Overview

On Wednesday, March 29, 2017, the 1st collective Kansas Community Health Worker Coalition meeting was held in Topeka, KS at the Ramada-Topeka, Downtown from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm. There were 57 participants present, 7 of which joined via phone or web. The participants represented 26 organizations from across the state. Key decisions made included:

A. Individuals and leadership were introduced. B. Tom Mirás Neira was elected as the coalition co-chair. C. The Advocacy, Education, and Symposium Committee co-chairs gave updates. D. There was a call for involvement where 23 people joined committees that they weren’t

already part of. E. The Coalition logo design was selected. F. Participants selected their preference for meeting frequency and style.

This information was presented in ways that Icould clearly understand.

All - very good & fun

Good attendance, but no substance

Group discussions

Keeping with agenda and moving things along, still have enough time to participate and discuss

Networking (x2)

Introductions - that was the best set of "fun facts" ever

Time to network, learning what others are doing

Interactive sessions

Identify what we can do as a coalition & introduction to get to know each other at the end

Brainstorming together - need more of this

Getting to know each other (x2)

The group activity today

Round the room introductions should happen at every meeting

Voting and breakout sessions as well as introductions

Included in fun activities; liked the voting clickers

The people at the meeting, the purpose of the meeting

Democratic decisions, introductions, networking, next steps.

How they care about everyone's input

It was good that the meeting was very interactive, giving everyone an opportunity to be heard.

Yes, the information was clear. I liked the interaction and the opportunity to break into small groups to share ideas.

I would continue to work towards the development of a curriculum that will empower CHWs to become even better at what we do and to be recognized as the bridges between the population and the healthcare organizations.

Definitely, I really appreciate the committee that makes possible to organize the group of people who have an important role in the wellbeing of the communities across the state.

The opportunity to hear from all the different organizations present at the meeting and to sense the passion to serve for a collective wellbeing of our people.

Please tell us how to improve for the next meeting:

Keep doing the introductions so we really remember who we are

Better clarification of the meeting location! See: Madison Ballroom on invites

Introductions in beginning of all - survey results & action items from subcommittees

More actual discussion of key issues and less activities. We had a ton to discuss but chose to engage in activities.

It was a little difficult to hear at times.

More time

Provide contact numbers with committee info (dates & locations of meetings)

I liked option C for logo, colors as shown

Location?

Maybe have less tables/chairs set up & set them up as needed so room feels more intimate, so we are now so spread out. Color selection for logo - NOT RED & BLUE, purple would look good though. I do not believe that I receive the CHW newsletter.

Have light snacks - it’s a 2 hour meeting, please!

Every part of it was great!

By serving lunch due to the time falling at lunch time

Allow for comments from those on the phone, not just the presenters on the phone.

It was really hard to hear what was going on in the room on the phone. It will be helpful to have a microphone that speakers can use so that those on the phone can follow the meeting.

The conference call in line was not very audible. Due to the difficulty hearing, I was not able to participate at the level that I would prefer.

I am very committed to the KS CHW program. I will need to touch base with Alissa and/or Rebecca for action items.

I’m concerned we are moving too fast. The current leadership represents only 1 part of the state. More time should be taken to determine proper representation to each committee.

I think it was a productive meeting and we all had the opportunity to share and provide ideas. I don’t have suggestions at this time.
