Plain: flat land

Hill: slightly- raised land (with earth & stone underneath)

Mountain- a huge hill of rock formed by the movement of the Earth’s plates

Plateau : high, flat-topped mountain

Mesa: means ‘table’ in spanish; a small plateau

Valley: dip between two mountains

Canyon: a valley between two high ridges formed by water or ice erosion

Spring: underground water supply that comes up

Island- land surrounded by water

Peninsula- land that juts out surrounded by water on 3 sides

Coral reef- a wall of coral that pokes above the water near the drop-off zone in tropical waters

Atoll- a coral reef surrounding a lagoon

Delta- place where the river empties into the ocean

Seamount- a mountain under the ocean

Trench- long depression in the ocean floor

Gulf – water surrounded by land on three sides
