No need to sugar coat this prediction. South Dade has a strangle hold onthis District championship and it will take more than just Killian’ssuccess to rain on their parade. I can’t imagine any other team outside of

those two making much noise to alter their momentum. In fact, South Dadewith a healthy campaign can find themselves playing a State Championshipgame.

Last time I checked, I didn’t see any attorneys making their arguments out on a baseball field. So how could John H. Ruiz, an “AV” rated attorney, who has dedicated eighteen years of practice primarily to class action lawsuits, hit a walk off Grand Slam Homerun? Bypassing corporate red tape, forward thinking, and passion seems to be essential elemnts behind this multimedia company designed by Ruiz. La Ley Sports projects to be out of this league.

Just before school was out for summer vacation, a certain kind of buzz was created by La Ley Sports that resulted in over 80,000 individual votes by players, family members and fans for the top 12 “La Ley Sports All County Senior Outstanding Award” recipients. Ruiz, invited by the Miami Herlad to be the keynote speaker of both Dade and Broward Athletic Awards, left 2,300 attendees in awe with his delivery. Still, many wondered how an attorney would get involved in the industry of youth Sports. Ruiz says, “Kids are our future. Too many times I have seen lives get shattered and families destroyed because we do not place enough emphasis on providing the proper framework for responsibility, dedication, concentration and hard work to reach our goals.”

So what is the wave of the future this entrepreneur envisions? The creation of an innovative website that permits athletes to create a player profile where they can upload photos and videos, view stats, and post their academic accomplishments. Is that it? Surely, there must be more. Parents, this one is especially for you. A father of three, who found himself one too many times unable to be at two places at once, developed Laleysports.com platforms with the goal of providing all accessibility to watch any youth sport game live in real

time. If you’re at work or anywhere else than your kids game, you’ll now have the ability to watch or hear the game live on your computer or cell phone. Can you still recall those desperate moments of uncertainty, not knowing how your son or daughter was doing at a sporting event? Well, those days are over.

In a world that’s too often bogged down by meetings and endless office paperwork, Ruiz a very hands on person, has met with athletic directors and Broadcast Journalism teachers in an effort to unite sports enthusiasts and fans. This website will give those students interested in Journalism, the ability to record, produce and narrate live game transmissions. La Ley Tv productions, a sister company of La Ley Sports, will train students to use widely available devices such as camcorders, net books, iPads, and cell phones for transmission purposes. However, don’t be surprised to catch HD live game transmission with instant replays and expert commentary on Direct Tv and the cable at the beginning of the new school year. La Ley Sports has been approached by; The Herald Publications, the Florida Marlins, ESPN, and Walt Disney Co, among others in a collaborative effort to produce programming content. Ruiz, who has successfully obtained unique youth player data, has agreed to develop partnerships with these media outlets and organizations.

Get ready, there is yet another buzz. La Ley Baseball Summer Classic Tournament, a 14-day supercharged power ball, will provide an opportunity for players to get discovered, instructed, and evaluated by professional scouts. The tournament, packed with training workouts, video and photo sessions, competitions, and games is just another aspect of this multifaceted

endeavor. La Ley TV Productions will air games on various networks and capture each athletes unique plays throughout the tournament. Players registered in the tournament will receive a premium video that will showcase their strengths and abilities. Boys between nine and 18 years of age are all welcomed to this tournament that will take place this summer at the La Ley Sports Complex at the City of Homestead.

The real trick to the grand slam has been Ruiz’s ability to gather a dream team of scouts including Enrique Fernandez and Mike Tosar to name a few. John Ruiz, also opened a 15,000 square foot indoor training facility. The state of the art complex is equipped with climate controlled batting cages, a health and fitness center, a café, and pitching video screens that feature the top 10 highschool pitchers of the week from Miami Dade and Broward Counties. The facility focuses on building the proper mechanics an athlete needs both physically and mentally to be successful in the game of baseball.

If more companies would stop over analyzing every move, start having fun and follow in the footsteps of Ruiz, we’re pretty confident that we’d see more discovery and less waiting time for the next Grand Slam/ John H. Ruiz and La Ley Sports have made sports history by landing the 25th Grand Slam.

f this District looks a lot like last year’s Class6A District 15 it’sbecause it is, well with a simple formula of removing Doral-Regan andinserting Coral Park. Not many times do I factor a Districts success from

a member’s failure, but Regan’s deletion leaves 9 district losses in limbofrom a year ago and very easily can be recuperated by many of the othersix members. It will be interesting to see if Coral Park’s struggles willworsen in 2012 as many believe they insert into a harder district.Columbus missed the playoffs in 2011 and success in 2012 might bedifficult. South Miami is a pesky team and look for the Cobras to wingames in 2012 that many will count them out on. Ferguson crownedthemselves District Champs last year and Sunset was the runner up; bothteams were eliminated by South Dade in the 2011 playoffs in the first andsecond round respectfully. Ferguson loses pitching in 2012 and can findthemselves on the outside looking in. Sunset the preseason favorite towin the District.

nlike all the other realignments in the Class 8A , the 14th district hastwo teams that can finally get out of the shadows of division championsfrom a year ago. Goleman (District 13 runner up) and Coral Gables

(District 14 runner up) will finally have the chance to solidifythemselves as a District champion in 2012. Yet, were their seems to be asolution in lies a problem for both of these teams as they will be joinedby up and coming Miami High, Miami Springs and Ronald Regan-Doral. CoralGables never the less should find themselves as District Champs as Golemanlost an overwhelming amount of Seniors in 2011.

he days for American breezing by to District Championships might justcome to an end with the addition of Hialeah in the newly aligned Class 8ADistrict 13. With Hialeah Gardens getting better and better with every

season they accumulate under their belt they will make noise in the nearfuture. Yet, before Hialeah Gardens gathers talent and confidence they andthe rest of the district will have to sit back and relax while Hialeah andAmerican battle the district out. Last season District Champions (6ADistrict 13 (American) and 14 (Hialeah)) met in the Regional Semi-Finalwere Hialeah snuck out with a 6-4 victory. ith two playoff teams from a year ago, 6A District 12 Champs (Flanagan) and 6A District 12 runner up (West Broward) enter the newly configured 8A district 12. A district which will be dominated by

Flanagan will have the likes of West Broward, Miramar and Everglades fighting for the runner up spot. The rivalry of West Broward and Flanagan will reunite in a new setting but it will be hard to erase Flanagan’s 12-2 victory over West Broward from the mind of the Bobcats in last season’s Regional Semi-Final. Flanagan would lose in the very next round in a nail bitter (6-7).

Coral Park High (Miami) alumni Pedro Gomez began his career at the South Dade News leader (located in the

Homestead area) a gig that was presented to him by his journalism professor at the time Pete Thompson. On Fridays and Sundays he would write about the high school sporting events going on in the south Florida area. Although he did write for the publication his main job was actually answering phone calls. He finally got his chance to be a reporter with the Miami News Time in the late 80’s, but the Miami News would close down on December 31st 1988. He would receive an offer from a San Diego sports editor to cover High school sports in the San Diego area. From San Diego he would move to the bay area in California where he would get his big break as an Oakland A’s beat writer. After some time the Arizona Republic was in search of a National baseball writer due to the birth of the Arizona Diamondbacks. His reputation and professionalism would urge ESPN to contact Pedro in seek of his interest as a reporter for the “worldwide leader in sports”. He would go on to cover every MLB World Series and All-Star game from 1995 till present day.

Going back to his roots as a young writer in South Florida he remembers the super stars that would come out of South Florida in the late 70’s and early 80’s that would later flourish under bigger spot lights: “Jose Canseco (Coral Park), Danny Tartabull (Carol City), Rafael Pailmero (Jackson), Lenny Harris (Jackson) all came out of Miami at the same time. A few years later Alex Fernandez (Pace), Robert Mu-

noz (Hialeah- Miami Lakes), Orestes Destrade (Columbus) and Ricky Gutierrez (Ameri-can)…” just to name a few would come out of what he called, “an absolute gold mine for baseball talent”.

He credits the “gold mine” to the golden sun of Miami and its ever forgiving weather year round for the sport of baseball. “The climate lends itself to play 12 months a year, unlike northern cities were they don’t start playing till April because of snow and its aftermath”. A second factor to the citiy’s success is the Latin influences which in most circles “baseball is a way of life”. Although Pedro sees Major League talent on a daily basis he still awes at the ever changing game of High School baseball “As a collective group the sport of high school baseball and the talent that is coming out of the High School game overall in this country is, a better brand and continues to improve in both the High School and even the college ranks”. The two biggest markets for young baseball talent being South Florida and Southern California. “When looking at the numbers it gives Southern California the advantage but you have to keep in mind there is 20 million people living in the Southern California area as supposed to the South Florida area where there is 4 to 5 million. So, more talented players come out of Southern California simply because of its population. But, I would put an all-star team of South Florida’s best players against any state (including Southern California) and know that I would have a pretty good squad”.

Pedro points at media outlets such as La Ley Sports for the ever growing interest in these young athletes, “Its exposure, there are more avenues for exposure now then there ever was. If you are a college program and your recruiting budget isn’t what football’s is you are going to have to find different avenues like La Ley Sports that provide a tremendous amount of exposure that would normally just come from the local newspaper and that’s it. Mediums like la Ley Sports who have written publications, social networks and all the medium avenues available benefit these athletes like never before”.

Yet there are no amounts of exposure that can prepare you for the sacrifices that lie ahead when working in the world of sports whether you want to be a Major League ballplayer or Journalist like Pedro Gomez. At a young age most of these athletes who become Major Leaguers had to sacrifice a lot of their time, “Summer Vacation became summer ball, Late

Night Fridays were traded for early morning Saturday baseball and the same can be said for a young journalist trying to make a name for their selves. But if you know that this is what you want to do for the rest of your life, know that you will have to make a lot of sacrifices to get where you want to be and you always have to move to where ever your career is pushing you.” More importantly he acknowledges that “doing well in school is necessary for a young athlete. You can’t play if you don’t have the grades... ineligibility makes it impossible for a scout to even see you” and he never shy’s from the fact that “there is only 750 active major league players… chances of getting to play in the majors are next to nothing. It’s necessary to have a backup plan and your backup plan should involve education.”

Pedro Gomez was assigned to follow Barry Bonds for the better part of three seasons cul-minating in Bonds’ passing of Hank Aaron for the all-time home run record. He has covered historic events such as the Cincinnati Reds vic-tory over the defending World Series champion A’s in 1990, José Canseco’s trade to the Texas Rangers for Rubén Sierra in 1992, Rickey Hen-derson’s 1,000th stolen base and most recently Barry Larkin’s invitation into the hall of fame- where Pedro is an active voting member. Yet, the one event that stands out the most to this veteran was something that occurred in 2003, his very first year with ESPN. “I was covering Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS for ESPN and I along with every other news outlet was waiting for the final 6 outs of the NLCS. In the background I can see Wrigley Field employees setting up the Cubs clubhouse with champagne bottles and all the celebratory features (including the NLCS trophy in the Cubs name). But, of course everything unraveled and the Marlins just kept scoring in that eighth inning and in came storming all the Major League Baseball officials removing all of the celebratory features and then a frenzy of media and personnel rushing now to the Marlins dugout in literally seconds. It was pretty incredible, later the Marlins would go on to play in the World Series and I got the opportunity to cover the World Series in my hometown… (again) ”.

When asked who are the three best players to ever come out of South Florida he replied, “the best pure talent to ever come out of South Florida is Andre Dawson, Mike Lowell and Alex Fernandez” in no particular order . Gomez is married and has three children. He currently lives in Phoenix, AZ.

hanks to the off season realignments the Class 8A District 11willfeature three playoff teams from a year ago. South Plantation was the 6ADistrict 11 runner up, but they leave behind their former district nemeses

McCarthur. Last season’s 6A District 10 runner up Deerfield beach and2011’s 6A District 10 Champ Corals Springs will join the 8A district 11 aswell. Douglas and Coral Glades are sure to make noise in that District, but come playoff time I expect Coral Springs to clinch yet anotherdistrict championship due to the fact that they lost only one senior froma year ago. If it means anything, every single team in the newly realigneddistrict was sitting at home past the first round of the playoffs in 2011.

“I BELIEVE THE GREATEST ACCOMPLISHMENT IN SPORTS AND LIFE IN GENERAL, IS NOT FALLING BUT RISING AGAIN AFTER YOU FALL.” --KIKO.

When you meet Enrique “Kiko” SanMartin you would never believe he was involved in a catastrophic accident on the baseball field some months ago. To all those who know him “Kiko” has a positive attitude, a captivating smile and is as witty as can be. These characteristics have been key in his path to a full recovery. His love for the sport of baseball has pushed him to endure occupational Therapy four times a day at one point, during his recovery. His life has now returned, somewhat to normal. He’s back in school and is walking with just a cane in hand, “I’m happy to be back, in school,” said Martin. At home

San Martin tries not to use the cane as much, a task which doctors are astonished he’s been able to accomplish in such a short amount of time after the accident on that Saturday morning. Kiko was ready to play a double header that Saturday in Coral Reef. His Southwest junior varsity team was facing Coral Reef, when an almost routine play was anything but common. Kiko had ran past the third base bag and turned to get back to the bag, as the catcher was making the throw to the third baseman. When Kiko slid, he slid head first to avoid the tag. Unfortunately, he slid into the knee of the third baseman and broke his C5 vertebrae. . Enrique was airlifted from the field to Jackson Trauma Center, where the Doctors got right to work on his severe neck injury, “It was just a freak accident,” Kiko said. His parents, Eli and Enrique SanMartin are eternally grateful to Coach Andrew from Southwest, who made sure Kiko was not moved until Paramedics were at the scene. The Doctors credit the lack of movement after the accident to the possibility of Kiko’s recovery. “We are eternally grateful to coach Andrew, he was our guardian angel that day, ” said Eli. It has been a very intensive

rehabilitation for San Martin who was in the Hospital for over two months, with an occasional Day pass especially during the Holidays. The day pass allowed him to spend a couple of hours at home and brought back a little normality back into his life. His sister, Natalia Martin, was also very happy to have him home for the Holidays. Both his parents Eli and Ernesto have been by his side during this path whether at the hospital or at home. “ I know he wanted my husband and I there every minute. Honestly, I believe us being around has helped him with his recovery,” said Eli. Not only has his family rallied around Kiko for his recovery but his friends including his team mates at Southwest and his travel team the Lumber Kings. It hasn’t been easy but Kiko is very grateful to his entire support system, “ They all visited me in the hospital, one of my good friends even engraved my name in his baseball cap. I really appreciate all everyone has done,” he said. He made a special appearance during the Private vs. Public school baseball game held in his honor. On that day Kiko, was who was not even scheduled to attend surprised everyone by not only standing from his wheelchair and walking from the pitchers mound, but threw the

first pitch to the legendary Andrew Dawson, who showed his support along with Mike Lowell and other MLB players. The courage and tenacity displayed by the 16-year-old Enrique Kiko SanMartin is something to be admired. We are sure to keep an eye out because there is no stopping this young man until he’s back on that Diamond. “An old man once said, when you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe then you will be successful. I want to play baseball again as I want to breathe, so I know I will play baseball again. With God by my side, I know I will rise again and I will play baseball.” - Kiko

his is the only realignment south of Palm Beach County that has not asingle member who played in the post season in 2011. Picking the best inthis district is tough. I would have to give the District Championship to

Monarch. Monarch at least was somewhat competitive in most of their lossesa season ago. All other members of the district had so many double digitlosses it gives a person no other choice but to pick Monarch. Monarch willwin this District and it will be a battle of the best against otherdistrict members for the runner up spot.

elen Jesuit comes in with an abundance of quality wins from a year ago.The fact that they run away from a district shared by Key West has them asa clear cut favorite to win the 6A District 16. In fact what is most

enticing about this District is the runner up position, Mater Academycomes in with the best player in South Florida in Albert Almora but this year they have sorrounded him with great teamates in the offseason. But, wouldthat be enough to surpass Homestead High or even an HML. HML simply putlast season beat the bad teams and loss to the good ones, that just mightbe enough to put them in third place of this district. Don’t forget aboutWestland Hialeah, although they are a relatively new school we all know theCity of Hialeah needs no time line before it begins to develop baseballsupremacy, they should be no exception. Matter Academy should be a lock for the runner up position.

meetalbert almora

Albert Almora, star center fielder for his High school Matter academy, began playing baseball as soon as he was able to hold up a bat. “Since I was little I had baseball in my veins,” said Albert. His father, Arturo Almora, played baseball and has been a driv-ing force in Albert’s baseball success. Albert was born with amazing talent, a talent that has been cultivated throughout the years. This 17 year old 6’2, 175 pound, was born to play one sport and one sport well… Baseball. When you see Almora on the field, it’s inevitable to overlook his talent. With Almoras powerhouse swing and amazing speed, it’s no wonder why other players second- guess themselves when facing him. His cat like reflexes, in center field, has earned him the respect of many coaches and players. “My favorite thing is being in the outfield, catching a fly ball and knowing the coach is going to hold the runner. I know he won’t let him run on me, that is a sign of respect and I’ve worked a lot for it, so I’m Happy about that. “ In this 2011-2012 season Albert already has a batting an average of .476. This year couldn’t have started off any better for Al-bert, with over 24 colleges visiting him for potential baseball scholar-ships, he decided to sign with the prestigious University of Miami, making one of his childhood dreams a reality. “He always wanted to play for the University of Miami, and honestly we are very lucky to have him stay close where we can still be his number one fans going to

all his games, “ said his mother, and number 1 fan, Ana Almora.

Almora is currently ranked and being ranked top 10 in the nation among high school seniors by baseball America, he was off to an excellent senior year start. This year he was invited to participate as part of the USA team during the Pan American games in Colum-bia where he led Team USA 18-under squad to a gold medal at the Pan American Championships, this past November in Colombia November. Almora returned home with a gold medal and the MVP trophy as well as the USA player of the

year. But triumph soon turned into tragedy for Albert

written by melissa hernandez

Almora. When Albert returned home from his trip to Columbia, his grandmother Tomasa Sosa, 88, had passed away a day after he left to Columbia, and grandfather Juan Sosa, 94, died the day before Albert returned home. “I got home and went to say hi to them, realized the bed wasn’t made and asked for my grandmother and my grandfa-ther, since they live with us. That’s when I found out they had both passed away. It’s been real hard, but I know they are with me.” This has been a difficult obstacle to surpass, but Albert works hard every day to make sure they are smiling down on all his achievements.

meetDavid thompson

David Thompson began his baseball career at the age of 5 at Perrine Khoury League, where he admittedly ran all the way to the right-field wall when his first base coach instructed him

to keep running on a potential extra-base hit. It’s safe to say that over the years he has found his way around the base paths, just last season Thompson broke Prince Fielder’s Florida

all-time homerun record. The miraculous part is that he broke the all-time homerun record with his senior year still pending. Although his personal achievements are jaw dropping it

doesn’t compare to his most memorable moments, “To me the best achievement is when it’s with a team. Those two state championships we won my freshman and

sophomore year were the best feelings in the world”, said Thompson.

One of the first coaches that Thompson has played for was current Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, “at a young age he had an impressive bat

speed”. Once his father Ed Thompson heard those words from Gonzalez he knew there was something special brewing in the Thompson

household. “David was always a fierce competitor”, recalls David’s mother Jen Thompson. “When David was younger he was always hard on himself, in fact after a bad game we found him practicing on his swing in the backyard at about 2 AM… David always strived to be better”.

In the 2012 season David plans to move back to third-base where he feels most comfortable and plans to better his defense, as far as his offense goes it will be hard to better his performance from a year ago. In 99 at-bats he got 52 hits bringing in 50 runs and cleared the fences 18 times (one shy of his career high). Many scouts have compared his abilities to Westminster Alumni and current Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez, but the impressive comparisons also span into the sport of football were his football abilities have been compared to those of two- time national champion quarterback Tim Tebow, a player which Thompson looks up to “not only because of his athleticism but his faith”.

David who is a three sport athlete (baseball, football and basketball) at Westminster has noticeable to the University of Miami and plans to play both football and baseball for the Hurricanes. In fact, Hurricanes Head football coach Al Golden made Thompson his first priority upon taking the job at Miami by making the Thompson residence his first official home visit. As far as David foregoing June’s MLB Draft is concerned mum is the word, “I plan to study Business at Miami and play both baseball and football” says Thompson. he core of this district is a condensed form of last season 4A District15 with the only addition being Hollywood Hills. Hollywood Hills had atough season, in two meetings with eventual District champ McArthur

they were outscored 36-5, perhaps they accumulate a few more victories in 2012but not enough to be at the top of the standings. The two teams who madethe playoffs in the then 4A placement reunite in 2012, Archbishop McCarthy(District Champ) and Fort Lauderdale (runner up). With an exception ofPines Charter turning in more quality wins in 2012, McCarthy’s return intothe playoffs should be inevitable. I can very easily see Ft. Lauderdaletaking advantage of McCarthy’s massive loss in the seniors department.McCarthy’s state championship defense might not land them back into thepromise land, but out of respect and trust in the coaching staff theyshould repeat as District Champions.

merican Heritage turned over the most successful campaign out of itsdistrict peers in 2011 capturing the 3A District 14 championship, yet theylose a lot of arms from a year ago. The handicap of young pitchers

shouldn’t keep American Heritage from the playoffs but they just mighthave to make room for a new District champion in Pompano Beach. PompanoBeach settled to see North Broward Prep take the runner up position butthey won’t have to compete with NBP this season thanks to the off seasonrealignment. Look to Pompano beach to take advantage and steal theDistrict 16 Championship.

n a District realignment made for a Hollywood script, three out of thefour members made the playoffs last season and two were districtchampions. Key West won the 4A District 16 championship a year ago and

would look to compete against a tough Gulliver Prep squad who won theirdistrict of a year ago. St. Brendan (3A District 16 runner up) may be onthe outside looking in this time around as they will have more than onetail to chase this season. Key West and Gulliver are both so talented andwould make anybody a happy spectator, but Gulliver is just that muchbetter and should win the 4A District 16.

a Salle steps into this district as the team with the richest baseballhistory out of all of their new district nemeses. La Salle finally stepsout of the shadow of Pace and can make themselves a district power house.

Yet, it couldn’t happen in a worst year. They lose a handful of playersand dominating pitching from a year ago. This would be Head Coach OscarBenitez’s toughest task yet as the front man for La Salle. Many believeTERRA and Ransom Everglades aren’t ready for the playoff spot light justyet. But, don’t be shocked if TERRA wins games this season they are notsupposed to. That leads me to Doral Academy, one of the most interestingteams in all of South Florida. Doral had a strong campaign in 2011 andthey are a team still looking for their identity. This district will comedown to coaching. La Salle wins the district.

Tradition, a word synonymous with Baseball, but what happens when a new school emerges, and a group of very young talented players have to prove they are up to par with teams that have been around for over 15 years?

“We are starting a new tradition. Those teams will have competition against us, I know we are a First year Varsity team, and we will face great teams, but we can fight against them.” Ruben Pino, Sophomore Varsity catcher.

The school, Terra Environmental Research Institute opened its doors fall of 2009. This school is unlike any other. Known as the “Green School,” Terra, a magnet program, offers High school kids a curriculum in areas such as; Engineering and Robotics, Environmental and Field

Studies and Biomedical Research.

“ I came to this school because of the academics. It’s a great opportunity to play baseball and prove how good we are while getting an incredible education,” said one of the baseball team captains, Matthew Maquew. This school not offers amazing opportunities but teaches its students discipline and respect two key words the player reiterate on the baseball diamond. The excellence taught at Terra is a quality the coaching staff is very proud of.

Since the school is new and the baseball program is only three years old, they called in a very well known coach, a man who had played baseball his entire life, which includes playing with the Chicago White Sox. His name is Hernan Adames. Adames has been coaching some of these kids since they were freshman and is elated with the progress they’ve made although they are a very young team.

They call Indian Hammocks Park, in Kendall their “Field of Dreams,” according to Coach Hernan. This is where the young team spends most of their afternoon every day, after a rigorous academic school day. Before every practice, Adames talks to his team and shares advice and motivation to get through the grueling three-hour fundamental practice, “We are hitting the fundamentals of the game. A lot of people have great arms, but they don’t know how to throw the ball properly. Some have great hands, but they don’t set their feet correctly. Being a new school, we only have eight juniors in this varsity squad, therefore we

are paying incredible attention to details, it’s all about fundamentals,” said coach Hernan. Adames knowledge and love for the sport of baseball is clearly visible on the field as he takes his time with each of his players individually. “This team is not about wins or loses, it’s about bringing quality young men into our society,” reiterated Adames.

This team makes sure to not only worry about themselves as individual players, but also help each other and also “pump” each other up. After speaking to the players from Terra, there was one common phrase all players said, “We are not just a team we are a family.” Achieving this task doesn’t come easy, but coach Hernan has made instilling these values a priority and believes this will help them throughout the season.

Junior captain and third baseman Jason Vila said, “This is our year to show everyone we are not just a new school, we know how to hustle and work hard.”

This team, although young, are dedicated to their baseball team, a sport they love. The school may have a lot to prove but this team showed us what they were all about during Decembers La Ley Sports Holiday Bash. They played against incredible teams and they fought and fought hard, making it to the Semi-final game.

It is inevitable to see the hard work, time and effort this team, the Terra Wolverines, has put into having, their own NEW baseball tradition.

his is going to be one of the toughest Districts in Broward County. Thedifference between first and last place in the 4A district should be nomore than 8 games. With that said, out of all of its new members only one

got into the playoffs and that was #A District 14 runner up North BrowardPrep. Naturally one would be leaning towards recent success for a futuredivision champ but the fact that NBP lost nearly half of their team to the2011 senior class will make anybody second guess them. Chaminade showedsigns of life last year with key performances in the beginning of theseason but faded out of a playoff picture just as quickly. The districttwo playoff bids will come down to NBP’s ability to gel the youngstersfilling in the big shoes left behind and the play of University, PineCrest and Coral Springs Charter.

estminster Christian comes into this season with high hopes. A win away from the State Championship game would leave anyone with a sour taste in their mouths. Westminster with key off season

acquisitions should have just enough talent to surpass what was already a great season from a year ago. Let’s not forget who they share the district with now that’s the very same Florida Christian team they eliminated in last year’s second round of the playoffs look for them to attempt to rain on Westminster’s parade.Marathon will play a huge factor in the district outcome as they are sureto pull off some huge upsets in this district.

f this District looks a lot like last year’s Class 6A District 15 it’sbecause it is, well with a simple formula of removing Reagan andinserting Coral Park. Not many times do I factor a Districts success from

a member’s failure, but Reagan’s deletion leaves 9 district losses in limbofrom a year ago and very easily can be recuperated by many of the othersix members.

Class 2a District 14predictionsT

he only playoff team from a year ago making a new home in this 14thdistrict is Champagnat. Champagnat should have an easier road in 2012 asthey find themselves no longer in a shared District with Brito Private.

The only team I can possibly see making a run at Champagnat is fellowHialeah school Horeb Christian who return in 2012 with a very young teamthat might just gel this season.

Class 2a District 13predictionsS

heridan Hills Christian is the only team that made the playoffs last yearin this realigned district, as they made it through as the 1A District 14runner up. They will breeze by this district and will let the rest of the

pack battle it out for runner up supremacy. South Florida HEAT is a veryyoung program but you have to like their chances with their new district tmembers. But, very easily it can come down to the play of Zion Lutheranand Posnack in district games. I hate to limit The South Florida Heatseason to specific games but their season will come down to one simplerule beat Posnack and Lutheran and they should be in the playoffs.
