Aplix Corporation Aplix Corporation is a company that specializes in Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology and aims to make feasible a world where all equipment is connected. They provide technology that enables devices with no prior communication functions to connect to other devices using smartphones and networks, in hopes of reaching their goal of “a world with multi-connected-devices”. Founded in 1996, Aplix Corporation took the lead in developing technologically advanced products, and was the first among home electronic companies in Japan to obtain a Java license from Sun Microsystems. Application execution environments such as “JBlend” and “emblend” are widely used on mobile phone and audio-visual equipment all over the world, and are installed on over 800 million devices (Dec 2012). Aplix Corporation provides the platform on which these execution environments are run. Aplix Corporation’s business challenge At Aplix Corporation, some of the existing local servers in the office were removed and in their place, cloud based AWS servers have been implemented in order to efficiently use office space and to properly allocate resources. Through the use of the AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), the Mail Server, File Servers and Information Systems have been migrated to AWS and the volume of cloud computing servers has increased. Some of the notable problems Aplix Corporation faced while growing their business were a network bottleneck and a requirement for a more stable, secure network. Reason for Selecting KVH Services Since the founding of Aplix Corporation, a competitive edge in software development technology has been the core of their business. Pursuing business innovation based on high technological capabilities, software development, server expansion, capacity expansion resulted in increased stress on their developers. In addition, during office relocation due to business expansion, it was essential to have flexibility and short lead time for network construction in order to reduce the down time of critical systems. KVH was selected as a valued network service provider with dedicated pre-sales engineers and specially assigned field engineers consistently offering extensive support from the start of the project, through network design, construction, and all the way through project delivery. KVH offered a dedicated leased line connection to AWS through which it was possible to shorten the down time of critical internal systems.
