C A L I F O R N I A B A P T I S T U N I V E R S I T Y
On behalf of our outstanding student-athletes, coaches, and staff, I want to thank you for your interest
in the Lancer Athletics Association (LAA). The LAA is the fundraising arm of Lancer Athletics. Whether
you are a long-time supporter or a first-time donor, I want to emphasize the importance of your
decision to be member of the LAA. Every dollar donated directly impacts our student-athletes. The
funds that are raised support capital projects, recruiting efforts, facility improvements and scholarships.
The mission of our athletic program is to Honor Christ through Excellence in Athletics. The LAA
campaign requests the support of alumni, family and fans. This is a special invitation to join the LAA
and become the TEAM BEHIND THE TEAM with Lancer Athletics and the 19 varsity programs. With
your support, we will continue to be a model of excellence on the field of play, in the classroom and in
our community.

Why we need your support• Private support assists CBU to recruit and train
elite student-athletes in quality facilities, provide scholarships and compete with peer institutions.
• CBU has committed to provide student-athlete scholarships to the full amount allowed by the NCAA. As tuition increases so does our scholarship cost. This makes it important to grow our funding through private donations.
Why now? • Lancer Athletics will join NCAA Division I in 2018.
As the level of competition rises with this move, so do the level of costs. In preparation to have immediate success competing in Division I, we are looking for greater support.
• Lancer Athletics must generate sufficient revenue to compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics.
• Athletics is often seen as the University’s “front porch.” Financial stability in athletics ultimately creates success resulting in pride within the
community and among our many alumni and friends.

Starting in the 2018–19 season, all 19 CBU athletic programs will be leaving NCAA Division II and making
the jump to NCAA Division I, with 14 programs joining the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). This
remarkable leap forward, coming after only six years at the Division II level, is propelled by our continued
growth and the extraordinary success of our programs. CBU will become a member institution of the WAC
effective July 1, 2018.
