Chapter 2- Website Proposals

Site 1: Severna Park Gymnastics

• The first website I considered to recreate was my previous place of employment! Severna Park Gymnastics, located in Arnold, Maryland, just outside of Severna Park and Annapolis. Severna Park Gymnastics is a fast growing gymnastics and fitness program designed for children ages 12 months to 18 years of age. They provide pristine knowledge and understanding of the sport while creating a positive and fun learning environment for all kids. Offering dynamic day and evening classes, summer camps, open gyms, a competitive team and even birthday parties, this gym is designed to meet the needs of any family. Affordable prices are often what the gym is known for as well. When creating the new website, I definitely want to emphasize this! Along with sibling discounts, the fair pricing is something parents will be interested in. I want to recreate this website because from having a first hang experience within this business, I feel that I will be able to successfully portray the sophistication of their program. Although bright colors and blocks of pattern are interesting to the child’s eye, adults are the ones who are going to be looking at the website. I feel as though more subtle colors are needed. When navigating through the site, I found the layout a little awkward because of the various types of background images displayed. I think more unison can be put into the site to make the entire site experience more graceful and fluent. After reading the typography chapter in the Web Style Design website, I realized a big factor of the awkward site flow is due to the inconsistency in typography. By keeping a standard font, size and style throughout the entire site for its headings and subheadings, reading and navigation will be easier.

Mutt & Joe!• The website I chose to create is that of a local shop called Mutt & Joe. This shop is a

combined coffee house and dog groomers! There are two sections to the shop, divided by a door for sanitary reasons, -one to get your dog groomed and the other to enjoy a cup of coffee while you wait! This combined shop opened in September 2010 and has been growing ever since. The dogs are classified by size including, Mini Might, Middle Child, Beefed Up and Big Kahuna and you can get all services from the  Fluff and Buff, which is just a short washing and drying, to a Pet-a-Cure and spa treatment. I would like to try and create a website for this business because I feel that if more people could access their information easily, it would directly benefit their business! This local business has recently broadened its horizons by participating in fundraisers and raffles that support local schools. While creating the website for this fun business, I want to portray an emotion of fun and ease. Dog is said to be a man’s best friend! Through the website I want to make it seem like the purpose of Mutt & Joe is to provide a fun place for man (coffee) and his best friend (dog)! In the several articles I read on this business, Mutt & Joe seems to be a very community friendly environment. Located in the heart of Severna Park, this doggie-coffee shop strives to provide a family centered environment for everyone, including your feline friend. Since there is no current website for this business, I’m excited to portray a fun and new feel to their web publication
