Essentials of Lionism
WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A LION: Lions are men and
women dedicated to serving those in need, whether in their own
community or halfway around the world. Membership in a Lions
club provides people with the opportunity to meet and work with
other individuals in a spirit of fellowship, striving toward the
common goal of helping those in need. Through their mutual
concern of others, members have the opportunity’ to improve
both their local and world communities and develop valuable
personal and professional skills.
New members are expected to give freely of their time and en-
ergy whenever possible. They are expected to attend club meet-
ings, be available for committee assignments. be knowledgeable
about the aims and objectives of Lions aid to support club officers.
BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP: The benefits of Lions clubs membership are numerous, and include:
* The unparalleled satisfaction of helping those in need.
* Making a difference in your community.
* Having an impact on those in need worldwide.
* Developing leadership skills.
* Enhancing communication skills.
* Utilizing planning and organization skills.
* Working hands-on to meet community needs.
* Meeting new people — from your community and abroad.
* Opportunities to network.
* Opportunities to travel.

Our new Lion Vernon Reher had approached me about a month ago with the possibility of getting a club pageon Facebook. His thoughts were that this social networking device would be a great way to reach out to ourFacebook friends and promote our fundraisers, events, and programs. Near or far your friends will be ex-posed to the Lions Club and learn of our charitable programs and how they can help the Lions Club even ifthey're not in the Lago Vista area. I believe that Facebook would generate additional interest in our club'sactivities, membership and possibly attract a younger audience. This will also be a great opportunity for clubmembers to interact with one another on a day to day basis unlike e-mail. Additionally, this forum will give thepublic a chance to easily voice their views and suggestions of how the club might be able to help those inneed or what they liked or didn't like about one of our activities.
The page will not be restricted to just one or two Lions putting up a post but, will give every Lago Lion theability to promote an activity they are involved in (i.e. golf tournament, blood drive, BBQ team activities, eyeglass recycling, LEO Club etc.). The page will be monitored by Lion Vernon to ensure that no inappropriateposts are made. Although this is primarily to promote Lago Lions it does not restrict anyone from making acomment or asking a question about our Lions Club International activities.
Once you have an account on Facebook or presently have an account go to our page and "click" on the"Become a Fan" link this will show a listing of all Lago Vista Lions Club Fan page fans.
The link to our Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/Lago-Vista-Lions-Fan-Page/372074560441?ref=ts
