Friday 22nd November 2019 Dear Parents and Guardians On Monday evening, I joined staff, parents and relatives at the Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park to watch our amazing Performing Arts students take part in the annual Shakespeare Schools Festival. As usual I was blown away by the quality of the production and particularly with the way the 14 students dealt with the pressure of performing in front of a large, live audience. I was extremely proud of what they achieved and they were superb ambassadors for the school. What was really pleasing was that the students were from all year groups between Year 7 and Year 10. The Capulets and Montagues were portrayed as Blues and Reds of the football kind. Several of the cast had to wear a top of the team they don't support—that is commitment to the cause! I have written to all 14 students to thank and congratulate them. Well done to Chloe Campbell, Olivia Campbell, Olivia Connolly, Neve Graham, Jack Fielden, Damien Jones. Richie Longworth, Lucie-Mae Mitchell, Chloe Smith, Joe Taylor, Vincent Woods, Ella Regan, Abigail Maguire and Caitlin Smith. Finally thanks to Miss Andrews and Miss Harper for their hard work over the last few weeks and months on the production. Yesterday I received the following email from the Chief Executive of Knowsley Council about the performance. “I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you and your School for their contribution to the Shakespeare Schools Festival performances on 18 November 2019. The Festival is a huge opportunity for all involved. From personal experience, Shakespeare “on the page” can be daunting for people – children and adults alike – so getting a chance to put the words into practice can help to make sense of it. I’m always amazed at the extent of the understanding which the young people show – they aren’t just reciting the words, but actually playing their parts. Of course, none of it would be possible without the staff in the schools who clearly put so much effort in – can you please pass on my appreciation to those involved at Halewood Academy, and of course to the young people who performed so well.” Thanks to the parents who attended the Parents’ Forum last night. The next Forum is on Thursday 6th February at 5pm. We will provide an update on issues discussed yesterday to parents who attended before that meeting. Your input is very gratefully received. Finally, can I draw your attention to the After School Activities rota that is on Page 3. There are plenty of things for your child to do after school each day so please encourage them to join in. Friday 22nd November 2019 Dear Parents and Guardians

On Monday evening, I joined staff, parents and relatives at the Knowsley

Leisure and Culture Park to watch our amazing Performing Arts students

take part in the annual Shakespeare Schools Festival. As usual I was

blown away by the quality of the production and particularly with the way

the 14 students dealt with the pressure of performing in front of a large,

were superb ambassadors for the school. What was really pleasing was

that the students were from all year groups between Year 7 and Year

thanks to Miss Andrews and Miss Harper for their hard work over the

last few weeks and months on the production.

Following on from the success last year, Halewood Academy will be hosting a KS4 subject carousel drop in event on Thursday

28th November from 3.00pm until 5.00pm focusing on Year 9, 10 and 11 students. Parents, carers and students will have the

opportunity to participate in some parent sessions in English, Maths, Science and Humanities. You will be able to speak to

teachers one to one; learn more detail about the subject specifications being taught at GCSE level, have support with revision

phone apps, strategies to aid revision and be able to purchase revision guides for subjects (Revision guides for most subjects

will be available to purchase during the event.) Yr. 11 parents/carers also have the opportunity to use this event as a catch

up for any of the missed yr. 11 progress evenings so far.

During the free event there will be an opportunity to gain careers advice on future pathways, further education, apprentice-

ships, and have one to one guidance on your son’s/daughter’s future aspirations, to ensure they are fully equipped regarding

how they can reach their career goals.

Student Blog In the first of a new series of Student Blogs, Evie-Jo Kenna, a Student Leader from Year 10, describes how she flew a plane dur-ing the Summer.

My name is Evie-Jo Kenna and I am an Air Cadet. Over the Summer I was given the opportunity to go to the annual camp (RAF Shawbury). While I was there, I gained lots of new skills and memories as it was my first camp. However, I have one experience that I know I will never forget. I took control of a grob tutor (plane) while in flight. My flight drove up to RAF Cosford; we ran through safety procedures, I got my gear on and we were up in the air. While I was in the air the pilot explained all of the controls and what was going on over the radios. I followed the pilot through some moves to see how they felt and then took control and did them myself. I did straight and level flight, rolls left and right, climbing and de-scending back to straight and level flight; it was amazing! We even took a selfie mid-flight! Overall it was a once in a lifetime experience that I am extremely grateful I was given. My abilities are pushed every day in my learning environment, which allows me to have the confidence to do this and hopefully many more in the future!
