Introduction :-

The dosas undergo abnormalities due to indunlgence in unsuitablefood and activities and they, in turn, bring about abnormalities inthe dhatus (tissues) and produce diseases.

These abnormalities starting minutely develop insuccessive stagesto assume great proportions and become the disease.

The series of vikrta kriya (abnormal activities) successively

developing in different periods of kala (time) is known asKriyakala (periods or stages) of evolution of disease.

It is the narration, in sequential order of the abnormal changestaking place in the dosas, dusyas, agni, srotas; etc.

This knowledge is very helpful for both the diagnosis andtreatment of diseases.

Kriyakala is of two kind viz., a) Rtu kriyakala and b) Vyadhikriyakala.

a) Rtu kriyakala The equilibrium of the dosas is very unstable andis undergoing change constantly every day. These daily changes

happening in particular rtus(seasons) has been described as the threestages of the dosas as caya (mild increase ), prakopa (profoundincrease ) and prasama (decrease to normal).

As the cycle of changes in the Rtus, goes on naturally, so the cycleof changes in the dosas also are natural events.

Discussion

Chaya in samhati rupa isunderstandable in case of doshas like

kapha and pitta witch have visible or

traceable form (murtatva) how can be
