School Strategic Plan. Our staff continue their work in Professional Learning Teams (PLTs). These are small teams of teachers working collaboratively on matters directly related to learning and thus leading to higher levels of student achievement. I would like to remind parents that our Year 11&12 Study Centre has been open from the beginning of the year and this new double storey building continues to provide our students with a fantastic environment to work in before, during and after school hours and also houses our Year 11&12 Co-ordination teams. Of particular importance to parents are our Student Coordination arrangements. The central role of Team Leaders and Coordinators is to work with students and families to ensure students are happy and successful at school. These teams are led and overseen by an Assistant Principal and Leading Teacher. Year 10: Assistant Principal- Belinda Davidson Leading Teacher – Jess McCartney Co-ordinators – Anthony Cotroneo, Carlos Santander, Adrian Maiorana, Naomi Olthof Year 11: Assistant Principal- Michael Gruis Leading Teacher – Jye Ledin Co-ordinators – Marianne Gualtieri, Alanna Doherty, Kate Hollins Year 12: Assistant Principal- Jennifer Warne Leading Teacher – Chris Egan Co-ordinators – Toni Furolo, Michelle Clark, Jo Foley VCAL Leading Teacher – Melanie Brooks Co-ordinator – Emma Brown Finally, can I invite all parents to carefully consider nominating for one of the open parent places on our 2020 School Council. Nomination forms are available at the Lakeview office. I hope that 2020 will be an enjoyable and rewarding year for students and staff alike. I am happy to meet with parents or guardians to discuss your child’s learning and to hear your feedback. If you would like to take the opportunity to meet with me please contact our office on 9219 3100 to make an appointment. YEAR 12 PHYSICAL EDUCATION On Monday the 11th of February our Year 12 Physical Education students were invited to complete workshops in the state of the art Biomechanics and Exercise Physiology laboratory’s at Victoria University – Footscray Park Campus. Students participated in a qualitative and quantitative analysis pf physical movement in the Biomechanics laboratory where they were able to compare their movement to elite athletes. In the Exercise Physiology laboratory students participated and collected real time data on both the Wingate Anaerobic Power test and the VO2 max test. Sebit Ngong, Jamie Ristoski, Angela Stankovic and Morrison Fatafehi all received incredible results.

On Friday 28th February, Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their student wellbeing performance 'Cyberia' for Year 10 students. 'Cyberia' is a live theatre experience that addresses mental health, (cyber)bullying, impulse control and the responsible use of technology. Anxious and struggling with impulse control, Ruby is in danger of damaging her digital reputation. For Ruby's brother Tim, a lack of sleep and social interaction lead to mistakes, scams and misunderstandings online. He becomes isolated and withdraws into gaming. Tim and Ruby must restore their dignity, privacy and relationships if they are to find their way back from Cyberia. 'Cyberia' is part of our student wellbeing curriculum and has been developed by education and mental health professionals. Real student experiences are woven together to create a compelling narrative and theatrical experience. The performance poses questions about how we treat ourselves and others, both online and offline, and encourages resilience and positive relationships. If you would like to know more about Brainstorm Productions, you can visit their website: brainstormproductions.edu.au, or their Facebook page: facebook.com/Brainstorm.Productions.

ATTENDANCE Lakeview Senior College expects students to attend all scheduled class time to maximise their learning and academic performance. This is in line with our school values of respect, responsibility and personal achievement. It has been pleasing to see that the majority of students have attended every single class so far this year. All the educational research on attendance shows that attendance is the most important factor that leads to academic success. Arriving at school on time (prior to 8.50am) is also important as it allows each student to maximise learning. Year Level Coordinators will be calling parents of students who are regularly late to school. If your son/daughter is unwell and cannot attend school or are required to leave early the following steps are required Notify the school (preferably in advance) if a student is to be absent from school on the Lakeview Senior College Absence Number – 9219 3100

PARENT PAYMENT POLICY When you send your child to a government school, there may be some costs involved. Your child’s school can ask for payments for the materials and services your child uses at school. School councils are responsible for developing and approving a policy for their school around fees and family contributions.

We at Lakeview Senior College have kept these costs to a minimum and request that all payments listed on your Financial Statement be met. Should you have difficulty in meeting these expectations, please do not hesitate to contact the office or your year level co-ordinator.

Categories: This table describes the three parent payment categories that school councils can request payments from parents.

Essential Education Items These are items which parents/guardians pay the school to provide or may provide themselves, if appropriate. These items are essential to support instruction in the standard curriculum program and include:

materials that the individual student takes possession of, such as text books and student stationery

materials for learning and teaching where the student consumes or takes possession of the finished articles (e.g. food technology, photography, catering)

school uniform (where applicable)

activities associated with, but not part of instruction in the standard curriculum program, such as costs associated with camps and excursions which all students are expected to attend (e.g. transport and entrance costs).

Page 6: LAKEVIEW SENIOR COLLEGE NEWSLETTER · LAKEVIEW SENIOR COLLEGE NEWSLETTER Number 1 2020 Respect Responsibility Personal Achievement PRINCIPAL REPORT TERM ONE (9 WEEKS) Tues 28th Jan

Note: If parents/guardians choose to provide equivalent materials themselves, this should be done in consultation with the school, and items should meet the specifications provided by the school. However, there are some items (e.g. food provisions for Food Technology) which, due to their nature, can only be provided by the school.

Optional Extras

These are items provided in addition to the standard curriculum program, and are offered to all students. They are provided on a user-pays basis and if parents/guardians choose to access them for students, they will be required to pay for them. These items include: instructional support material, resources and administration in addition to the standard curriculum program (e.g. student computer printing for personal use)

extra-curricular programs or activities offered in addition to the standard curriculum program (e.g. instrumental music)

school-based performances, productions and events

materials for subjects where the payment sought is the difference between the basic materials/services required for access to the standard curriculum program and higher cost alternatives which may be more desirable (e.g. the use of more expensive materials) materials and services offered in addition to the standard curriculum program (e.g. school magazines)

School facilities and equipment not associated with providing the standard curriculum program, and not otherwise provided for through the SRP (e.g. student accident insurance, and hire or lease of equipment such as musical instruments).

Voluntary financial contributions

Parents/guardians, or anyone else, can be invited to make a donation to the school for the following purposes:

contributions to a building trust fund or contributions to a library trust fund (these trust funds are approved by the Australian Taxation Office and are tax deductible)

Contributions for a specific purpose identified by the school (e.g. equipment, materials or services) in addition to those funded through the SRP. This may include additional computers or student-related services

General voluntary financial contributions or donations to the school.

Further Information can be found at www.lakeviewcollege.vic.edu.au

UNIFORM

Uniform is considered important and is compulsory at Lakeview Senior College.

The uniform policy has been ratified by the School Council. Please see the attachment below to view the current uniform policy.
