PRINCIPAL SCHOOL COUNCIL The nomination process for the 2019 School Council has concluded and I am delighted to welcome new parent members, Stacey Caldwell and Leah Gilbert on to Council. Our School Council for 2019 consists of: Parent members: Vicky Adams, Claire Bray, Stacey Caldwell, Leah Gilbert, Nicole Jurasov-Torpy, Alicia Karachiwala, Leisa McGuiness, Kintara Phillips, Mel Schmidt and Jo Sword. LPPS DET members: Richard Barren, Laura Freeman and Denise Webster. There is one position still to be determined in this group. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our out-going School Councillors, Matilda Pretorius, Desiree Slattery and school DET member, Fay Hanifah for their wonderful contribution to Langwarrin Park Primary School. The first meeting for the new School Council will be held on 18 March. It will be preceded by the AGM and presentation of the Annual Report which begins at 6pm. Office bearers will be elected following this. CURRICULUM DAY Our second Curriculum day for the year will be held on Tuesday 2 April. On this day teachers from our network schools will attend a combined Professional Learning day with Misty Adoniou, a highly regarded literacy consultant who has previously worked with other metropolitan networks focusing on writing and reading. One of the key goals in our new Strategic Plan targets the improvement of student skills and capabilities in both of these areas and it will be a valuable opportunity to work with our colleagues from other network schools to improve student learning. Our OSHC provider, Camp Australia will be offering their service on this day and can be contacted on 1300 105 343 for bookings if needed. Denise Webster

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL LEVEL NEWSLETTERS If you have not already done so, please visit the school story in Class Dojo to access the link for each of the Level Newsletters. Each grade level team has written a term newsletter which provides an overview of what is happening in the grade level for the term. WHAT HAPPENED AT SCHOOL TODAY? As a parent, it is important to discover what your child did at school during the day and to focus on the positive aspects of their day. Instead of asking, “What happened at school today?” try: 1. Who were you kind and friendly with today? 2. Tell me what made you laugh today?

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL YEAR 6 SUMMIT CAMP It was a pleasure to attend the Year 6 camp to, “The Summit”, this week. School camps are a great way for students and teachers to build on their relationships and see each other in a different ‘light’. This camp particularly required everyone to work closely as a team and to be supportive. Activities included navigating through dark tunnels, abseiling down 20 metre walls, walking across 5 metre high walls and attacking a monster course of mud! It was so pleasing to watch students (and teachers) confront personal fears and to support others to do the same. A big thanks must go to the Year 6 teaching team, David Rosser, Kit Rahman, Jarrad Rose, Trudi Paydon and Travis Shakes for making this experience for our Year 6 students such a positive one! Richard Barren

PHYSICAL EDUCATION YEAR 6 SUMMER SPORT Year 6 students participated in their first Interschool Competition against Somerville Rise Primary School last Friday. It is an exciting time for all students and a wonderful experience. Our philosophy with Interschool Sport at LPPS is for students to have a positive ex-perience with team sport. Therefore our emphasis is on: Participation Developing an understanding of the sport and working co-operatively in a team. Demonstrating good sportsmanship at all times – playing by the rules, supporting teammates, acknowledging the achievements

of the opposition, winning graciously and losing with dignity. Fun Whilst it is nice to win, the above mentioned takes priority – winning is a bonus!
