Two-time National Coach of the Year Rob Patrick has developed a tradition of excellence since coming to Tennessee 13 years ago. Following his arrival at Rocky Top, Patrick has become one of the nation’s top coaches and helped the Lady Vols attain levels of success never before reached in Knoxville, as evidenced by NCAA Tournament berthsinfiveofthelastsixyears,includingaruntotheFinalFourin2005. His nine-year stretch of winning seasons from 1998-2006 marks the longest-such run in program history, topping the previous high of seven, set from 1978-84. The Big Orange has won 20 or more matches in six of the last eight campaigns. Prior to Patrick’s arrival at UT in 1997, the Lady Vols last recorded a 20-win season in 1988. Patrick joined the UT program in July of 1997 after spending the
previous three seasons as an assistant coach with national powerhouse Stanford. From 1994 to 1996, he helped lead the Cardinal to a combined 92-6 record and two NCAA championships, including title-game victories over UCLA and Hawaii in 1994 and 1996, respectively. During that stint, Stanford never lost a home match en route to participating in the 1995 NCAA Final Four and winning three consecutive Pac-10 titles.
When Tennessee volleyball coach Rob Patrick was a walk-on quarterback and captain of the volleyball team at Miami University, he was surrounded by a coaching tradition that hasbeena“hugeinfluenceonhiscareer.” Longknownas the“CradleofCoaches”for its uncanny ability to produce high-caliber coaches, Miami served as training grounds for such greats as Woody Hayes, Bo Schembechler, PaulBrownandEarl“Red”Blaik, in additionto the roughly one hundred Miami of Ohio graduates who currently coach at the collegiate or professional level. With six NCAA tournament appearances and an SEC title of his own, Patrick is already UT’s all-time wins leader with 288 in 14 years as head coach. Continuing Miami’s tradition of producing future generations of coaches, at least 15 Lady Vols players and assistants have gone on to coach after their time with Patrick.

FOWLER REACHES MILESTONE MARK With a 20-kill, 15-dig effort against Louisville on Oct. 27, Nikki Fowler recorded the 50th double-double of her career. In those50matchesTennesseehada33-17 record. She notched 12 in her freshman year, seven her sophomore season, 19 during her junior campaign and has a team-high 12 so far this year. All but two of the double-double have been a combination of kills and digs. She tallied a kill-assist double-double against Notre Dame on Nov. 23, 2007 and picked up the only triple-double in school history (19 kills, 19 assists, 18 digs) at Ole Miss on Nov. 2 of that same year. The only Lady Vol with more double-doubles in the past decade is Julie Knytych who had 61 from 2002-05. FOWLER MAKES HISTORY (TAKE ONE) Arguably the greatest all-around player in Tennessee history, senior Nikki Fowler became just the fourth player in program annals to hit the 1,000 mark in both kills and digs with nine scoops against Florida State on Sept. 4.
FOWLER MAKES HISTORY (TAKE TWO) As Nikki Fowler continues to inch her way up the UT career kill and dig charts, she doesn’t have anywhere else to go on the total attacks list, as she took over the top spot during the Lady Vols’ victory at Auburn on Sept. 26. Fowler’s career attacks total currently sits at 4,260, surpassing the previous mark of 3,881 set byArianaWilsonfrom1998-2001.Sheisthefirstplayer to take more than 4,000 career swings while wearing the Orange and White.
FOWLER MAKES HISTORY (TAKE THREE) ̀ UT senior Nikki Fowler recently broke a tie with Florida’s Aury Cruz for the most career SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors in league history by picking up her conference-best eighth on Sept. 7. Even more impressive is the fact that all eight of Fowler’s awards have come in the last three years alone, including an unprecedented three straight during one stetch in 2009.

UT HISTORY IN HOME OpENERS Throughout the years, the University of Tennessee volleyball team has amassed a stellar 27-5 (.844) record in home openers, including a 3-0 triumph over Xavier on Aug. 27 this season. During the Rob Patrick era, the Lady Vols have been even better with an 13-1 (.929) mark in his 13 years at the helm. The lone loss during that span was to LSU on Sept. 21, 2001. This season marked just the fourth time in the past 20 years that the Big Orange has opened the season at home. Before starting off last season at home with a sweep of Tennessee Tech, the Big Orange last did it in 2006 when it welcomed Virginia, Centenary and Miami (Ohio) to Knoxville for the Comcast Lady Vol Classic. Prior to that, UT had not opened a campaign at home since it hosted Chattanooga on Sept. 6, 1991.
LADY VOLS ON TV The University of Tennessee volleyball team will be featured on national television a school-record six times this season. That is one more than last year and is the most in conference history. All matches will be broadcast live. ESPNU reaches over 73 million homes, FSN reaches 25 million and CSS/CST reaches 10 million homes.

REpLACING THE BEST Tennessee faces the unenviable task of finding a replacement for the best defensive player in school history this season, following the graduation of all-time digs leader Chloe Goldman. An AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, the 2009 Southeastern Conference Libero of the Year and an All-SEC First Team member, Goldman shattered the Tennessee record for career digs, finishing with a total of 1,755 to break the previous record by 281 and place her fourth in theconferencerecordbook.Shealsofinishedhercollegiate career with the top digs per set average in program history with 4.37 scoops per set during her four years at Rocky Top. ““It seems like Tennessee always plays their best volleyball in the second half of the SEC, which I think is a testament to great coaching. They also have two of the premier offensive players in the league.”
— Florida Head Coach Mary Wise
“Our fans got to see one of the premier players not only in the league, but also in the country. Nikki Fowler is a terrific talent and obviously gave us fits as she has for her entire career. When a player is that good and she starts from her freshman year, by their senior year they are just so difficult to defend. “
— Florida Head Coach Mary Wise
“(Tennessee’s defense) is definitely frustrat-ing especially as a hitter. You think you’re hit-ting these really great shots and then they keep bringing the ball back.”
— Florida junior Kelly Murphy
“At Tennessee, we just ran into a buzzsaw. They played absolutely phenomenally well on all cylinders. In my opinion, they are still the best team in the conference...We hit them on the wrong night.”
— Auburn Head Coach Wade Benson
“Tennessee is a very good team with a lot of options. They are a little different to scheme for because of where their setters and opposites play. I think that gave us a little trouble...We just couldn’t get them slowed down and it seemed to effect our spirit.”
— South Carolina Head Coach Ben Somera
“We knew Tennessee would be tough...They remind me of our team last year where we had most of the team returning.”
— Florida State Head Coach Chris Poole
“Tennessee poses a very difficult matchup for any team in our conference. They have four players at the pins that can put the ball away.”
- Alabama Head Coach Judy Green
