Sisters and Brothers of the Southwest District,

It is with great honor that I present my platform for the position of Vice President of Special Projects for the Southwest District of Tau Beta Sigma for your consideration.

My journey in Tau Beta Sigma began in the Fall of 2013 with the Xi chapter of Tau Beta Sigma at West Texas A&M University. Throughout my time in Tau Beta Sigma, I have learned many things about myself and those around me. This organization has shaped me into the person that I am now and I think it’s time for me to step up and give back to this organization and district that

has given so much to me.

Through my time with the xi chapter, I have served as the Parliamentarian from Fall 2014-2015, the President from 2015-2016, the Assistant Vice President from 2016-2017. This year I am serving as the chapter’s Vice President of Membership Education and in the Fall, I had the honor and privilege of guiding 12 candidates into the chapter. It has been through this journey of being a membership educator that I feel I have finally realized that there is more that I can be doing for this organization that I love so much.

I have attended several workshops, Southwest District conventions, as well as National Convention this past summer. Every year, I leave these events with more knowledge to impart upon my chapter and have seen Xi improve by leaps and bounds. Every year, I also leave these events with a renewed passion for service and sisterhood and, quite frankly, I thought this year was going to be my last year. I’m currently finishing my undergraduate degree in music

education, but had already intended on returning for my master’s degree. This semester, through

student teaching, growing closer with my chapter, and through all the things I keep learning and all the ways I see we can continue to improve and grow, I realized my journey is not done yet. There is still so much that I can do and give back and that is why I have decided to submit this packet for your consideration for the position of Vice President of Special Projects.

As the district’s VPSP, I hope to continue several of the projects that have already been in place for the last couple of years, including photo contests, compiling photos across the district for our scrapbook, as well as promoting and encouraging new submissions to our district publication. It is my intention, should I be elected as Vice President of Special Projects, to emphasize participation in submitting to the New ALTO by providing examples of past articles and step-by-step guides so that people see how easy and painless it really is to submit articles.

One of the biggest things I would like to accomplish as your VPSP is to revitalize the district’s

Instagram and use it to promote events going on throughout the chapters of our district and really showcase the wonderful things some of our chapters are doing in terms of service and sisterhood. This is an idea inspired by the things I have seen with the national Instagram for Tau Beta Sigma. I would also like to reach out to other district officers across the nation who hold this office, or a similar one, and see what we can do to bring new ideas over to our own district in terms of worthwhile projects.

Coming from the Xi chapter and seeing where we have come from and the bright future we have ahead of us, I believe I can offer a new, fresh perspective, especially for chapters who could use

a little more motivation to participate on a district level or for those chapters who may not know how or where to start changing things in their chapters for the better.

The Southwest District is amazingly unique and spirited and well deserving of the title “The

Spicy Southwest”. It would be an honor to serve to a greater capacity and help others get there

too. Thank you for your consideration.

Much love in the bond,

Krystal Muñoz Tau Beta Sigma – Xi

Candidacy Platform

As previously stated, if I am elected as the Southwest District’s Vice President of Special Projects, I will

strive to continue, in conjunction with KKPsi’s Vice President of Projects, our Bands for Change

initiative as well as several of the projects already in place, such as:

Photo contests: themed photo contests will continue, at least once per month and will be centered on our qualities and essential factors, service, sisterhood, performances, and degrees, in order to compile photos for our district scrapbook. I will personally contact the Historians of chapters who have not participated in photo contests or who have had low levels of participation in order to have as many photos as possible from as many different chapters in the district as possible.

Focus on Five: I will continue to promote our national program with frequent reminders of deadlines and due dates for stripes and lyre pieces by utilizing Facebook and Instagram. Something new I would like to try is posting pictures submitted by other chapters of their completion of the stripes and lyre pieces designated for the Coda project, Crescendo, and Women in Music in order to recognize those chapters who have completed those requirements and providing examples and encouragements for chapters who have not yet completed those.

New ALTO: as VPSP, I will continue to promote, advertise for, and encourage chapters to submit articles to the district publication. For chapters and members who have never participated, they might not know what to expect when submitting an article or what to write about and may not have ever even taken a moment to look through it when it gets released every semester. If elected, I want to try and place more of an emphasis on our publication because it’s one of the best ways to see what is going on in other chapters

across the district. I would also like to create a brief guide on how and what to submit to the district publication.

District Instagram: One of my goals as VPSP is to do more with the district’s Instagram page. It’s the

perfect platform to make shout-outs to chapters who are doing an awesome job in service and sisterhood and showcasing the Spicy Southwest. Much like the national Instagram page, I would like to reach out to them and see how they go about executing their Instagram takeovers because I think it’s a unique idea and

an awesome way to show off the chapters and members of our district. The district Instagram would also be used to advertise rituals, deadlines, workshops, convention, and our district publication, and other events across the district as it has been.

Along with these projects that I will promote and expand upon, I would also like to host student chats that are geared towards helping chapters come up with worthwhile service projects, as well as student chats to help chapters with socials, bonding, sisterhood, and team building because these are topics very near and dear to my heart.

As the Southwest District’s VPSP, I would also like to reach out to other VPSP’s or council members

across the nation with a similar position in order to get new ideas for worthwhile projects and bring them to our own district.

Respectfully submitted,

Krystal Muñoz

Xi Chapter W.T. Box 60879 West Texas A&M Uni. West Texas A&M University Canyon, TX 79015 United States To whom it may concern,

It is our absolute pleasure as a chapter to recommend Krystal Munoz for the position of Vice President of Special Projects for the Southwest District of Tau Beta Sigma.

Krystal has been a member of the Xi Chapter of Tau Beta Sigma for about four years and we feel, as a chapter, having a member like Krystal has significantly improved the quality of members, our image and our general chapter functions. This year Krystal served as Vice President of Membership in the Xi chapter and enforced a sense of positivity and love into our membership class. It was amazing to see her work in teaching the new members all of the material without it being overwhelming or too challenging. This year Krystal really reached out to the District officers for guidance and materials to help make more of an impact in the membership class. Along with her excellent work as our membership educator, Krystal has made a long-lasting impact in our chapter alone. She is full of guidance and always knows what to do in tricky situations. She is very knowledgeable in National and District regulations to help us keep on track with the rest of the chapters in the district. Krystal is also the one to always inspire members to look beyond just our chapter and experience district conventions and events. Without her planning and passion to Tau Beta Sigma events, we might not have had such a great turn out at this last years National Convention in Orlando, Florida, where we further improved our chapter functions and made connections across every district.

Along with her undeniable service to our Tau Beta Sigma chapter, Krystal is an excellent student having maintained an above average GPA in her time here at West Texas A&M. She has also been active in making an impact in our band program serving as Vice President to the WTAMU Band.

Without a doubt, I confidently recommend Krystal for the Tau Beta Sigma SWD council position. As a dedicated and passionate member of the Xi chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, I know that her abilities will fit right in the obligations of SWD Vice President of Special Projects.

Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] should you like to discuss Krystal’s qualifications and experience further. I’d be happy to expand on my recommendation.

Much Love in the Bond,

Samantha Carter

FIRST YEAR EXPERIENCE AND LEARNING COMMUNITIES

March 27, 2018

To Whom It May Concern, It is my pleasure to offer this letter of recommendation to you for Krystal Munoz as she runs for the office of Vice President of Special Projects for Tau Beta Sigma at the national level. I have been one of the university sponsors for the local Tau Beta Sigma Chapter at West Texas A&M University for the last two years. During that time frame, I have watched as Krystal worked with new member candidates for the Xi chapter. She is diligent and dedicated, not only to the process, but also to the organization itself. She is an excellent leader, will represent the organization on a professional level well, and will devote the time necessary to execute the duties of her office. As an initiated member of the Beta Chapter at Texas Tech, I can see many of the leadership characteristics in Krystal that I observed in those from Beta that went on to serve at the national level. She is approachable, open, and a pleasure to work with. Students like and respect her, looking to her for leadership and guidance. Krystal has maintained a current GPA of 3.31, while participating in various offices in the Xi chapter including Chapter Parliamentarian, Chapter President, Assistant Vice President, and as Vice President of Membership this year. Krystal doesn’t just hold the title of the office, she works in all projects taken on by Xi and provides an excellent example of sisterhood and dedication to the organization. I heartily recommend Krystal for this new adventure in her life’s journey and will be there to support her along the way.

March 27, 2018 Dear Committee Members: I am pleased to write this letter in strong support of Krystal Munoz’s application for national office. I have had the pleasure of watching Krystal grow as a student, musician, and person since we first met, when she was a first year music major at West Texas A&M University. Krystal Munoz is truly an outstanding young person. She has an extremely strong work ethic, is always striving to improve, and is a genuine pleasure to be around. She spent many hours practicing the details; the scales, 3rds, and arpeggios that helped her build fundamentals that are reliable and accurate. This is not fun or easy work, but Krystal realized the importance of detailed work and never complained. She always does what is asked of her because she realizes the importance of goals. Krystal is a young person who is totally dedicated to growing as much as possible from her studies. All of this hard work has provided her the opportunity to be a member of the two top performing groups at our school for her entire undergraduate degree, a truly outstanding accomplishment! Krystal is a real “people person” and other students gravitate toward her because of her extremely positive attitude, kindness, and sincerity. Her peers, and faculty, in the School of Music admire her. Krystal is friendly, outgoing and always willing to lend a helpful hand. Her potential for success in music is undeniable. She works had to improve and is an excellent role model. My confidence in Krystal Munoz is very strong. She is an absolutely outstanding musician, mentor and role model. I am pleased to give her my strongest possible recommendation. Thank you for your consideration, if I may provide further support of her application please contact me. Sincerely. March 16, 2018

To the Southwest District Council and Counselors of Tau Beta Sigma,

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter to support Krystal Danielle Muñoz to serve as

Southwest District Vice President for Special Projects for the 2018 - 2019 school year. Having

served in the district council and observing what this specific position has to handle, I can

think of few other individuals qualified to serve in this capacity.

I have known Krystal for a long time and have seen her accomplish many of her personal goals. She

has a passion for music in the Elementary field and has shown her talents by performing with the

West Texas A&M Symphonic Band for several years. Not only is Krystal an outstanding musician but

she has shown her true spirit of sisterhood in Tau Beta Sigma - Xi. Krystal served as the

Parliamentarian of the Xi chapter and later became the President of her chapter. This year she

served as the Vice President for Membership and guided twelve (12) members of the West Texas A&M

Band program to membership.

As for this year, Bands for Change has been a huge project. I strongly believe that Krystal can

take that to a whole new level. Her experiences as Xi’s Fundraising and Social committee chair

has pushed her to create new and fun projects for her own chapter.

Furthermore, Krystal has committed her time to attend three Southwest District Conventions. From

University of Arkansas to Oklahoma State University, I believe that she will continue the spirit

of sisterhood within Tau Beta Sigma - Southwest District Council and our district. She is a

strong, hardworking and energetic woman that will get the job done. Without a doubt, Krystal

Danielle Muñoz is the perfect sister for the position of Vice President for Special Projects.

If you have any further questions feel free to contact me,

To Whom It May Concern, It is my pleasure to recommend Krystal Munoz for the office of Vice President of Special Projects. I had the pleasure of being Krystal’s supervising teacher during her student teaching at Bivins Elementary. I have been able to witness her work ethic, talent, and love of both music and Tau Beta Sigma first hand. Krystal’s ambition is exhibited by her involvement in many activities including the West Texas A&M University Symphonic Band, Marching, Orchestra, and holding TBS offices of President, VP of Membership Education, Assistant VP, and Parliamentarian. She was also the recipient of the Garner Band and Orchestra Scholarship, and has spent time teaching middle school and high school sectionals and private lessons. I am impressed by Krystal’s level of responsibility and commitment to Tau Beta Sigma. She has attended several regional, district, and national conventions and workshops. Not only does she prove her passion for her service organization through continuing her TBS knowledge, she demonstrates her service-oriented mindset by setting a great example for sorority/fraternity sisters and brothers through her actions. This year, as Vice President of Membership Education, she was responsible for the education and mentorship of twelve new sorority members. Krystal always has encouraging words for her students and peers, a heart for helping others, and understands the value of honest communication. She is an incredibly determined, kind, and talented person, and I am confident that she will do great things in the future! Sincerely, Karen Takacs
