Also on the bill will be keyboard wizard Jack Colombo (her cousin!) and the R & B flavored guitar-keyboard duo of Steve George and Rich Cesarini. The evening will begin with cocktails at 6. Dinner will start at 6:45 and the show at 8. Tickets for the entire evening are $50 and are $25 for the show alone.
