Role and Purposes

Role:

Entrepreneurship is the dynamic process of creating wealth. Entrepreneurship is not

only being entrepreneur. It also builds a mentality of entrepreneur (entrepreneurial

mindset). Peter Drucker, known as "The Father of Modern Management," said

entrepreneurship centers around innovation. "Entrepreneurs need to search

purposefully for the sources of innovation, the changes and their symptoms that

indicate opportunities for successful innovation," "... they need to know and to apply

the principles of successful innovation." (Drucker 1985, 1993, 2006).

An innovation is the implementation of a new or significantly improved product (good

or service), or process, a new marketing method, or a new organizational method in

business practices, workplace organization or external relations (Oslo Manual 2005).

Innovation is a socially and economically successful introduction of a new technology

or a new combination of existing technologies in converting or transforming input into

output such that creating a drastic or significant change in the value and price

relationship according to the perception of consumers and/or users (Fontana, 2009,

2010, 2011).

Role and

Purposes Entrepreneurship activities require energy and passion towards the creation and

implementation of new ideas that are creative and innovative. It takes more than just

a willingness to deal with risks but also developing new ways of thinking towards

innovative products (goods/services); being able to formulate and organize effective

venture teams; being able to adept the creative skill in assembling needed resources;

understanding thebenefits of building feasible business models and plans; and,

finally, the vision to recognize opportunity of various future facilities where others see

as un-wanted changes, chaos, contradiction, or even confusion.

Purposes

To apply the strategic entrepreneurship approach to Innovation and Entrepreneurship

Course at Program Magister Manajemen Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis, Universitas

Indonesia.

• To understand innovation as the instrument of entrepreneurship.

• To enact the method of generating innovative ideas in recognizing business

opportunities, selecting ideas, converting ideas into products, and diffusing them

successfully with an integrated paradigm of a business model.

• To apply the components of a business model based on the enacted method.

• To understand stimulators of successful innovation and entrepreneurship.

• To build a feasible business model, a newly built- or newly-modified business

model.

2. LG 3: ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILL: Students are able to demonstrate oral communication skill

LO: Students are able to present their business ideas properly.

Able to use presentation techniques (body language, facial expression, appropriate voice and tone)

Competence/sub competencies:

• Participants understand the phenomenon of innovation and

entrepreneurship and able to distinguish innovation from

entrepreneurship.

• Orientation: Lecturers explain the trends and phenomena of

innovation and entrepreneurship today. Lecturer digging

experience and knowledge of students about innovation and

entrepreneurship. Lecturers explain the mechanism of lectures

(40%).

• Exercise: Lecturer explains the concept and the example of

innovation and entrepreneurship. Lecturers can refer to Strategic

Entrepreneurship framework models (40%).

• Evaluation: Lecturer evaluates orally or in written to check the

student’s understanding of the material given in this session.

Plagiarism Plagiarism is defined as inserting words/sentences/ideas belonging to other

author(s) in part or in whole without referring to the sources. Students must

indicate the source of any words/sentences from other author/s in his/her writing.

Plagiarism also refers to the copying in part or in whole other student’s

assignment, or copying from books, journals, web, magazines, newspapers, etc.

Plagiarism includes also the act of auto-plagiarism defined as the use of one’s own

words/ sentences/ideas taken from other assignment/paper that have been

submitted for grading in other or the same course without any reference to its/their

source(s).

In accordance to the disciplinary rules and code of ethics for students as indicated

on the Guidebook of FEBUI, students are prohibited to conduct plagiarism, and

will be sanctioned/ punished accordingly.

The sanctions/ punishment are as follows:

• First time offense, the minimum sanction is a zero (0) grades for the assignment

or maximum an F.

• Second time offense, the grade for the course will be an F.

• Third time offense, the student will be expelled from Department of

Management, FEBUI.
