Kristina’s KornerHave a question about the community or surrounding area?

Ever wonder about new development or want opinions on good restaurants or entertainment venues in the area? Send your questions to [email protected] and I’ll do my best to find out the answers!

A SUMMER STAPLE IN TEXAS, BBQ HAS BECOME A PRETTY COVETED COMMODITY.

Q: Are there any good BBQ restaurants in our area?

A: There is commercial property everywhere you look it seems and I know we often wonder what the space will be in a year from now. Here’s some insight into a few venues coming soon! Whole Foods has announced that they will erect a store at Fry Rd. and the Grand

weak or washed out. Instead, if you’re scheduling pictures then plan around sweet light – early morning or late evening. By having the sun in the lower hemisphere of the sky, you can work in a variety of situations without dramatic shadows, squinting eyes and harsh lines.

If your pictures aren’t planned try to find a shady area to remedy the lighting issues on a bright day. This will diffuse the light and create better color saturation. However, avoid using trees as shade; sunlight shining through leaves can create sunspots, which are nearly impossible to edit out. If shade isn’t an option, use your flash to help decrease some of the shadows in the photo. If there are clouds in the sky try to wait till the sun moves behind a cloud to take a portrait, which creates a filtered light that is wonderful for photos. And, as a rule of thumb, never have the sun directly behind the subject; instead try to have the sun behind the photographer.

No More Blurry PhotosTrying to get pictures of active children is like trying to catch a fish

with your bare hands. They move fast. Even in posed shots where children are, in theory, sitting still, there can be movement of little heads, hands and feet.

It’s a good idea to make use of your camera’s sports setting when photographing children. The sports setting increases the camera’s shutter speed to make it more likely you’ll get a good picture of fast-moving subjects.

You can also depress the shutter button halfway to allow your camera to focus before you’re ready to take the picture. Hold it in that position until your subject is ready, and then quickly press the shutter. Check your camera’s manual to learn more about the sports setting and auto focusing.

These simple tips can increase your chances of getting great photos of your children this spring and summer and help you say good-bye to blurry, too bright pictures.

Parkway which will be convenient for food lovers and health nuts. Academy Sports and Outdoors will build a new store at FM 723 and Spring Green Blvd along with a new Kroger Shopping Center. The addition of Sports Authority and Party City are complete in the Bella Terra shopping Center at Hwy 99 and Bellaire Blvd. And the most interesting commercial addition to our area has to be the Santikos Palladium with 22 screens and in theatre restaurants. This new attraction is planned for the NE corner of Hwy 99 and Morton/West Belfort near the Long Meadow Farms community. I’ll keep my eye out for more development coming soon!
