WATER:-
The source of water for power station is reservoir formed by Kota Barrage on the Chambal River.
General Layout & Basic Idea The Kota Thermal Power Station is divided into four main circuits : 1.Fuel and Ash Circuit. 2 .Air and Gas Circuit. 3.Feed water and Steam Circuit. 4.Cooling Water Circuit.
A control system of station basically works on Rankin Cycle.

COAL HANDLING PLANT
It can be called the heart of thermal power plant because it provided the fuel for combustion in boiler. 1.Northern Coal Fields Limited(NCL), 2.South Eastern Coal Fields Limited(SECL)
Coal India limited is supply coal from its coal mines of coal producing subsidiaries SECL & NCL to KSTPS through railway wagons.
Everyday 6 to 7 trains of coal are unloaded at KSTPS.
The approximate per day consumption at KSTPS is about 18000 metric tones.
Coal handling plant
coal is transported to the power station by road and rail and is stored in the coal storage plantThe pulverized coal is fed to the boiler by conveyor beltsFrom the coal storage plant, coal is delivered to the coal handling plant where it is pulverized
Wagon unloading system
Unload the coal from wagon to hopper with the help of wagon Tripler.
Conveyor Belt
Belt are used to convey coal from coal handling plant to furnace.
(b) ASH HANDLING PLANT
This plant can be divided into 3 sub plants as follows:-
1)Fuel and Ash Plant.
2)Air and Gas Plant.
3)Ash Disposal and & Dust Collection Plant
USES ASH:
1.Manufacturing of building materials. 2.Making of concrete. 3.Manufacturing of pozzuolana cement. 4. Road construction
(C). ELECTRO-STATIC PRECIPITATOR
As far as air pollution is concerned now a days various flue gases filter are there in service. These filters are E.S.P. Fabric filter high efficiency cyclone separations and sitelling room.
where the particle size vary from 0.75 microns to 100 micron use gradually use E.S.P. to purify the flue gases due to its higher efficiency & low running cost etc.

TYPES OF TURBINE
It convert heat energy of steam into mechanical energy and drive generator.
It uses the principle the steam when issuing from a small opening attains a high velocity.
6.TURBO GENERATOR THEORY :-
TURBO GENERATOR manufactured by B.H.E.L.
The generator stator is a tight construction, supporting & enclosing the stator windings, core and hydrogen coolers.
The generator is driven by directly coupled steam turbine at a speed of 3000 r. p. m. the Generator is designed for continuous operation at the rated output.
The source of excitation of rotor windings is thyristor controlled D.C. supply.

TRANSFORMER
Transformer is a static device which is used to change the voltage level keeping the power and frequency same. In the plant transformer is one of the most important equipment. It is located in between the main plant and the switchyard.
GENERATOR TRANSFORMER (GT A):-It steps up the voltage from 16.5 KV to 220 KV. It connects the plant with the 220 KV switchyard.
GENERATOR TRANSFORMER (GT B):-It steps up the voltage from 16.5 KV to 400 KV. It connects the plant with the 400 KV switchyard.
STATION TRANSFORMER (ST):-It is a step down transformer with 50 MVA capacities. It is used to step down 220 KV from the grid to 6.9 KV.
AUXILIARY TRANSFORMER (UAT):-It is a step down transformer with 20 MVA capacities. It steps down the voltage from 16.5 KV to 6.9 KV. STATION SERVICE TRANSFORMER (SST):-It is a step down transformer with 2MVA capacity. It is used to step down from 6.6 KV to 0.4333 KV. UNIT SERVICE TRANSFORMER (UST):-It is a step down transformer with 2 MVA capacity. It is used to step down from 6.6 kV to 0.4333 KV.
