WHO WAS LANGSTON HUGHES?

James Mercer Langston Hughes

A famous American poet, social activist, playwright, and journalist

One of the earliest innovators of the literary art form called jazz poetry.

Awards: Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, Spingarn Medal, Quill Award for Poetry

Attended Lincoln & Columbia University

Langston Hughes contributed to the Harlem renaissance by providing individuals with relatable literature that was well written. In addition he allowed people to understand life through his eyes which was very clear to many.
