For 150 years, Hohner’s diatonic harmonicas set the in-
dustry standard through high quality construction, excel-
lent response and unsurpassed tone. Often called
Blues Harps, they remain a fixture in blues, rock, coun-
try, folk, and many other styles of music. Traditional
Richter tuning and undivided air channels allow for tech-
niques such as bending and overblowing reeds, creating
the signature wailing sound typical of the harmonica.

ChromaticChromatic harmonicas are designed to play every
complete scale in any key – major, minor, penta-
tonic, blues, etc. – all on one instrument. Addition-
ally, all accidental notes are available at any time
for any situation.
Each single hole contains four notes, engaged indi-
vidually by inhaling and exhaling in combination
with pressing and releasing a button on the right
side of the instrument. This system allows for
complete chromatic playing, using all the notes of
the western scale. Most chromatic harmonicas are
also solo tuned, meaning each group of four holes
covers a complete octave.
This design offers limitless expression to the player.
Most often found in classical and jazz music, chro-
matic harmonicas are becoming increasingly popu-
lar in blues, rock and pop situations as well.

Hohner’s tremolo harmonicas are double reed in-
struments. The bottom row of holes features the
same notes as the top row, tuned slightly higher.
This special tuning creates the tremolo’s distinct
sound, a beautiful vibrato effect with a richer tone.
These harmonicas are primarily used in ballads,
folk, reggae & gospel music.

Octave HarmonicasSimilar to its sister harmonica, the tremolo, octave
harmonicas are also double reed instruments. The
bottom row of holes features the same notes as
the top row, with reeds tuned exactly one octave
apart. This enables a solo player to get a stronger,
richer bodied sound than with a single reed har-
monica. Octave models are popular in Cajun, Old
Time, Celtic and Traditional music.
Orchestral HarmonicasHohner’s orchestral chord and bass harmonicas pro-
vide rhythm and bass accompaniment when played
in a group setting. The Chromatica is most often
used for special effects.
