Guiding Light for Floating Souls by Daniel Settelen

Danjiri festivals are some of Japan's most enchanting spectacles, and the most revered of them all is held just a stone's throw away from us Kansai dwellers in the south Osaka town of Kishiwada.

The famous Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri dates back to 1703 when the town's daimyo (feudal lord), Okabe Nagayasu, created a festival to pray to shinto gods for a bountiful harvest. The festival's popularity grew rapidly as, for this short period, the otherwise strict-ly-prohibited locals were permitted into the castle's grounds to drag danjiri (portable shrines) through the area. The competitive nature that spawned from attempts to outdo each other before the eyes of the daimyo has since evolved into the modern-day festival, in which armies of young men from surrounding neighborhoods heave their danjiri through the town in an exhibition of strength, agility and brav-ery. But what is it that makes Danjiri Matsuri unique among the thousands of festivals in the Japanese calendar?

Arriving in Kishiwada at the stroke of 10am, the streets are already jam-packed with people, but luckily I manage to squeeze into a prime spot outside the station where the festival is filmed for national TV. Excite-ment and anticipation fills the air as well as the aroma from the myriad of street vendors selling everything from Indian cuisine to Brazilian barbecue to the staple Kansai treats okonomiyaki and takoyaki. The danjiri have been touring other parts of town since 6am when the hiki-dashi, or “opening pull”, signalled the beginning of the festival. Now, the hayashi; the drum and flute music played on the floats, echoes from out of sight, growing ever louder to signal their imminent arrival to the main street.

The crowd erupts as the first of many danjiri comes into view, lugged by dozens of men dressed immaculately in their troop's traditional uniform. The floats themselves are four-ton colossal works of art made exclusively of keiyaki (zelkova) wood and interest-ingly, without the use of a single nail.

Each group's danjiri is adorned with carvings called horimono which depict scenes from historical battles and add further to their majestic beauty. But just as I find myself getting lost in the intricate patterns, I’m snapped out of it by the intensified beating of taiko (drums). The action is about the begin. The troop stops and the ropes used to haul the floats become taut and the ubiquitous chanting loudens. Suddenly, in an explosion of flutes and cheers the danjiri is pulled to running speed and made to skid around the corner; the man on the float's roof, the daiku-gata, jumps and dances athletically while desperately trying not to lose balance and fall to his death like some have in years past.

This exhilarating performance is re-peated as different troops parade along the main street, looking increasingly exhausted as the sweltering day draws on. At this point I took the opportunity to talk with Masaharu Ishikawa, a vet-eran of the Nimura troop in Takaishi City's festival. He talks about what dan-jiri events mean to their participants:

"I have pride in my danjiri group because we represent my hometown, Higashi Hagoromo. My uncle, cousin and best friends are all in the same group and it's this sense of camarade-rie that makes danjiri very important to us. I'm sure other groups feel the same way, but I think my group is the best and the most fun."

Masaharu reveals that troops begin training twice a week in the months before the festival, increasing their regime to a gruelling 1-3 hours of run-ning and pulling practice every day in the final few weeks.

“Turning corners is especially ex-hausting and it takes a lot of practice, but it's worth it because the festival is so exciting! Afterwards, all the girls want to take pictures with us

and at night my group and I barbe-cue together.”

As day turns to night the festival does indeed grow more benign. The pace slows as the danjiri are embel-lished with lanterns and coaxed through the streets in a procession resembling a Disneyland parade. The mobile shrines are then parked togeth-er for everyone to admire closely, the hiyashi music still whistling tenderly in the background as the stars of the show take a well-deserved rest. The dazzling Kishiwada Danjiri Matsuri is over for another year, but not to worry, because luckily Kansai is awash with danjiri festivals throughout October that, al-though not quite as famous as this one, make up for in convenience what they lack in size. Forget about arriving early for a spot or having to fight through a sea of people to get to a food stall. These later festivals are ideal for a more laid-back weekend jaunt where one can still experience danjiri at its truest, just in a more intimate atmosphere.

Upcoming Danjiri Festivals:

Kishiwada CityWhat to expect: Kishiwada’s more spiritual danjiri festival. Exhibits 47 floats as opposed to the September festival’s 34.Oct 11 (6-10pm), Oct 12 (7-10pm) Access: Around Kumeda, Shimomatsu and Higashi Kishiwada Stns on the JR Hanwa line

Takaishi CityWhat to expect: A more grassroots danjiri festival with less TV cameras and more of a homely vibe.Oct 11 (2-5pm), Oct 12 (9-11am, 1-5pm) Access: Nankai Line, Takaishi Stn, East Exit

Sakai City What to expect: Similarly under-publicised when compared to Kishiwada’s matsuri, experience the pride and passion of the people of Sakai.Oct 3, 5,11 & 12 (afternoon-evening)Access: With so many shrines along these routes, the best bet is to get to JR Sakai Stn and follow the crowds to the nearby viewing spots.

Nada no Kenka “fighting” Danjiri festival, Himeji CityWhat to expect: If Kishiwada’s festival is dangerous then this is outright carnage. Watch as the different troops ferociously clash their danjiri together. Fight on!Oct 11 & 12 (all day)Access: Matsubara Hachiman Shrine; 3-min walk from Shirahamanomiya Stn on the Sanyo Dentetsu honsen line

Left: Two danjiri passing each other in a narrow street (c. 1950). These days, there is a strict one-way traffic policy in place to prevent injuries and death as a result of collisions. Although there are no records to confirm the exact number, it is said that well over forty people have been killed even since 1898.(Photo courtesy Kishiwada Danjiri Museum)

Seeking Ghosts of the PastExploring abandoned places is definitely not for the easily spooked.

Danger, mystery, and even wildlife lurk in these eerie, deserted sites

around Kansai.

Text & Images: Florian Seidel

I felt “Lost”. It was a hot and humid summer’s day, about six weeks after the controversial finale of that infamous TV show – and I was hiking up a rocky path in search of an abandoned dam. Down the slope next to me were the concrete leftovers of turbine mountings, leading to a rather small concrete dam.

Right next to it, on the other side of the narrow valley, stood a small, wooden building. It was little more than a shack. I peeked through an opening there to find an electronic device glowing red numbers in the dark. All I could think of was 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42!

Seconds later, less than a meter away from me, a huge tree branch crashed loudly to the ground. I was relieved not

to hear any voices whispering in the background, but the atmosphere was dramatic and spooky to say the least.

Some people would flee at this eerie form of welcome, but it’s just another adventure for a committed urban explorer. Urban exploration – visit-ing abandoned sites – is definitely not a hobby for the faint of heart. Even though you’re often in the middle of nowhere, without the worry of nosy neighbors, active alarm systems, or conscientious cops, it’s dangerous to go poking around deserted buildings.

Just because there are no other people around, doesn’t mean you’re entirely alone. Have you ever been hit in the head by a suzumebachi (a giant hornet)? Or been chased by a wild boar in spring? Neither is a pleasant experi-

ence. Since I started urban exploration in 2009, I’ve encountered spiders, snakes, leeches, monkeys, and tanuki (Japanese Raccoon Dog).

Wildlife aside, the sites themselves – being no longer in the care of safety inspectors – are full of health hazards. Rusty metal and brittle wood can mean the next step is the last step you’ll make for a while, if you’re not careful. Aban-doned buildings are liable to collapse at any time.

Danger lurks behind every corner, but the thrill of seeing a historic spot – and maybe even a spook – is what keeps me going back. Here are some of the creepiest abandoned spots I’ve explored to date.

Page 15: KS #173 October 2014

KANSAI SCENE MAGAZINE | ISSUE #173 OCTOBER 2014 | kansaiscene.com 15

The Creepy HospitalA tuberculosis hospital for children is one of the creepiest abandoned places possible, especially when the building still holds all the equipment and patient files. The first time I ventured out near Kansai Airport to visit the place, I had to leave without having achieved anything as the whole building complex was still in pristine condition and tightly closed. Respectable urban explorers take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints; and they definitely don’t break into buildings.

Upon my return three years later, I was shocked to see that the place had been severely vandalized. It’s not like somebody forced open a window to have a peek inside – pretty much every door was busted open and at least every second window smashed. Luckily a few rooms survived more-or-less un-harmed, including a small storage area next to the clinic’s swimming pool. Sev-eral boxes full of files not only offered written information about countless patients, but X-rays too.

The Tragic Theme ParkExpoland in Suita was first constructed as the amusement ride area of Expo ’70, the world fair hosted in Osaka. It remained a permanent installation after the Expo ended, until a 19-year-old student from Shiga prefecture died in a rollercoaster accident in 2007.

Two years later it was announced that Expoland would be partly demolished, and some of the rides were sold to other parks. In late 2013 the removal of the remaining structures (includ-ing buildings, staircases and a water park) began, to make space for the new Gamba Osaka stadium. Nowa-days there’s not much to see, but for more than six years Expoland’s ruined remains attracted ghost hunters and urban explorers alike.

The Collapsing MineHands down the most dangerous abandoned place in all of Kansai must be Kasuga Mine, east of Lake Biwa. It’s the only mine I know of where the actual shaft is still accessible, not just a few remaining buildings. Taking photos in complete darkness, with only a dim flashlight to help me, I wasn’t fully aware what I was getting into. Once safely back at home, I was inspecting the pictures and realized that most of the wooden support beams were rot-ting away, and some of the side tunnels had already collapsed.

The Enshrined ShrineReligious facilities can give off a spooky vibe even when still in use, but they definitely have a unique atmosphere when abandoned. Shuuhen Temple, just a few kilometers outside Himeji, has been abandoned for at least ten years now, yet the electricity coun-ter within the monks’ former living quarters was still active upon my visit in 2011. I remember the fading sunlight giving the vandalized interior a rather uneasy appearance.

Subterranean ShrineShuuhen Temple, however, was nothing compared to the Subterranean Shrine,

which a friend took me deep inside the mountains of the Suzuka Quasi-National Park to see. A heavy metal gate protected the entrance to a cave, or adit, which itself was hidden behind thickening vegetation. Past the gate, dozens of huge insects and other crit-ters swarmed the floor, walls, and even the ceiling. Soon the tunnel was pitch-black and we had to rely on our fading flashlights. About 80 meters deep into the mountain, the tunnel opened up and turned into a room 15 by 15 meters – this wasn’t an abandoned mining tunnel, this was made for a special purpose. In the room, we found two stone tables surrounded by a couple of stone stools – and the remains of rusty lightbulb sockets. Further ahead there was an opening in the wall, some kind of altar, decorated with plates, vases and two busts, depicting old Japanese men in business suits. Sadly we had to leave in a hurry because of time restraints, and despite great efforts to unravel the history of the place, it still remains a mystery to me.

Abandoned KansaiThese creepy hotspots are just a few of the ones Florian has explored. For reports on countless more locations, plus photos and videos, check out abandonedkansai.com or facebook.com/abandonedkansai

Explorers Beware!Urban exploration is a hazardous hobby that involves all kinds of dangers – if you explore, do your research first, and be aware that you do so entirely at your own risk.

Make a date with Lady Luck and play the

night away at Osaka’s premier casino experience.

Text: Jason Haidar • Images: Jack and Queen

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to sit at a roulette table, champagne flute in hand, hoping you’re in Lady Luck’s favor as the ball flies furiously round the wheel?

Regular Vegas visitors know that casinos aren’t just for the likes of James Bond – but of course, gambling is ille-gal here in Japan. Combining the thrill of a high-rolling atmosphere, while abiding strictly by the law, Jack and Queen is a new breed of casino that’s newly opened this summer in Osaka. Pay a set price on entry and play away!

Step inside and you’ll see they’ve re-created the look and feel of a swanky Vegas casino in Shinsaibashi. Complete with two large rooms, a main area, and a very exclusive VIP room, you can find all your favorite adult games of chance; Texas Hold’em Poker, Bac-carat, Blackjack, and Roulette.

Here’s how the money works: there’s a ¥5,000 cover charge for men and ¥2,000 for ladies, which comes with $30 in chips and $20 in chips respec-tively. The main thing to remember is that while you can buy additional chips to stay in the game, you cannot cash in your chips at the end of the night. Nei-ther can you exchange them for food or drink items. That’s how they manage to keep it all within the law. They

even throw in a free drink and food voucher (up to ¥1,000 for each before 8pm and ¥1,000 for drinks after 8pm) with your entry. You can choose your poison from an extensive selection of spirits, wines, beers and champagnes, ranging from your standard fare to top-shelf bottle service for those with the means and desire for the full im-mersive experience.

Trick or Treat! The time of year has come again for trendy tricks and tasty treats and cosplay madness in the streets. Many Japanese and foreigners alike love to don a costume (kosuchuumu) or outfit (ishou) and take to the streets for all-night parties and Halloween tomfoolery.

On your adventures this Halloween, you’re bound to see a witch (majo) or two, pirates (kaizoku), skeletons (gaikotsu), ghosts (yuurei) and, well, despite his reputation Waldo is never hard to find. Watch out for vampires (kyuketsuki), and find out who’s under that mummy (miira) costume before you accuse a friend of not making it to the party!

October 31st and surrounding dates boast some of Japan’s biggest parties of the year, so don’t miss out. While you’re browsing shop shelves or sitting on the couch, needle and thread in hand, why not practice turning some phrases for the occasion? And a good one to try on people throughout the month: Kotoshi no harouiin no kosuchuumu nani wo kiru no? (What are you going to dress as this Halloween?).

Trendy & TastyConveniently located on Midosuji street is Brooklyn Parlor, a trendy, new, all-in-one restaurant, bar, and café. This very large, open-plan space still maintains an intimacy conducive to conversation and relaxation. Settle in with a good book and a latte or organic tea on one of the many cozy couches, or prepare for a night on the town with one of their distinct house cocktails or unique import beers. The menu boasts a well-priced and delicious appetizers selection – try the buffalo wings (¥800 for 10 pieces). Main dishes include salads, steaks, pastas and burgers, with notable standouts such as the foie gras burger that comes drizzled in a delectable house-made honey mustard sauce and a side of fries for ¥1,700. Just make sure to save room for something off the delicious dessert menu. If you’re having trouble deciding, go for the classic New York cheesecake – you’ll be glad you did.

Nestled in the heart of Shinsaibashi is Elk, a laid-back café where the pancakes are made from scratch and served all day. For something hearty, try the eggs benedict pancake with bacon, smothered in hollandaise sauce for ¥1,400. For some-thing sweet, go for the chocolate, nuts and banana brulee pancake, topped with whipped cream, nuts and a special chocolate syrup. Purists will be happy with the classic take, plain with butter or maple syrup, and even happier with the all-you-can-eat special for ¥1,000 between 10am–12pm daily. If you go on a weekday, you can order your cap-puccino to come with an adorable 3D foam bear or rabbit peeking out from the mass of froth at the top.

There is an assortment of snack foods like pizzas and panini, with a daily ¥550 panini special. If your sweet tooth gets the best of you, the dessert menu will surely fix that – try the ¥500 tiramisu or an Italian cookie for ¥380. A Most Wanted ManAnton Corbijn, Thriller, 122 mins, Oct 17

Starring: Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rachel McAdams, Daniel Bruhl, Willem Dafoe,

Robin Wright

The late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman is at his best in A Most Wanted Man, but it is by no means the best Hoffman movie. Hoffman plays Gunther Bachmann, a German intelligence agent who is cursed with invariably being the most intelligent man in any given room, while bearing the weight of the world on his shoulders. Hoffman plays him perfectly, smugly smart and weary of buffoons who either interfere in his business or have the gall to actually disagree with him.

Bachmann, for the most part, sees these people as obstacles in his way, but the viewer is shown a very broad supporting cast, all of which are weaved into a narrative which is complex, but that never seems convoluted or difficult to follow. Rachel McAdams and Willem Dafoe both give one of their best performances yet, while Robin Wright is amazing as Martha Sullivan, an American flown in from the Berlin Embassy to oversee the proceedings.

The film is a tense, slow burner which puts forward two very convincing cases. On one hand, we have those wanting to bring a potentially dangerous man into custody, while on the other, Bachmann pushes for more time to allow more information to come about. Intelligence is his currency and he is always looking to increase his capital.

For the most part, the film does an excellent job of drawing the viewer into this highly realistic storyline; but there are flaws. Most notable and jarring are the scenes in which “German” characters talk to one another in accented English. Scenes in which American characters are present obviously ring true, but for a film striving for realism, it does seem odd that English is ever present. Those looking for the action of Bourne will also be left wanting, but this is a thought-provoking testament to the lost talent of Hoffman.

The EqualizerAntoine Fuqua, Action, 131 mins, Oct 25Starring: Denzel Washington, Marton Csokas, Chloë Grace MoretzAlthough the film has a slow start, it picks up quickly later on and doesn’t slacken the pace. Imagine a black, middle-aged Batman with a hardware store full of blunt objects to choose from.

Grace of MonacoOlivier Dahan, Biography, 103 mins, Oct 18Starring: Nicole Kidman, Tim Roth, André PenvernDramatized bio-flicks are no longer the flavor of the month in Hollywood and this one won’t be winning over any new fans. Beautiful to look at but with very little depth, the film simply does not do Grace Kelly justice.

© Universal Pictures

A Million Ways to Die in the WestSeth MacFarlane, Comedy, 116 mins, Oct 10Starring: Seth MacFarlane, Charlize Theron, Liam NeesonOne of the biggest complaints about Family Guy is that cutaways are often random. This film suffers from the same problem – it’s two hours of flimsily stitched together funny skits, with none of the narrative focus of Ted.

© 2014 Paramount Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures. All Rights Reserved.

HerculesBrett Ratner, Action, 98 mins, Oct 24Starring: Dwayne Johnson, John Hurt, Ian McShaneWith such rich source material to choose from, it is odd that most ancient Greek movies miss the mark. This movie has lore, action and blood by the bucketful, but a clear lack of depth.

GO_SUKE – with beer, wine, cocktails, and

tasty Napoli-style pizzas for everyone!

Text: Kansai Scene • Images: KS and GO_SUKE

With fall underway and winter on its way, it’s only a matter of time before the people of Kansai are seeking cosy spaces and hearty cuisine to warm their souls, and provide a haven from the chilly cold-season temperatures.

Holding an event soon? Let GO_SUKE, one of Umeda’s newest casual dining bars, take care of it. Manager Gosuke Asada has created a unique place for his guests; with a funky wooden interior, the use of real wood for furniture, and also fuel for the pizza oven, creates a comfy, rich and vibrant atmosphere.

GO_SUKE is suitable for a range of different kinds of events because of the differences in upstairs and downstairs spaces. The downstairs area allows guests to mingle with ease because of the open-plan layout and the large tables and benches that dominate the room.

Upstairs is a somewhat different affair; the atmosphere is more low-key

with softer music, intimate lighting and more sophisticated décor. One large table encourages shared seating, and is the perfect setting for a party or work event, with the use of the ameni-ties (projector, mic and screen) at no extra charge.

Good prices and quality ingredients are guaranteed. The dough base for their selection of Napoli-style pizza is made from 100 percent imported Italian flour. Each pizza is freshly made and cooked in a custom-built, wood-fired oven.

For drinks, in addition to standard beers and spirits, the menu offers 40 organic wines, a variety of house cocktails, and novel beverages such as their test-tube concoctions (¥1,800). GO_SUKE has a unique bottle policy; buy a bottle of spirits and they’ll keep it free of charge for six months, throwing in free ice and soda water while it lasts.

Live Music

KSPickJeff Lang

Jeff Lang is an Australian roots singer-songwriter and multi-instru-mentalist (guitar, banjo, drums and mandolin) who describes his music as “disturbed folk.” Incorporating folk, blues, and rock & roll along with Indian and African musical modes, he has been credited with a rather unorthodox way of amplifying his guitar. Using his microphone and built-in pickups and effects, Lang runs this through an electric guitar amp to achieve both acoustic and distorted electric tones. This style has been influential to other roots musicians in Australia, such as John Butler.

Lang’s latest album, I Live In My Head A Lot These Days came out in May, and Rolling Stone magazine said: “Lang’s music is both vivid and visceral.”

Kim Shattuck said recently that the songs on the new album were written between 2006 and 2010 and that her goal for the future is “...to keep putting out records with The Muffs.” Better not leave us waiting another ten years for the next album in that case!

CJ RamoneThis past September marked the 25th Anniversary of Christopher Joseph Ward becoming CJ Ramone. To celebrate the anniversary of his role as bassist with world-renowned punk band the Ramones, CJ released the single Understand Me?. His record label described it as a “head-bopping, me-lodic, garage-punk screed addressed to an unnamed listener who really doesn’t seem to understand him.”

He released a solo album this year Last Chance to Dance, his second fol-lowing the 2012 Reconquista.

Since the Ramones retired in 1996, CJ has kept himself busy playing with the bands Los Gusanos (a garage-punk band that actually started in 1992) and then Bad Chopper up until 2009. Being the youngest Ramone means we can expect a lot more to come from this man.

Dinosaur Pile-UpFrom the city of Leeds in England, Di-nosaur Pile-Up came together in 2007 and by 2009 they had already landed a support tour slot with the well-known indie group Pixies.

Their debut album Growing Pains was actually recorded alone by front man guitarist Matt Bigland, after the other two members of the trio depart-ed. Drummer Mike Sheils was drafted in as part of the live tour band to back the album and is still a part of the dino fold. Current bassist Jim Cratchley only joined the band this year after a num-ber of personnel changes on bass.

Musically, Dinosaur Pile-Up are reminiscent of the early 90s Seattle grunge sound and they name influ-ences such as Nirvana, Foo Fighters and Smashing Pumpkins.

Just in case you’re wondering, the band’s name came from a scene in the most recent remake of the movie King Kong which involves a dinosaur pile-up.

The Royal ConceptSwedish band The Royal Concept are coming to Japan this autumn after having released their debut album Goldrushed here back in April. The four-piece first came together in 2010 and have had a successful four years. KS spoke with vocalist-guitarist David Larson about their upcoming gigs.

This isn’t the first time you’ve performed live in Japan, is it?No, because we were actually lucky enough to play at Sum-mer Sonic 2013 both in Osaka and Tokyo. That’s when we fell in love with the country and Japanese music lovers. All the shows we have played in Japan so far have been absolutely top shows for us, filled with smiling, love-giving people and that means so much to us!

It’s difficult to pigeonhole The Royal Concept into a spe-cific genre, but how would you describe the band’s sound? It is difficult, both for us and for others. We recently heard a blog describing us as “indie, dance rockers” and that felt like a kinda good way of saying it. But genres don’t mean anything really. We never talk about it when we write or play together. Music is music and it’s one of the most important and beautiful universal languages. If you think of it that way, genres don’t mean anything.

What’s next for The Royal Concept? Is a follow-up album in the pipeline?Yes, there is a follow-up in the pipeline. We’re actually based in Los Angeles now and will work on new songs 24/7. I can’t give you any release date or reveal any secrets about it, other than that we’re really excited about it so far.

As well as recording this album, we’ll also play three exclu-sive shows this fall, all of them in Japan. And the only reason for that is that we felt like we just need to get back there to see the Japanese fall and meet our friends again.

Ai KawashimaAlthough she started out as an enka singer, Japanese pop singer-songwriter-pianist Ai Kawashima soon moved on from this genre after her 1999 debut single bombed. Not to

be deterred, she set up stage on the streets of Shibuya singing her own songs. This determination to succeed eventually lead to the release of her single Asueno To-bairu (Door to Tomorrow) as vocalist in the duo I Wish, which sold over 900,000 copies.

I Wish went their separate ways in 2005 and Ka-washima has since carved out a successful solo career.

Aside from music, the singer has put a great deal of time and effort into a project to build schools in devel-oping countries. She’s also faced tragedy in the past, los-ing her mother to illness when she was just three years old. Such pluck and determination means Kawashima could well be seen as a role model, especially to a gen-eration that is swamped with plastic idols and conveyor belt produced pop music.

Santa Maria All aboard! On Sunday October 26th, the Osaka Bay cruise ship Santa Maria will transform into a one-night-only float-ing nightclub. The ship is fully equipped with sound systems, a dance floor, bar service, and top-notch DJs.

It also brings Argentinian house producer Guti to Osaka for the first time. Fusing electronic music with his jazz and latin roots, he quickly became one of hottest producers of the Latino American house scene. Loco Dice was the first to notice Guti’s talent and he released the debut album Patio de Juegos from Loco’s respected Desolat imprint. He has also released tracks on Luciano’s Cadenza, Guy Gerber’s Supple-ment Facts and Satoshi Tomiie’s Saw Recordings to name just a few. Japanese drum and bass icon, DJ Aki and nu jazz/house legend Yoshihiro Okino from Kyoto Jazz Massive will also join the cruise. If you want to take a break from the dance floor, the upper deck offers a breathtaking night view of Osaka Bay.

The party boat leaves the pier at 6:30pm sharp so make sure you get there by 6pm. It’s a pre-Halloween party so feel free to dress up in your favorite costume!
