Purpose

• Understand that land-use decisions may not always be carefully thought through.

• Recognize that most types of land use may have unwanted or negative environmental results.

• Understand the relationship between the development of shopping centers and the decline of central business districts.

Procedure

1. Decide as a group what mall to go to.

2. Ask the people in the mall questions given by teacher in class.

3. We asked the people in the mall politely and thanked them when they were down the interview, and even if they did not what to be interviewed.

4. We came together as a group and gathered our results together.

5. Before leaving the mall we used our clinometers to measure the trees around the mall.

Questions

1. Most of the responses did seem to be positive about the mall, but did agree that more construction could be added to the area

2. They cited that there were too many teenagers and that the traffic wasn’t the best.

3. There was some traffic in the area and since the mall was built, there was a loss of habitat because, before there was trees and animals present

4. The mall brings some excitement within the community. The response stated that before there was not much to do

5. They can come up with more rules and regulations that are more strict and inform the community to get more interaction, which could be big help

6. Several shopping centers, are better than one because it may become crowded in on large shopping center and several shopping centers have a variety and may be more convenient for others.

7. If we were to be the designers of the mall, some factors that we would incorporate will be things that attract attention such as magicians or illusionists as well as comedians.

Analysis

1. The estimated total area 1,162,000 feet sq.

2. The average height in trees is about 165.6 cm tall

3. The trees are planted in beds and some have wood chips and some have flowers around them.

4. When we were in the Macy's department store the parking lot was filled with 45% of cars

5. The sewer.

6. Yes, the are is aesthetically pleasing, but it needs more landscape and construction. The area could use more colorful trees.

7. No, there were not roads there before the mall was built. Yes, there were roads built to accommodate the additional traffic.

8. Stone Crest mall has 114 stores in its mall. Most of the stores in the mall are clothing and shoe stores, they have a lot of jewelry stores as well.

9 . It is evident that the mall was built on open field land, were trees and animals lived.

10. Yes, it is evident that large trees were removed for the shopping center.

11. Geese and deer are the main types of wildlife present at the mall.
