Overall Goals

1. Gain privacy in front and backyard

2. Diverse set of plants in both species and form that provide

year round interest

3. Minimize “unsightly” views from neighbors/roundabout/street

4. Personalize our home so it isn’t as “cookie-cutter”

5. Increase home value by adding utility to areas of our

property

* Not necessarily in order of priority

Page 5: Landscape

Region 1

1. Height: 30-40'

2. Width: 40-35'

3. Exposure: Sun

4. Water: Tolerates damp or

dry soils

5. Hardiness: USDA Zones 4-9

6. Pruning: Prune only when

dormant during winter.

Purpose: I would like to use this area for an increased sense of

privacy from our neighbors behind us. We would like what’s

planted here to provide some shade in our backyard as well.

Plan: I would like to place two River Birch (Betula nigra) trees

here spaced about 8-10 feet apart. Because our backyard is

sloped the rain water drains here. Also, our gutter drain would

be on a path to directly pour water towards the trees to keep we

feet.

Region 3 Purpose: This area would be used to somewhat block areas of

our neighborhood on the back side. Desired height of 20-45

feet.

Possibilties: Various Crepe Myrtle species to form a colorful

canopy for sitting beneath

1. Height – 20 – 25 ft

2. Spread - 10 – 20 ft

Natchez Miami Twilight

1. Height – 20 – 25 ft

2. Spread - 10 – 15 ft

1. Height – 20 – 30 ft

2. Spread - 20 ft Hoping for this

type of canopy

effect

Region 4 Purpose: This area is purely to add visual interest to our yard

along the wall.

1. Height – 10 ft

2. Spread - 10 ft

Page 9: Landscape

Region 5 Purpose: This area is intended to help block some of the view

of the roundabout view from our front yard. We recognize this

won’t hide all of it.

Plan: Several Gardenia (Gardenia augusta) in somewhat of a

circle pattern with an opening in the back for access to electric

box and light.

1. Height – 3 - 6 ft

2. Spread – 3 - 6 ft

Page 10: Landscape

Region 6 Purpose: This area is intended to provide some shade in the

front yard and give a little more privacy from our neighbors. Also

our view from our front door while inside currently consists of

the road only and neighbors house. So something here that

could also provide a view from inside would be great.

Plan: Go with an October Glory Maple to help tie in the front

and backyard assuming I go with one there.

1. Family Acer rubrum 'October Glory'

2. Foliage Green

3. Mature Height 25 - 50 feet

4. Mature Spread 25 - 35 feet

5. Soil Widely Adaptable

Region 7 Purpose: This area is intended to provide interest while walking

to the front of our house. Also it part of it needs to be visible

from our front door to make our view more aesthetically

pleasing. So I plan to extend this area in a triangular form

towards our walkway.

Plan: A weeping cherry, possibly a Japanese Maple and other

miscellaneous TBD items.

Page 12: Landscape

Region 8 Purpose: This area is to provide visual interest along the west

side of our hose. Also whatever cooling affects it has on the

house will be a plus.

Plan: Several Gardenia (Gardenia augusta) in a linear pattern

along the wall. Could also do Abelia here.

1. Height – 3 - 6 ft

2. Spread – 3 - 6 ft
