Dear FBC Family:
I am writing to formally submit my resignation from the Director of
Choirs position at First Bap-
tist Lawrence, effective Monday, June 1, 2015. I am accepting a
faculty position at Drury Universi-
ty where I will coordinate the music education program and conduct
the Drury Cho-
rale. Additionally, I will serve as Artistic Director of the
Springfield-Drury Girls Choir, a civic
choral organization for girls in 2nd through 9th grades. I will
oversee the organization and serve
as Conductor of the newly formed 7th-9th grade ensemble. I am also
planning to continue my
ministry in sacred music, and am in the process of finalizing the
details of a position with a local
congregation.
The timing of this decision will allow me to accompany my wife
Amelia during her dissertation
research in Prague this summer. I am extremely grateful for the
opportunity to have served FBC these past three years,
and take no pleasure in leaving. However, the opportunity to lead
in university, sacred, and civic music positions close to
family is one that I cannot pass up. My thoughts and prayers will
be with FBC during this time of transition, and I ask
your prayers as Amelia and I begin this new chapter of our lives. I
am confident that the music at FBC will continue to
remain a vital part of worship, and a point of pride among the
ministries of the church. I will carry nothing but fond
memories of my time at FBC and of Lawrence, and wish you all the
best for the next 160 years.
Sincerely,
Wish Jim & Amelia farewell at a going-away reception this
Sunday,
May 31, at 10:30 a.m. in the Roger Williams Room!

A music leader is needed for the ABGirls weekend camp,

KS. Myra Snedeker (Cheryl Harader's sister) is director.
Her co-director-music leader accepted a new job and
can't be present now, so Myra is looking for someone to
lead 3rd graders - 12th graders in music for the weekend.
If you are interested, contact Cheryl at the church, or call
Myra at 316-644-9726. Thank you.
Return of the Communicators!
A few years ago, a group within the church called the Com-
municators met once a month. They were led by Hazel
Nitcher and Marj King. The attendance varied from 12 to
16, and was not necessarily the same people every time.
Their purpose was simply to visit with one another, and
there was no set program nor plan to hold a Bible study.
Instead, they opened and closed with prayer, and in be-
tween, simply held a conversation. The goal was not to
complain or gossip, but to discuss life and the questions of
life:
♦ How do you celebrate holidays?
♦ Why are some men bald and others are not?!?
Would you like to participate if the Communicators group
were to begin meeting again? If so, please contact Annie
Merriam at 841-1384.
