‘KURO’ is a denim brand that was launched

during the 2010 spring and summer season. The

brand’s name means ‘black’ in Japanese.

The word ‘black’ can convey a dark, lonely

image, or express a mysterious and grand kind

of strength. For Japanese people, ‘black’ also

represents the color of beautiful hair. All these

inspirations that can be derived from ‘black’ have

been poured into KURO’s denim ware.

Japanese craftsmanship, known as the finest in

the world, is sublimated to the textile spinning,

sewing, dyeing and processing associated with

denim manufacturing. This craftsmanship is

applied to detail and the playfulness of stitch

work is harnessed to create a flowing silhouette.

The brand of “Made in Japan” is stylish and

thoroughly defined, boasting both creative designs

and superior cost performance.

This season marks our 3rd season, and we are

announcing a new model as our first concept line.

The theme of the line is “ time.”

Beginning with the white jeans which are the

origin of denim, the standard indigo jeans that

have created a denim history which extends to the

present, and the black jeans which are an essential

part of modern fashion, KURO has completed

a stylish product by traveling back in time to

reinterpret the essence of denim.

そのブランドネームは、日本語の " 黒 " を意味します。

陰湿、孤独なイメージを与え、また神秘的で威厳があり、

強さを表す色である " 黒 "。そして " 黒 " は私たち日本人

にとって美しい髪の色をも表現します。それら " 黒 " から

受けたあらゆるインスピレーションは、「KURO」のデニ

ムへと注がれました。

紡績や縫製、染色、加工など、デニム作りにおいて世界

最高峰と謳われる日本のクラフトマンシップはディティー

ルへ、ステッチワークという遊びゴコロはは流麗なシル

エットへと昇華し、スタイリッシュかつ徹底的にこだわり

抜かれた「メイド・イン・ジャパン」は、独創的なデザイ

ンと圧倒的なコストパフォーマンスをもっています。

3rd シーズンを迎える今季は、初のコンセプトラインとし

てニューモデルを発表します。掲げたテーマは「時間」。

デニムの発祥であるホワイトジーンズにはじまり、現代に

至るまでのデニム史を作ってきた定番のインディゴジーン

ズ、そして近代ファッションには欠かすことができないブ

ラックジーンズと、時を辿って改めてデニムを解釈した

KURO は、スタイリッシュなプロダクトを完成させました。

M e n s M o d e l s5 Silhouettes of KURO

GRAPHITE is the base model in KURO's denim developments, and can be said to represent the standard for all products. Of the three models developed in the f i rst stage, it s l ine is the slimmest, with both a hip and a depth above clothes that is set at the ideal level to emphasize the length of the wearer's legs. The materials used in KURO's denim maintain the highest levels of quality. In particular, the fabrics produced by Nihon Menpu and Yoshikawa Orimono, used in this model's selvedge (double-edged), can be described as high-quality materials, even when viewed by world standards.

「GRAPHITE( グラファイト )」は KURO がデニムを展開する上でベースとなるモデルであり、全てのプロダクトの基準値になっていると言えます。そのシルエットは KURO が展開するデニムモデルの中で最もスリムであり、ヒップ周りと股上の深さは足を長く見せるよう黄金比に設定されています。また、KURO のデニムに使用されているマテリアルは高水準で維持されており、特にこのモデルに使用されている日本綿布社製と吉川織物社製のセルビッチは、世界水準で見てもハイクオリティーなマテリアルと言えるでしょう。

It's the simplified back pocket and stitching that give CROW their clear cut style. Sharing the same great shape as GRAPHITE, they offer a comfortable fit to the wearer. Made with fabric from Yoshikawa Orimono, CROW's style comes from the fine needle work and stitch spacing only possible with Oikawa Denim.

バックポケットやステッチが単素化され、シャープに仕上がった「CROW( クロウ )」。このモデルはGRAPHITE と同じシルエットに設計されているため、程よいフィット感が得られるでしょう。オイカワデニムだからこそできる細かな運針や縫い幅も魅力で、吉川織物製の生地を使用しています。

Woven on a power loom, th is fabr ic has a characteristically high number of stitches. 14oz. dry denim (Kibata) gives it a typically vintage-style warp and fluffy texture, while it's striking rough qua l it y and leng thwise-fad ing color comes from its Muraito yarn. One might call it a prestigiously made fabric.

力織機で織られ糸の打ち込みが多いのが特徴。14ozの整理加工がされていない生地 ( キバタ ) で、ヴィンテージ特有の捩れや毛羽感、風合いが表現されています。ムラ糸を使用しているため、シボ感や縦方向の色落ちが非常に際立ち、加工栄えする生地と言えるでしょう。

13oz washed denim woven on a power loom. It is a beautiful navy blue and its light weight means it is particularly suited to slim fitting jeans. Factory washing produces a very pleasing lengthwise fading.

力織機で織られた 13oz の整理加工されている生地。濃紺で綺麗な表情が魅力で、オンスが軽いため細めのシルエットと相性が良いのが特徴です。加工後には、程良く綺麗な縦方向の色落ちが生まれます。

KURO introduces a new shape th is season, DEMPSEY, with their tapered line and a waist slightly higher than our other three designs. One might say they are like FIXER around the thigh area, and GRAPHITE below the knee.

「DEMPSEY( デンプシー )」のシルエットは、今シーズンから KURO が新しく提案するものです。テーパードラインに設計され、股上は他の 3 シルエットよりも少し深くなっています。目安としては、腿まわりが FIXER、膝下が GRAPHITE といったところでしょう。

Through its use of Kibata's fabr ics, FIXER recreates the genuine charm that denim naturally has. As they are worn, these jeans take on a so-called 'vintage' look of the 1950s. The FIXER which uses a selvedge, blends well with any kind of style, and is a versatile model made to a slightly thin line.

キバタの生地を使用することで、本来デニムが持っている正統的な魅力を再現した「FIXER( フィクサー )」。履き込んでいくうちに、1950 年代の所謂ヴィンテージと言われているような表情になっていくのが特徴です。セルビッチを使用したこのモデルはどんなスタイリングにも合わせやすい、やや細めのシルエットで構成された万能モデルです。

Recreat ing the genu ine charm that den im naturally has, through its use of Kibata's fabrics, ANARCHISM is notable for its regular depth above clothes and, featuring the most standard line of the three models that KURO has developed in its first season, it is a model made with a selvedge that is suitable for highly active wear. The pockets were stitched with a combination of both fine count (fine thread) and low count (wide thread) threads, known as a no. zero thread (the widest of threads among those used for denim), and were made with great attention given to design as well.

キバタの生地を使用することで、本来デニムが持っている正統的な魅力を再現し、深すぎず浅すぎない、程良い長さで設計された股上が特徴の「ANARCHISM( アナーキズム )」。このモデルにはセルビッチが使用されており、KURO が展開するデニムモデルの中で最もスタンダードなシルエットで作られているため、非常にアクティブに履けるでしょう。ポケット口には、細番手の双糸と太番手の双糸を組み合わせた 0 番糸を使用したステッチが施され、デザイン性も非常に高く仕上がっています。

Without losing any of GRAPHITE's conventional style, we've transformed them into a slim straight version for ladies. The ratio between the hip and the waist has been set with a golden proportion to give length to the legs. These jeans are made with selvage denim from Yoshikawa Orimono.

SKINNY are skinny-fit jeans with a low waist, made with light ounce selvage denim from Nihon Menpu. The stretchable fabric means these jeans are great for an active lifestyle.

従来の「GRAPHITE( グラファイト )」の魅力を消すことなく、レディース用のスリムストレートモデルとして変換しています。ヒップまわりと股上の深さは、足を長く見せるよう黄金比に設定。生地は吉川織物製のセルビッチデニムを使用しています。

スキニータイプのシルエットを採用した「SKINNY( スキニー )」。このモデルにはライトオンスの日本綿布製セルヴィッチデニムを使用し、股上が浅く設定されています。ストレッチを利かせているため、アクティブな動きにも対応できるでしょう。

M a n u f a c t u r i n g● KURO is manufactured by OIKAWA-DENIM famous for its world standard technique.

● We use a two-fold yarn made from single white and golden-brown yarns which gives our products great strength. Because we use cotton yarn, the color fades from the fabric after factory distressing and during use, which produces the feel and look of used clothing.

● The hand-made style stitches on the front, back and coin pockets are the most notable features, and plain seam stitching is also done in the same color. As this technology is only available in a limited number of factories, the manufacturing process is twice as long as is standard.

● Thin yarns were used for parts where hand-stitching was performed, and because needlework was also very f ine, puckering (fabric twists caused due to seam shrinkage by sewing, and pulling) may well appear when washed.

● Belt loops were also sewn in a unique way, with stitching intervals that created bumps to give off a vintage look. As key points such as yarn thickness and stitch width are modif ied, the stitching has a solid, three-dimensional look.

●糸は単糸 ( 金茶 ) と単糸 ( 白 ) を合わせた双糸を使用しているため強度があります。また、綿糸を使用しているため、加工後や履き込んでいくうちに糸の色も抜け、古着のような色や風合いが出ます。

●フロントやバック、コインポケット部分に施されたハンドメイド風のステッチが最大の特徴で、さらに同色の糸で地縫いをしています。これは限られた工場にしかない技術な上、通常に比べ 2 倍の工程を踏むという手間もかかっています。

●ハンドステッチ部分の糸は細めのものを使用しており、運針も細かいため洗いをかけた際にパッカリング ( 縫い縮みやひきつれによる生地のゆがみ ) が出やすくなっています。

●ベルトループにも、ステッチ間に山ができるようなヴィンテージらしい独特の縫製がされています。その他にも、糸の太さやステッチ幅などを要所で変えているため、ステッチが立体的に見えるようになっています。
