KSPC Achieves Another Major Milestone:THE STEAM DRUM LIFTING OF BOILER UNIT NO. 1
epco SPC Power Corporation completed another major project milestone
with the successful lifting of the steam drum of Boiler Unit No. 1 last May 29,
2009. Top management officials of KSPC, Doosan Heavy Industries and its
sub-contractors attended the ceremony held at the construction site.
Before the drum lifting was performed, several preparations were done to make
sure that the activity can proceed smoothly. First, the steel structure was
completed and checked for its structural stability. This is one of the essential
preparations to ensure that the steam drum is properly supported.

econd, the steam drum fabrication was completed on time as earlierscheduled. Third, the steam drum underwent shop inspection tests to make
sure that the drum is of reliable design and construction, and that this could
withstand pressure during operations.
Fourth, the steam drums packaging, transportation, handling and storage
were carefully done to guarantee that there will be no damage to the parts.
Fifth, the equipment used for the lifting was tested to make sure that this is
capable of supporting the drum up to the specified height.
After lifting the drum, pressure parts installation followed. These pressure
parts included water and steam headers and furnace water walls, among
others.

Coal Silo Shell Lifting of Boiler Unit No. 1
fter the steam drum lifting, the coal silo shell lifting of Boiler Unit No. 1
followed last June 5, 2009.
The coal silo is one of components of the fuel feeding system. It provides
temporary storage of crushed coal for continuous operation. The coal silo is
composed of the top frame, shell, middle shell, cone and chute.
Of these components, the coal shell is the only part fabricated at the
construction site. The rest were fabricated at the contractors shops.
Meanwhile, the two coal silo shells were lifted and installed in the boiler
structure and then connected to the silo cone.
Before the shells were lifted, the shell plate dimensions, diameter, welded
connection and painting quality, among other parameters were inspected to
make sure that the specification was properly followed.

Several preparations were also made before the coal silo shell lifting was
conducted. The cone-chute-middle shell assembly was lifted first since it islocated below the shell. The top frame was also installed above the shell as
part of the fabrication plan.
Lifting the shell was not easy because the winds may cause the shell to
abruptly swing and trigger the collision of the steel structure and the shell. If
this happens, the shell and the steel structure may be damaged.
The other works related to the fuel handling system are now proceeding as
scheduled.

Shop Test for Steam Turbine
he steam turbine is one of the most important equipment in the operation
of the Cebu Power Plant. To make sure that all of its major parts will perform
to its designed working condition, it is inspected and tested using the following
methods: hydraulic pressure test, assembly inspection, over speed & dynamic
balancing test, function test for actuators, ultrasonic inspection of generator
rotor, and seat contact check for valves, among others.
The inspection and test of Cebu Power Plants steam turbine was performed in
Japan where it is manufactured. This was done in the presence of the supplier,
representatives of Doosan and KSPC in accordance with the approved Shop
Inspection Test Plan and EPC Contract.
Prior to the activities, the Shop Test Procedures were submitted for KSPCs
approval. This started last February 25, 2009 while the succeeding tests were
done after each test had been carried out and had satisfactorily passed the
criteria.

Successful Completion of theChimney Concrete Shell
or about a month of round-the-clock
construction, the chimney concrete shell
was successfully completed. The
construction of the chimney shell using
the modern slip forming technology
started on May 4, 2009 and was finished
on June 9, 2009 with the combined effort
of a team of two dozen Korean and Filipino
men led by a Hungarian. Blessed with a
good weather, works on the reinforced
concrete shell proceeded smoothly without
any interruption.

Completion of the ChimneyConcrete Shell (cont.)
After the successful erection of the reinforced concrete shell, the final works ofthe main structure of the chimney will follow. This will include the
construction of its duct opening, the inner lining, stairs and platforms, among
others. Surely, the 110-meter high chimney will permanently change the
skyline of Naga and will standout as the landmark of KSPCs Cebu Power Plant.
