The following portofolio displays a selection of academic and professional projects developed between 2001 up to nowadays.

The aim is to show the progressive evolution of various techniques within dierent situations and environments. The goal is to improve my professional experience by keeping the same enthusiasm and philosophy of the early stage.

Landscape architecture is for me a tool to improve our urban spaces with sensible design and functional solutions.

I invite you to view and hopefully enjoy my work.

Thank you,

Alessandro Vino.

ERASMUS scholarship spent in Denmark at KVL (LIFE) “The royal veterinary and agricultural university” in Frederiksberg - Copenhagen.

Conference - Workshop “Townscape in process” organised by ELASA (European Landscape Architect Student Association) at the Technische Universität - Berlin.

Bachelor thesis “Design on Space zero”. The competition based project focused the attention onyoung people and their behaviour in public spaces through a specic design.

Bachelor programme transferred in Sweden at SLU “Sveriges Lantbruks Universitet” - Alnarp. Two semesters, courses focused on Landscape design and Landscape management.

SLU implemented a change in the structure for Bachelor courses towards the European model. The thesis was revised during Spring 2009 and regarded to be not suitable for the new standards.

A new Bachelor thesis, “Nygård’s kindergarten, reections for a design” passed the examination. In May 2011 I obtained the Bachelor diploma from SLU as Landscape Architect.

2011 Join the “International Master of Landscape Architecture” (IMLA) at

2001COURSE

Landscape Design, 1st year - University of Genoa.

AIMTo design and model an open space for the students in the underused area situated nearby the faculty of Architecture.

SITEGenoa’s historical centre, 700 square metres of surface, enclosed within four walls. A declension of 16 metres from the norther edgeto the southern entrance.

DESIGNThe open space has been made accessible for disables, adjusting the declension to ease their access to half of the site. As this is one of the few green areas within the old town it has been enriched with several layers of vegetation, in order to provide a fresh shelter during summer time. All the species are endemics of the Mediterranean area.

COURSELandscape Design, 2nd year - University of Genoa.

AIMTo design a new water front modifying the existing square situated in the village of Lerici.

SITEThe town of Lerici is situated on the Ligurian coastnearby the UNESCO site of Cinque Terre. The main square of the village has been used in the past to approach the sea, damaged boats were brought into the open square to be repaired.

DESIGNA reopening has been thought in order to give back the lost functionality of the square. A large amount of soil has been removed to place a wide and undulate wooden jetty. The design transforms the square into an articial beach and gives an approach to people who wish to enjoy the sea without leaving the town.

DESIGNThe new station shall join function and modern design. The project aimed to solve various techni-cal aspects, such as water management, illumina-tion, soil use and plantation. The soil already present in the are has been used to create several hills of dierent size, from 50 cm till 2 metres of height and various width. An abundant Robinia plantation lled the area within the hills, which has been enclosed by a COR-TEN edge with and undulate section partially disappear underneath the hills.

2004COURSE

Student competition, 3rd year - KVL University.

AIMTo design an Islamic garden part of a series of thematic gardens included in Valby park inCopenhagen.

SITEValby park, south-west of Copenhagen; the thematic gardens are inscribed in circles, randomly displayed within an area of the vast park, normally surrounded by an edge of shrubswith a diameter of 30 metres.

DESIGNThe idea is to emphasise the most important elements of the Islamic religion, found in theirrich gardens of the past. The paradise is the inner part, Allah in the centre of everything, with vigorous vegetation while the outside represent the real world, desolate. The view of the inner part is screened by a black metal grid, it’s possible to get a glimpse of the Paradise. The pavement made of reddish granite cubes represent a peculi-ar pattern found in some illustration of Islamic gardens. The stone in the centre of the garden is the Kabbah, from where life ows in form of waterinto the four sacred rivers. The Magnolia and the two Cupressus are symbolising the dome of the Mosque with the Minarets.

The cubes measure four by four metres, place on a thin concrete base are able to host paintings or sculptures in the interior. As the cubes are lightedfrom the bottom the open air museum can be visited even at sundown. The following page pre-sent some of the cubes’ disposition over the land. The original farming house has been partially keptand renewed, adding two side wings in order to host some facilities such as museum shop, reception and storage.

2006COURSE

Bachelor thesis, 4th year - SLU University.

AIMBeing this both a Design competition and the -nal Bachelor thesis I had to focus on two dierent aim for the same project. Handing in a four plates folder to D&AD with the design only and a comp-lete academic report to SLU. The ten weeks work-ing time given by the Faculty were used to design a space and building in an urban situation that will inspire and engage young people in under used parts of a city.

SITECity of Malmø, the project site is located betweenthe centre and a well establish industrial site. The vast under used space is a plane of broken asphalt. The site has a great potential and acces-sibility.

DESIGNThe competition brief set several requirements forthe design:-Durable.-Environmentally friendly.-Accessible at any time.-Functional. -Specically designed for the youth. No restriction in matter of shape nor size were gi-ven. A location may be specied but not necessa-rily as the concept design shall eventually work in various location and situations.

DESIGNRegarding the Environmentally friendly aspect the use of green roofs, green walls and water re-use became a strong point. However the founda-tion of the design is given by the youth. The futu-re users of the place shall manage the structure following the line of its design. The choice of a circular structure is to create a contrast betweenthe sameness of the surroundings and this new design. In order to engage the youth an attracti-ve place shall be made, the drawings following in the next pages are not an arriving point but some of the suggestion made to design, mainta-in, evolve and enjoy the place. As the competi-tion underlined the youth shall be the heart of it.

2010FOLDNES

AIMDesign a new cemetery for Foldnes municipality.

SITENorth-west of Bergen, the area is approximately3 Hectares, partially ooded during heavy rain.Boulders and scarce vegetation are covering the swampy land, giving a scenic view on the lake.

DESIGNThe biggest challenge is given by the distancefrom the local Church. During ceremonies the sitehas to be accessible for the transport of the Deceased, a long smooth wooden bridge shallconnect the new cemetery to the Church's mainentrance. The bridge may also be used by peopleas this crosses over an existing path. An additionalstructure shall be linked to create a view point over the lake for the visitors. The graveyard is plan-ned for over one thousand graves. The existing terrain level shall rise of 2 metres to avoid oods.
