Kupang

Wide-scale killing and destruction followed East Timor's vote to become independent of Indonesia.

This resulted in a number of refugee camps holding thousands of destitute people in West Timor in and

around the city of Kupang.

Maria Endang (right) has a heart for the children of refugees from East Timor. In 1999 Maria went to Kupang to minister to

people who were fleeing the violence in East Timor. Over 100,000 of these people have remained in the area of the city of Kupang. Baptists first ministered through the IMB and now

through an Indonesian foundation named Rebana. This foundation was established by the human needs workers

employed in the Jakarta office of the IMB.
