Ascott Secures Its Third And Fourth Citadines In Bangkok

In December 2005, The Ascott Group entered a joint

agreement with Thailand’s Thakral family to launch

five Citadines properties in Bangkok by 200. Since the

signing of the pact, four of the five properties have already

been secured.

The latest of these are citadines Bangkok sukhumvit

Boulevard and citadines Bangkok sukhumvit green.

The first and second properties announced earlier are

Citadines Bangkok Sukhumvit Lake (opening later this

year) and Citadines Bangkok Sukhumvit Asoke (opening

second half of 2007).

The 28-unit Citadines Bangkok Sukhumvit Boulevard

located at Soi of Sukhumvit Road, is slated to open in

the second half of 2007. The 30-unit Citadines Bangkok

Sukhumvit Green, situated at Soi 8 of Sukhumvit Road,

will be ready for occupation in 2008.

The introduction of Citadines in Thailand underscores

Ascott’s front-running position in the kingdom’s serviced

residence industry. The Group already commands over

20 percent of Bangkok’s upper-tier market with six

properties under The Ascott and Somerset brands.

Ascott’s HeartwareSomerset Relief For Leyte Landslide Victims

In the spirit of Ascott’s Heartware culture, Somerset Serviced Residences in Philippines initiated a three-week donation drive in February to aid survivors of a major landslide in the eastern province of Leyte.

The mountainside catastrophe had buried numerous households as well as an elementary school. In its wake, hundreds of lives were lost and many left homeless and bereft of basic provisions.

Thank U For Thanking Us

Dear Mr Cameron,

You will notice I have taken a page from my apartment to write to you. Recently, I was fortunate to be invited to a lecture tour in Singapore. My work is to help and support families who have experienced the loss of a beloved child. I founded a Charity in the UK - The Child Bereavement Trust and am so immensely proud that we now have a support group here in Singapore.

My trip to train professionals and see bereaved families has been made easier because of the wonderful accommodation I’m living in. I believe you so kindly agreed to support me with a lovely apartment at Somerset. It’s hard to adequately express the gratitude I feel for your kindness and gesture. It has made such a difference to me and what they have been able to offer.

We are greatly indebted to you and also to the families who have been so kind and generous to me in Singapore. I have been looked after so well by Gerard Lee and the staff at Somerset were excellent.

My most grateful thanks for your kind support.

Yours Sincerely,

Jenni ThomasPresidentThe Child Bereavement Trust

Founder and President of the child Bereavement trust in the United Kingdom, Ms Jenni thomas, was invited to singapore to conduct a series of lectures for medical workers on bereavement support at three singapore hospitals - KK Women’s & children’s Hospital, national University Hospital and thomson Medical centre. Ms thomas was also given the opportunity to give a public talk, and a chance to meet the police officers at the clementi Police station. During her visit, she guided the police officers on how to offer compassion without compromising their professional duties when dealing with bereaved parents. Many bereaved parents and several bereaved siblings came to private group meetings with Ms thomas, and benefited from the invaluable support and care she offered.

Ascott was privileged to be the accommodation sponsor for Ms thomas’ stay in singapore. During her two-week visit to singapore in February 2006, somerset orchard played host to Ms thomas; she shared her experience at the somerset orchard in a letter to Ascott’s cEo, Mr cameron ong.

Ascott’s Leadership Development Programme Service excellence is the most common denominator of the numerous awards that have been presented to The Ascott Group. Being the best at what it does, Ascott believes it can always get even better.

Among its ceaseless efforts to remain the standard bearer of the serviced residence industry is the on-going Leadership Development Programme (LDP). Held in Singapore, the most recent programme kicked off with 0 management trainees.

Seven rigorous weeks of classroom training and project work culminated in three days of intensive presentations and Question & Answer sessions before a panel of senior management.

At the launch party for Somerset Darling Harbour’s refurbished penthouse held in March, a who’s-who list of Sydney’s corporate highfliers got a taste of life at the peak of this luxury-soaked property.

There were plenty to tickle their fancy: a live harp player; fish-bearing vases on the bar; 0-minute head and neck massages; bathrooms with incense oils and the baths filled with scented water, rose petals and floating candles. Not to mention a free flow of pink bubbly in mini piccolo bottles to drink to the great unveiling!

Enriching Lives through ExplorationWhen you check in at any of the three Somerset residences, you can count on a wealth of opportunities to experience the beauty and culture of the country - thanks to ‘The Somerset Explorers’ programme.

Launched for the first time at the Somerset properties, the programme facilitates exciting group excursions conducted by seasoned hosts beyond the urban districts of the Philippines.

To date, participating residents from the three Somerset residences in Manila have viewed an extensive collection of religious artefacts and dined by the foot of a man-made waterfall in Villa Escudero; braved the shooting rapids as well as beheld the towering cliffs and cascading waters of Pagsanjan Falls; visited St. Joseph Church, home of the Las Piñas Bamboo Organ; toured a Jeepney factory for a firsthand look at the manufacture of this quintessentially Filipino mode of transport; and perched on the 600-metre-high ridge of Tagaytay for vistas of Taal Volcano - the smallest active peak in the world.

A splashing time Known to foreigners as the ‘water festival’, Songkran is the Thai New Year celebration that runs from 3-5 April. It is observed in a festive, if not mischievious spirit, whereby anyone and everyone in sight gets doused with water. During what is the hottest season of the year, the pranks also make for a refreshing way to ‘beat the heat’.

This past Songkran, the Somerset properties went to some lengths to get its residents into the act. Much to the delight of children and adults alike, its version of the festivity starred a baby elephant, Praikaew, at Somerset Park Suanplu. Guests at some properties were also treated to traditional Thai desserts, a traditional Thai dance, and the traditional Thai massage performed by professional masseurs.

And with costume-clad Somerset staff at hand to fill the attentive audience in on the background of the evening’s activities, a both entertaining and educational time was enjoyed by all.
