We will read informational text, poems, short stories, and full-length books including, but not limited to:

▪ Goal:– Produce writing that supports opinions,

demonstrates understanding of the content, and conveys real and imagined experiences and events.

– Adapt the form and content of writing for a particular task and purpose and a variety of audiences.

– Build knowledge on a subject through research projects and respond analytically to literary and informational sources.

Speaking & Listening

▪ Goal:– Take part in a variety of rich, structured

conversations

▪ Goal:– Gain control over many conventions of

standard English grammar, usage, and mechanics.

– Determine or clarify the meaning of grade-appropriate words and expand vocabulary.

▪ Silent reading material (e.g., book, comic book, magazine, newspaper, etc.)

Grading Procedure

▪ Total points– Classwork & Participation– Homework– Assessments (e.g. essays, projects,

presentations, quizzes, tests, etc.)

Assignments

▪ Assignments will have different point values– Summative assessments are worth 50 to 100

points.– Homework will be worth 10 to 20 points.– Classwork/participation will be worth five to 10

points.

▪ Major assignments need to be turned in on the due date. One letter grade will be deducted for each day it is late.– In the case of an absence, it can be turned in via

email or dropped off at the main office by 3:30 P.M.

Study Session

▪ Tuesdays, 3:35-4:15 P.M.

▪ Available in the Media Center on Monday afternoons (3:35-4:30 P.M.)

▪ As needed basis, by appointment (AM or PM)
