A Message from the Principal

Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends of La Salle Institute,

Eighteen years ago and after a successful 22 year Army career, I was hired by Brother James Romond to be the Senior Army Instructor for our JROTC Leadership Program. A year later, I took on additional duties as Assistant Principal. Nearly five months ago, I had the good fortune of becoming Principal of our great school. I thank the Board of Trustees for giving me the opportunity and having the confidence in my abilities to continue the mission and traditions of the Christian Brothers.

I took this position because I believe in what La Salle Institute provides for our students and I cherish what La Salle provided for me. I took this position because I know the quality of our staff and faculty and the quality and determination of our students. Looking at the big picture, I am very confident that we are setting ourselves up for future success. However, I also know that without ongoing financial support from our alumni and friends, our ability to continue our success becomes more challenging.

There is nothing I value more when it comes to La Salle Institute than our history, tradition, faith based education, reputation, belief in developing future leaders, service to the community and our students. We must and will always be proud of our history and tradition. However, I also believe that we cannot solely depend on our past success and reputation. While we continue to honor, appreciate, and cherish the finest standards and traditions of La Salle Institute and the Christian Brothers, I also expect us to develop a new and more positive reputation in academics, in athletics, in extracurricular activities, in our leadership program and in our Lasallian values.

Our goal is to become more modern and in tune with today’s students and their perspective on life. We all know that academics are critical, however, we must also focus on developing well rounded students and leaders who are well educated, self-disciplined and self-confident to make decisions, solve problems, create things and be successful in whatever they do. We are focused on being a student centered school, accomplishing our mission on a daily basis by engaging with our students in a loving, caring and supportive environment.

I am very excited about what we have accomplished in getting ready for this academic year. I am confident that you, as alumni and friends, will be pleased with what we are about to do together to make La Salle Institute even better. As I’ve told our staff and faculty, I will do my very best to ensure that 5, 10, or God willing 15 to 20 years from now, I will be proud to return here, to this place, for a homecoming football game, or an alumni dinner, or any event that brings me back to La Salle Institute, and like you, I will know my contributions made a difference.

I hope that you and your families are doing well. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns, questions or ideas at [email protected]. I would love to hear from you.

With warm regards, best wishes and sincere thanks,

Joseph B. Raczkowski ‘72Principal

P.S. We are also developing plans for major short and long term improvements to our athletic and academic facilities.

A Message From the Middle School Principal

Dear Alumni & Friends,

I am exceptionally proud to report that our Middle School continues to spiral upward and reach new heights. A true “school within a school,” our students are remarkably special and our faculty is incredibly gifted. There is nothing more powerful than a dedicated group of teachers who understand and appreciate the “Middle School Years.” The true runway to young adulthood - the Middle School continues to flourish and holds the distinction of being a school where every young man experiences success in some way.

Our boys are remarkable. They are dedicated to their studies and also focused on representing their school, their families and themselves in the right way. Aside from providing an outstanding and challenging academic curriculum - our focus remains on building the “entire student” as we discuss proper leadership, character and decision making on a daily basis. We provide our boys with weekly Character Challenges that give them a specific focus for their week. We

also recognize our students for their positive decision making and positive choices. As I write to you today, we are preparing for our first honors assembly of the school year, where we award students for their outstanding effort, improvement and performance in the classroom.

We are pleased to have launched several new programs in the last few years that continue to create a stronger and better school. Our Navigators program illuminates student and teacher relationships and sets up students who deal with different challenges with their favorite faculty member for mentoring. Additionally, our Middle School Student Leadership Council, made up of seven 8th Grade students, serves as the voice of our students and provides great leadership to our school. Finally, our newly formed Adventure Club provides opportunities for our students to learn various survival skills taught by an instructor at Dyken Pond.

I invite you all to come and experience our Middle School. Feel free to drop in on a Monday morning assembly, held each Monday morning at 8:00 AM in the cafeteria. Do not hesitate to check out our upcoming Science Fair or be involved in our speaker series. The more former students that we can expose our young people to, the more valuable their La Salle experience will be.

I thank you for your support of La Salle Institute and look forward to seeing you back on campus very soon.

Go Cadets!

Sincerely,

Mr. Steven M. SgambelluriMiddle School Principal

Letter from the Director of Advancement

Dear Alumni and Friends of La Salle,

If you had told me six weeks ago that I would be writing this letter today as the Director of Institutional Advancement and Business at La Salle Institute, I would have been very surprised. That is only because I have been blessed and happy to be the Director of Finance at La Salle for over four years, since April 2013 when I joined this special family, hired by former Principal Brother Carl Malacalza. At that time I didn’t know much about La Salle, although I live locally and had great respect for the school’s reputation and long history, but in those four years I am so proud to say that I have grown to love our school.

So I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce myself briefly and explain why and how I came to this place, doing this important job for this community that means so much to me. When I began my time here, two of my three children were well into their high school years, and my youngest son was in 6th Grade. I felt so comfortable walking the halls with Brother Carl, I had boys in both 6th and 12th Grades so these young men felt very familiar to me. Considering a move from the corporate world to a more personal place where I could feel I was making a difference is what moved me most. I was happy to take on the finance role and have enjoyed that job, allowing me to meet and get to know the wonderful faculty and staff of La Salle.

At the same time, I decided my youngest son might just love it here, too. This was out of the normal course for our family, my husband and I went to public schools as did our oldest children, but I wanted him to give it a look. From the time he visited and then shadowed, he was hooked. He is a happy 11th Grade student now, a JROTC officer and basketball and football player with many friends and his own reasons to love his school.

La Salle has been part of the Troy community for 167 years and I personally believe that some of our best years are ahead of us. There is a great energy and enthusiasm in the building right now, and I am happy and look forward to working closely with Principal Joe Raczkowski, ’72, and our faculty and staff as we make La Salle better than ever. Please know that your generosity helps to fuel us as we use donations to continue to build and improve upon our academics, athletics, and scholarship offerings. Please also know that my door is always open, I would love for you to visit the school or contact me by phone or email. And I wish you all, our extended La Salle family, peace, good health and a joyful holiday season.

Warm Regards,

Karen VanRoy

Fellow Alumni of La Salle Institute and Dear Friends of La Salle Institute:

Twenty years ago, a classmate asked if I could spend “a few hours” on behalf of the Annual Fund. Those few hours became a decades-long journey that witnessed the growth of the school, graduation of hundreds of bright, energetic students and the evolution to a lay faculty. Yet, the La Salle traditions remain. It has become increasingly apparent, however, that financial support from the Alumni plays an important, even critical, role in the continued success of the school.

I can relate one instance, in particular, where the admission of a talented young student depended upon financial assistance. The Principal and others “went the last mile” to see that this young man would be able to attend and he graduated with several academic scholarship offers. Personally, I can think of no better use of a charitable donation than to see its direct result and to receive, in return, a simple heartfelt “Thank You.”

Looking forward, we are fortunate to have the continued services of LTC Nicholas M. Laiacona, US Army, Retired, Class of 1962. He has re-invigorated the Alumni Association and his Class has recently pledged $62,000 over a five-year period. Nick, along with Grace Reuter of the Advancement Office and others have organized numerous successful functions including ones to honor those who have served in our Armed Forces or have otherwise exemplified the best of our traditions by their service to the community and the school itself. Other events such as Class Reunions, Homecoming and the Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner continue to rekindle the spirit and help reconnect classmates with the school.

Please consider a tax-deductible donation between now and year-end. While many good things are happening at La Salle, your continued support is truly needed.

Sincerely,

Edward P. Ryan ‘65Chair Annual Giving CommitteeLa Salle Institute Alumni Association

Honoring the Memory of Major James J. O’Donovan ‘28

On April 25, 2017 five soldiers from the 42nd Infantry Division of the New York National Guard participated in the Bataan Memorial Death March in White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The soldiers marched 26 miles with ruck sacks in honor of those who did the same in 1942. Major James J. O’Donovan graduated from La Salle Institute in 1928 and was the La Salle PMS&T teacher from 1939 to 1941. Major O’Donovan was a survivor of the Bataan Death March and later died in a Japanese prison camp. Major O’Donovan received the Distinguished Service Cross (the next highest award for valor after the Medal of Honor) for extraordinary heroism in combat while serving in the Philippines.

On April 25 the Capital District of NY Chapter of the Association of the US Army (AUSA), the Headquarters of the 42nd Infantry Division and the La Salle Alumni Association conducted a ceremony at La Salle to thank the soldiers who marched and pay tribute to Major O’Donovan. The O’Donovan Rifles performed. The Ceremony was streamed live on the internet and was viewed by the O’Donovan family.

Veterans, soldiers and members of the La Salle Institute Administration gathered to honor an alumnus and great hero. The photo of Major O’Donovan and the display of military honors are the generous donations of Colonel (R) and Mrs. John Kennedy ‘40.

The many military honors bestowed upon Major O’Donovan.

Alumni Association Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner

On June 13, 2017 the Alumni Association held its Annual Meeting and Awards Dinner. It was a tremendous success. There were 66 La Salle Institute alumni, staff, faculty, family and friends in attendance. The highlight of the evening was the honoring of three outstanding individuals. Young Alumni Awards were presented to Kevin Flike ’02 and Shane Hendry ’06. Jack Kenyon, retired faculty member, received the Honorary Alumnus Award.

Kevin Flike ’02 received the Young Alumni Award and is a member of the La Salle Athletic Hall of Fame. Kevin is a Union College graduate and served in the US Army Special Forces with two tours in Afghanistan. Kevin was wounded on his second tour and was medically retired in September 2013. Kevin has an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Business and a Masters in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard

University. He is employed at Goldman Sachs.

Shane Hendry ’06 received the Young Alumni Award and was the President of his class at La Salle Institute. Shane was twice recognized as an All-Big Ten and All-Area selection in lacrosse. Shane is a Manhattan College graduate where he played lacrosse. Shane served as Assistant Director of Institutional Advancement at La Salle early in his career. He studied management at Durham University (UK)

Business School and earned his Masters in 2014. He was a member of the University’s National Champion Lacrosse Club. In 2016 Shane returned to La Salle Institute and is currently serving as the Director of Admissions and International Programs.

Jack Kenyon received the Honorary Alumnus Award. Jack taught at La Salle Institute from 1967 - 2014 and was well liked by all. He coached basketball and baseball at La Salle Institute and was selected as the Lasallian Educator of the

Year in 1992 and 2004 and was also the recipient of the Walmart Teacher of the Year Award. Jack continues to support La Salle Institute as a moderator of our Bible Club.

The Homecoming Barbecue on Friday, September 22, 2017 was a tremendous success. We hosted over 100 alumni, families, faculty and staff. The evening began with tours of the school conducted by our Cadet Officers followed by a delicious barbecue dinner in the Commons. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with friends and classmates from near and far!

Class ReunionsThe classes of 1962, 1967 and 2007 celebrated their respective reunions with golf outings, boat trips, informal and formal get-togethers during Homecoming weekend, September 21 – 24, 2017.

Class of 1962 celebrated their 55th Reunion with a dinner at Moscatiello’s Italian Restaurant following a Mass at the La Salle Institute Chapel. Jack Weaver ’55, Jerry Brehm ’55 and La Salle Institute Principal Joseph Raczkowski ’72 were honored guests at the dinner. A candlelight ceremony was held for deceased members of the class followed by reflections on faculty and staff

(1958–1962). A Tribute was given to the five Alumni who died in Vietnam and Vietnam War Era Lapel Pins were awarded to classmates.

Class of 1967 celebrated their 50th Reunion with informal gatherings at The Purple Pub on Friday and Frear Park Pub on Saturday.

Class of 2007 celebrated their 10th Reunion with an informal gathering at Brown’s Brewery.

On September 23, I had the pleasure and privilege of speaking at the Class of 1962 Reunion Dinner. I can’t remember the last time that I attended such a special event. The atmosphere was heartwarming as these graduates paid tribute to classmates that have passed, those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and still others who served our country in times of war. Then and at the very end, they paid further tribute with interesting reflections on the Brothers and lay teachers responsible for their education while they attended La Salle. To top it all off, they made an Annual Fund pledge to contribute $62,000 towards the future of our school. These 32 graduates believe in La Salle Institute even 55 years after graduation. This was a wonderful evening and I was extremely honored to be a part of it. We all need to follow their example and share their convictions as we move forward.

Gavin O’Brien ‘11

My name is Gavin O’Brien and I am a 2011 graduate of La Salle Institute. I earned my Doctorate of Pharmacy degree from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2017. I have been so incredibly blessed, and I cannot say enough about the foundation that my experiences at La Salle Institute have laid for me to excel in college and beyond. Now I work as a pharmacist in Chinle, Arizona serving the people of Navajo Nation.

I can still remember so many outstanding moments from La Salle: from competing in Nationals in Florida with the O’Donovan Drill Team, to running cross country dual-meets against CBA and CCHS, to Bible Club on Wednesdays. I will never forget those days and the lessons I learned at La Salle Institute - the importance of being on time, maintaining my

integrity and giving time for community service to those most needy.

One of my most influential role models was Cross Country Coach/Chemistry Teacher Mr. John Leonard. Mr. Leonard not only coached me for countless seasons of cross country and track, he also was so passionate during chemistry class that he allowed me to discover my love of science and helped me find my niche for serving others through health care.

While serving vulnerable patients as a pharmacist is a dream career for me, I need to be honest and still comment that I have never stopped thinking about what my religious vocation is, too. For example, I have thought about the joys and challenges of being a priest for several years now and may decide to pursue that journey in a few years. Only time will tell.

To the current students, I hope that you make the most of your time at La Salle Institute and beyond since I can only imagine what the road ahead will look like for you.

John Gray ‘81

I grew up just a couple miles from La Salle so on Fridays I liked to walk home. As I traipsed down the hill toward South Troy I would loosen my tie, un-tuck the light blue dress shirt and relax. It was not a problem because after all I was on my time, it was after school.

One Monday morning before the first bell rang they announced over the loudspeaker to all the classes that John Gray was to report to the principal’s office. Everyone stared at me as if I were walking to my doom and when I arrived Brother Bryce Patrick told me he saw me the previous Friday walking with my uniform all disheveled. He said, “When you put on the La Salle uniform you represent this school and you are to wear it correctly or don’t wear it at all.”

I never forgot that lesson and the many others instilled in me by the Christian Brothers and lay teachers. Morality is at the center of all you do and “good enough” when attempting a task is not in your vocabulary.

I have won two Emmy awards as a journalist and have published a successful book. Those things look nice on a resume but my contributions to my community, to my fellow man, far surpass them. Nearly 40 years after graduation I still want to make Brother Patrick and the others proud.

If you are a student at La Salle you have been given an incredible gift. Cherish it. Someday when you are a success in life you will look back and say all of this started the day I put on that uniform and set foot on Williams Road.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us. Live Jesus in our hearts forever.

Reflections from Jack KenyonRetired Teacher and Lifetime Friend of La Salle, 47 years of Service

Dear Alumni and My La Salle Family,

When Colonel Raczkowski asked me to write this article for the La Salle Alumni Newsletter, I considered it an honor and privilege to do so. I am sure many of you can relate to the personal reflections I have about La Salle ingrained in me as a teacher and coach for 47 years and continue to have as a friend of La Salle.

In September 1967, when I first arrived here, one of the first things I experienced was the good feeling of going to work every day. Later on, I realized the atmosphere I was feeling was part of the “shared mission” of La Salle Institute. Administrators, teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, staff, secretaries, parents and students were all working together to impart the La Sallian message to our young men. This La Sallian family approach of everyone working together to impart Christian Catholic values of truth, respect, discipline, duty, responsibility, honor and accountability is a timeless message needed in today’s world. Though we may have our share of conflicts and differences of opinion then and now, we have been able to maintain a high level of respect for each other, cooperation and unity among many people fostering a sense that we are all a part of something “bigger than ourselves” and very special. We are impacting the lives of our young men and leaders here and in our communities tomorrow.

La Salle has had the ability of attracting quality young men to our school. Students from various backgrounds, interests and talents are almost always successfully integrated into La Salle. This includes the “student,” the “athlete,” the “average” kid, kids who “struggle” and those who “don’t quite fit in.” We have enough clubs, sports and activities, plus individuals willing to reach out to kids who need help, to make them feel comfortable in our school. Often I have marveled over watching this happen. This approach allows students to fit in, feel comfortable to be themselves and fosters growth academically, personally and spiritually. This student centered approach to Catholic education is difficult and requires much energy, time and patience, but absolutely works and can bring about drastic changes in the most difficult to reach young men. Our school has had a quality educational program characterized by challenging classes and motivated caring teachers, which has created a great atmosphere for learning.

Our student centered, Christ centered approach to education has had and continues to have tremendous implications of impacting students and changing lives. The idea of presenting to young men that God is alive and well; He has a great plan and purpose for their lives; and He wants a close personal relationship with them through faith in His son Jesus Christ is an awesome thing. As we enter La Salle, written on our building are the words “Live Jesus in our hearts forever.” Daily each class repeats that statement to highlight the importance of Christ’s presence in our lives. This quote exemplifies the integral role faith plays in our school and personally in the lives of our students. It is clearly seen how faith in Christ is the key part of the La Sallian mission.

Today, as in the past, as we go forward, La Salle faces many difficult challenges. We can continue to take our part and share in the La Sallian mission by praying for our school. Jeremiah 33:3 says “Call to me and I will answer you and show you how great and mighty things you do not know.” If there was ever a time for the Lord to do great and mighty things at La Salle, it would be right now. We can all pray and ask Him for more new students and financial provision for our school. We can lift up Colonel Raczkowski and the Board of Trustees for wisdom and direction. We can pray for our faculty and staff at La Salle for God’s grace and strength and for this new spirit of unity to continue. Psalm 133 describes the importance of unity and reads. “Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity for there the Lord commanded the blessing, life forevermore.” Let’s all of us come together in prayer and unity and believe that the Lord will command blessings for our school; life forevermore for La Salle Institute.

“Live Jesus in our hearts,”Jack Kenyon

International Program The International Program at La Salle Institute began with a desire to give back to the school where Dr. and Mrs. Hong Yuan’s (Mia Wu) boys got started, the place that helped their sons succeed through high school, proud La Salle graduates of ’01 and ’03. These young men went on to earn bachelor’s degrees at Harvard University and now have successful careers in the fields of finance and marketing.

According to Mia Wu, co-coordinator with her husband, Hong, of the program that has hosted 21 Cadets from China including 9 graduates and 12 current students, it all began in 2011 when she received a postcard from Mr. Todd Crandall asking for a donation to La Salle’s Race for Education. “I wanted to make a donation to the school because of my passion for La Salle, but Hong and I also felt a strong desire to do more”, says Mia. That feeling prompted the creation of a proposal for what is now La Salle’s International Program, put into action by Associate Principal-

Guidance, Mr. Todd Crandall, and former Principal of La Salle Institute, Brother Carl Malacalza.

Mia and Hong travel to China annually where they meet potential families and introduce them to the values, heritage and academic opportunities of La Salle Institute. They proudly represent our school and feel that the boys that come to us from China benefit greatly from their experiences at La Salle. All nine graduates are currently enrolled in colleges from coast to coast, from Boston and Troy to San Diego and Seattle.

As we begin the 6th year of this program, we are happy to take this opportunity to thank Mia and Hong publicly, and to thank the families in China who entrust their sons to our care. We are very proud of our International students and all that they do to enrich our school each day.

Athletics Update

The 2017-2018 school year is off to a great start. With a new administration and leadership team the future looks bright for La Salle Institute.

Athletically, La Salle is trying to build off of last year’s tremendous success. During the 2016-2017 school year La Salle’s 14 varsity teams won an average of 72% of their competitions. This is up from 49% percent three years ago. Last

year La Salle Institute celebrated two Section 2 Championships (hockey and tennis), two Section 2 Final Fours (basketball and baseball) and three league championships (basketball, hockey and tennis). Approximately 80% of our eligible student body participated in athletics, a great statistic and foundation for our future.

Building off last year’s success will be extremely difficult, however we are already well on our way. This fall our varsity soccer team compiled a winning record and competed in the Section 2 quarterfinals. They lost to the state ranked Saratoga Springs team 1-0 in overtime. Equally impressive was how the varsity soccer team raised money for breast cancer awareness. This year the Cadet Soccer program raised over $10,000! This has become an annual tradition for the soccer program, and one of which La Salle Institute is extremely proud.

The cross country and golf teams also had great success. Football had a great start to the season and hopes were high, until the team suffered a number of serious injuries. We would

like to thank all of our fall coaches for their tremendous work ethic and dedication.

As we move forward, the winter and spring sports seasons look to be very promising. La Salle Institute hired Shane Hendry ‘06, as head varsity lacrosse coach. Mr. Hendry is currently La Salle’s Director of Admissions and International Programs. He brings extensive playing and coaching experience to a program on the rise and adds to the number of our full time faculty and staff who are committed to coaching.

Please come out and support the Cadets this year! For updated schedules please visit, www.colonialcouncil.org and click on La Salle Institute.

Thank you for your tremendous support of La Salle’s athletic department!

The Comeback Coach, Jesse Braverman“My transition to ‘the La Salle way’ was quite smooth.

Of course, the leadership and religious components of the La Salle ethos and syllabus were new to me, but the values which the one hundred and fifty year old educational institution sought to inculcate its students with – honesty, commitment, diligence, trustworthiness, and loyalty – were not. It was true that La Salle and I had taken different paths to those values, but our final destinations were and remain remarkably similar. I might not have served in the military, as some of my new colleagues had; I may have been raised in the Jewish faith and not the Catholic one, but it soon became clear to me that La Salle and I were a superb, if somewhat incongruous match.

A match made in heaven? I’m not sure about that – but certainly a match made in baseball heaven.”

– Excerpt from The Comeback Coach, pg. 217.

I have learned lots about both baseball and life from Jesse Braverman, and my own career is proof of that. I urge anyone who is interested in learning about the value of loyalty and

dedication, amongst other things, to read this compelling book. — Matt Quatraro, Assistant Hitting Coach, Cleveland Indians

The story of coach and special education teacher Jesse Braverman epitomizes one of his trademark phrases, “They pay me to try.” Comeback Coach is a must-read for any teacher, coach,

or individual who aspires to make a difference in the world. — Thomas Reardon, Superintendent of Schools,

Wynantskill Union Free School District, Wynantskill, New York

A great read about a dedicated, caring, and hard-working teacher, coach and friend. His work with the young men of La Salle Institute and throughout the Capital District will be remembered

for generations. An incredible story about a man who refused to give up.

— Pat Mulcahy, former Athletic Director, La Salle Institute

Jesse Braverman has coached 118 teams in numerous sports. He is the varsity baseball coach for La Salle Institute of Troy, New York. He is also a special education teacher.

Gordon F. Sander is a noted journalist who has written for The New York Times, Politico, Christian Science Monitor, and many other publications. He is also the author of six books.

In 2000, after a long bureaucratic struggle straight out of Kakfa, Jesse Braverman was removed as coach of the varsity baseball team of Bethlehem Central High School of Bethlehem, New York, nearly destroying him. But the baseball gods were not done

with the beloved diamond strategist. Hired by La Salle Institute of Troy, Braverman took its baseball team, the Cadets, to new heights, including an unprecedented

twenty-seven-game winning streak.

Written with Braverman’s long-time friend, distinguished journalist Gordon F. Sander, Comeback Coach tells the story of Braverman’s remarkable dual career as a multi-sport

athletic coach and special education teacher. Packed with human interest, Coach follows Jesse’s forty-year journey from the sandlot baseball fields of his youth, where he learned

about life and baseball at the knee of his mentor, Joe Austin, with whom he would be elected to the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame in 2015; to his initial successes with his numerous Bethlehem teams; and finally to his heartbreaking dismissal from

Bethlehem and inspiring “redemption” with the La Salle Cadets.

Principal’s Reflection on the Hall of Fame Induction Dinner

I have always believed, and will continue to believe that La Salle is special to each graduate in a unique and memorable way. On September 21st, I had the honor of attending and speaking at our Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Dinner. I thought that I had a pretty good speech. I planned on talking about being a student/athlete, the importance of athletics in developing life skills, the appreciation for coaches, perseverance, dedication, and the importance of being part of something that is bigger than oneself. Basically, all the things that I got from being a student/athlete. I was very comfortable with what I was going to say until I started listening to the amazing speeches of the inductees. They were genuine, totally from the heart, completely Lasallian with unconditional compassion, praise and support for La Salle Institute and all that our great school provided and continues to provide, not just for the athletes, but for all the students. That evening made me realize that my memories about my time as a student at La Salle Institute are not unique, they are shared by thousands of graduates who walked the hallways of our great school on 4th Street and Williams Road. This was not just a Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, it was a validation of how great La Salle Institute is.

Preserving Our HistoryFor some time now, the Alumni Association Archive Committee has been busy trying to locate and preserve copies of yearbooks for classes as far back as 60 years ago. They have discovered that there is a shortage of yearbooks from the early 1950s to the late 1960s, but a surplus from the 1970s until the present.

If any Alumni or family members of deceased Alumni from the classes of the 1950s to 1969 would like to donate a yearbook to the school or would like an additional copy of a yearbook between 1970 and the present, please contact Grace Reuter at (518) 283-2500 extension 238 or [email protected].
