Value the Person International was formed in Europe byJim Cowan and Gavin Cargill in 1999. This “movement”evolved from Value of the Person Consultancy set up byWayne Alderson in Pittsburgh, USA in 1974. This followedthe dramatic turnaround of an ailing steel plant inPennsylvania, using the “Value the Person” principles.

Value the Person is a global management consultancybusiness, a training and development company, a peopleassessement business and a registered charity in the UKand Albania.

Value the Person has a vision to see every person, everyorganisation, every community and every country adoptinga Value the Person ethos and experiencing a differentkind of culture that maximises everyone’s contribution.

This fresh mission required a new set of tools and newapproaches to identify individual talent, develop leadersand maximise individual and team performance. To helpus, we ensure that our practices are underpinned by thelatest research findings on personal and organisationaldevelopment.

The Mission

Page 4: L C COMPANY BROCHURE - Value the Personassessement business and a registered charity in the UK and Albania. ... The Mission. Value the Person’s mission is to help people become great

Value the Person’s mission is to help people become great leaders, great managers, help individuals achieve their sustained personalsuccess and teams maximise their potential.

The Aims and the Approach

Page 5: L C COMPANY BROCHURE - Value the Personassessement business and a registered charity in the UK and Albania. ... The Mission. Value the Person’s mission is to help people become great

How do we do it?We do this by helping leaders and managers develop themselves, their organisations, their teams and individuals, by giving them:

• The keys to identifying their talents and the talents of others.

• The knowledge to create a great team and a great organisation.

• The skills and knowledge to be a great leader.

• The knowledge and techniques to be a great manager.

• The approach to effectively manage themselves and their available time.

• Models to gain and sustain peoples’ proactive contribution to changing and improving an organisation.

• The necessary system to select people who will actively contribute to the success of the organisation and to be fully motivated in the role for which they were selected.

Our approach in all that we do is to promote a Value the Person culture, developing a different kind of self-propelled workforce by creating adifferent kind of leader, manager, team and organisation.

We impart the skills and knowledge of selecting, growing and inspiringpeople to create this different kind of workplace culture that maximisesproductivity and motivates people to give extroadinary performanceeach day.

The Experience of being Valued

We have always passionately believed that to value theperson was the right thing to do.

Now we can demonstrate from independent evidence, from extensive research such as that undertaken by theGallup Organisation, that customer satisfaction, profits, productivity, employee loyalty and safety can only besustained in an environment where the experience ofbeing valued is real and embedded in the culture.

From Silicon Valley in California to post-communistAlbania, from the financial institutions of the UK towar-torn Rwanda the message is the same; “The needto experience being valued is at the core of all success, growth and reconciliation”.

“Only the person who recieves the experience of being valued can sustain success.”

PrinciplesThe journey towards Value the Person as a realityin a business, an organisation, a community, a familyor an individual life always starts with change.

Our aim is to provide a compass to help otherschange, grow and be engaged at work to achievepersonal fulfilment. [ ‘To be engaged’ means to befocused in channeling all your available efforts andtalents into what you’re doing.]

The four points of this compass are contained in thefollowing principles through which individuals, organisations and communities can achievefulfilment and their destiny.

“Four key principlesunderpinning all we do...”

Everyone is unique and we are fulfilled when wemaximise the use of our talents.

Everyone is capable of being a leader since leadershipis about influencing people positively and we are allcapable of this.

Great leaders ‘engage’ people because they realiseengaged people are the most productive.

We are born with talent but our character is a questionof choice. Since sustained success is a question ofcharacter and talent, we need to develop character aswell as our talent to be successful.

Each of our brains is designed differently and, therefore, weare only really happy when we are doing the things for whichwe were programmed.

This principle states that, if we are to realise our potential, experiencepersonal success and maximise our contribution to what we do, wemust identify what our unique talents are.

In order to maximise the contribution of a person in an organisation, leaders must seek to match people to jobs for which they are suited.

Principle 1Uniqueness

This principle states that everyone can be a great leaderbecause leadership is about influencing people positively.

Although we may never be the next Martin Luther King, wecan all learn how to influence the people within our givencircle of colleagues, friends, family, etc. because “leadership is nota position occupied but an influence exercised.”

Principle 2

Page 9: L C COMPANY BROCHURE - Value the Personassessement business and a registered charity in the UK and Albania. ... The Mission. Value the Person’s mission is to help people become great

Research tells us that, because they are operating in anenvironment where they are experiencing being valued, engaged people give their best and operate atmaximum productivity levels. Productivity, customersatisfaction, profit, employee morale, safety and qualityoutputs are all directly linked to ‘engagement’.

As great leaders and managers intuitively know, this principlestates that it’s engaged people that make the differencebetween good performance and great performance

Principle 3Engagement

Success is not just about releasing talent, great leadership, andengaged people. It is also about making the right choices.Individuals that make a difference have character, that is, actwith integrity and, even in the most difficult times, do the rightthing, have a positive attitude and exercise self-discipline.
